So you DO want a society full of a Asian male doctors.

Should college and medical school class not represent the demographics of society as a whole? You may think not, but I (and apparently courts and admission committees) disagree

Why stop at medical school classes? Shouldn’t we also make sure that the LA Lakers and Golden State Warriors starting lineup also represents the demographics of society as a whole? I mean, the average American spends a lot more time listening to savants like LeBron James than their doctor...

His judicial nominees are all far right-wing nutjobs. He also panders to the religious zealots.

Which judicial nominees are "far right-wing nutjobs"? Are you talking about the Supreme Court or US Courts of Appeals?

The Left also panders to zealots. They just happen to be zealots of other religions or causes. Pandering is the name of the game in politics. Trump's advocacy of border security and reclamation of trade power from China was "pandering" to moderates.

The NBA is remarkably transphobic when you think about it. How many transsexuals are in the NBA?

African Americans, however, account for 24 percent of those fatally shot and killed by the police despite being just 13 percent of the U.S. population. This means black Americans are over 2.5 times as likely as white Americans to be shot and killed by police officers. Facts, not pithy platitudes ...

You forgot to adjust for the fact that blacks commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime, including murders. Higher rates of violent crime and poverty within black communities are why blacks have more violent interactions with police. Young, black men are the biggest threat to young black men, not cops.

Since basketball keeps people alive and requires competency exams. Lol

Just like right wing white males are the biggest danger when one goes to Walmart, a music festival or a synagogue

To be honest, I don’t think that any race, ethnic group, religion, or political persuasion can claim a moral high ground when it comes to needless violence. Humans as a whole seem pretty good at killing each other.

Having said that, the total number of people ever killed at a Walmart, synagogues, or music festivals pales in comparison to what happens monthly in North St. Louis or South Chicago.

Says the guy who just singled out blacks a post ago. Lol.

Both demographic groups seem prove to violence in different areas

Not much to talk about. Trillion dollar annual deficits, sub 2% gdp growth. Worst manufacturing numbers domestically since 2009.

Highest hate crimes in years though. I'll give you that

Ummm, you do realize that a healthy economic growth rate is 2-3%, right?

Don’t get me wrong. I agree that our spending is out of control. However, the power of the purse resides primarily with the Congress and specifically the House. Could you tell me what Nancy is doing to reign in spending?

Hate crime numbers are BS, concocted by orgs that directly benefit from ostensible "hatred."

Don't care about GDP growth, but I agree with you that the deficits are irresponsible, and I didn't vote for those. Unfortunately, few other than Rand Paul are willing to do much about them, so we're going to careen off the cliff in the next decade or so and see what type of gimmicks the govt and Wall St. come up with to deal with the situation.

Regarding manufacturing: It's official. Manufacturing is getting crushed

"While the manufacturing sector as a whole has seen marked hiring since President Donald Trump’s oath of office, the jobs gains have largely plateaued..."

Not sure what the criticism here is - that he's been successful but not sufficiently successful for you to exchange your vagina hat for a MAGA hat?

Tell me again what Trump promised with the deficit busting tax cuts? Here's a hint: More than that

Fwiw Obama hit 5%+ quarterly in 2014 and didn't kill manufacturing

His SCOTUS nominees are certainly conservative, but far right nutjobs doesn't really fit the data so far. From 538:

I mean, they're conservative, but of course they are. A "Republican" appointed them.

There's a more compelling argument that RBG and Sotomayor are far left nutjobs.

Moreover, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh disagree with each other fairly often:

Now, if Amy Coney Barrett takes RBG's spot, whoa nelly, here we go.

What is the Council on Foreign Relations? It's Globalist think tank/strategy group that serves to undermine the sovereignty of countries in order to establish a global governing system. It is this GLOBALIST philosophy that Trump voters oppose.

Council on Foreign Relations - Conservapedia

Is Michael Bloomberg a Council member? Yep. Lots of other recognizable names on that list, too. But NOT Trump's.

Bloomberg is a media/financial globalist who does NOT have America's best interests in mind. He is the kind of swamp person that Trump voters oppose. And, IMO, you should, too.

Trump hasn't killed manufacturing. Over the course of his presidency, manufacturing numbers have steadily grown.

I like to occasionally remind myself that whatever accomplishments (positive and negative) achieved by Trump were done so with the equivalent of one hand tied behind his back with the Deep State coup against him - in particular, with the Russian collusion hoax that sane people knew all along (and CNN/MSNBC-viewers discovered several months ago) to be unadulterated bull****. And now it's Ukraine.

Pretty impressive.

Which right wing fake news site did you dig up from?

Trump has killed domestic manufacturing any way you look at it, and has again proven dems to be the true fiscal conservatives

Economics is the psychology of the market, and the President has a fascinating energizing quality about him. The boom-bust cycle has already been in prolonged boom mode well beyond most economists' expectations. We will never know how 2016-2024 would have shaken out if the anti-Trump movement hadn't been egged on by the media. My own sense is that those hypothetical eight years would have been a refreshing rebirth of national unity and stable self-dependence.

Globalism is a phenomenon driven by advances in communication, IT, and transportation. It is inevitable. We can either embrace it or become a nationalist backwater. (Well we actually can’t because it is inevitable.)

Take a good look at this, SDNers, because this will be rich.

I gleaned that graphic from the "right wing fake news" site...

One or two months' data don't negate the data from the last three years.

Again, my support for Trump doesn't stem from economic concerns, but you're either nakedly and immaturely partisan or so shortsighted as to miss the big-picture forest for the occasional down-month tree.

Yes, we're fighting back in the trade war, and there are short-term pains attendant to that process. In the long term, this will pressure the US to regain relative manufacturing independence.

If you look at tax revenues, you will see that they are at their highest despite the tax cut. Thus, the deficit is being “burst” by spending, not tax cuts. Raises taxes will worsen the deficit.

Economic growth under Obama averaged 2%. We are not going to see much above 2-3% with the looming debt bubble that has developed under the last 3 administrations.

The most responsible thing that America can do is gradually cut spending while keeping taxes consistent or targeted, modest increases that won’t slow economic growth. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening under any major party. We are fooked.

What do you mean by “relative manufacturing independence”?

If we shifted our military's raison d'etre to the protection of our own country (particularly on the borders), we could reduce spending substantially in that department without service members feeling the pinch. Medicare and SS age qualifications must rise drastically. Simplify the tax code. And for the love of everything good in this country, no M4A or 40-trillion-dollar "Green New Deal" schemes.

There will always be international trade, and that's good. But when US manufacturers can't compete with China's factories (for clothing, metalworks, construction materials, etc.) because operational and material costs would be prohibitive to buyers, it puts the US in an unacceptably precarious position, and the trend only snowballs into a mass exodus of manufacturing jobs to developing countries for cheaper production. It's become a national security issue. For a country as large and resource-rich as ours, international trade should generally be a bonus - not a necessity.

It’s so refreshing that these erudite (not ) trade policies are working out so well... perhaps we can fissure the entire grain and farmers sector -/https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/2168244/chinas-trade-surplus-us-hits-record-high-us34-billion

I’m all for this except they should increase Medicare anesthesia fees😉

I agree manufacturing capacity is a national security issue just like food security. But that ship has sailed. I don’t know how we can restore manufacturing in many industries.

There’s a documentary on Netflix called “American Factory” that sheds some light on the issue. It’s about a Chinese built and operated auto glass factory in Ohio and it’s made by Obama’s production company. What I got from it was that Chinese factory workers are culturally conditioned to accept working conditions that are unacceptable to most Americans. High production pressure, 2 days off per month, dormitory living, lower pay, lower safety standards, etc. And Chinese factory owners take advantage of that.

Bolded text is a reflection of the approach known as "managed decline." It's something against which people like Trump, Bannon, etc. bristle, and I'd like to support people with enough vision to at least try to reclaim the manufacturing power America once had.

But how? With protectionist trade policies or “cultural re-education” of the average American worker? How do you compete with an overseas manufacturer who has access to a very disciplined workforce for $5/hr?

Global competition but also advancements and developments in technology that lend to exponentially greater efficiency and productive are at the heart of our current manufacturing malaise.

Truly amazing how an unelected group of bureaucrats are trying to subvert the elected president.

If that's not the definition of deep state...

Imagine you’ve been expertly, professionally practicing anesthesiology for the last 20years, developing your relationships and reputation. Then your group is taken over by new management who fires the best doctors in your group because they won’t go along with the new boss’ back room deals with administration and says oxygenation and replacing blood loss are not important.

Ok so you like giving free passes to monstrous deficits and business growth/manufacturing slowdowns. Got it.

Your last paragraph isn't really based in reality either, rather MAGA Kool aid

Truly amazing how a president works for the benefit of Russia with everything he does, to the point of withholding aid to a foreign power to interfere in our elections

Protectionism.

Consumers have been benefiting from the importation of cheap labor and exportation of production for decades. This has distorted all sorts of markets, from food to housing to clothing. A correction is due; just as corrections in America's subsidization of other countries' defense and pollution regulations are due. These are aspects of the Trump presidency that I like.

It's ironic you mention blood loss. Trump is like a fresh doc who say transfuse if Hgb < 7, and the deep state guys are the crusty surgeons who transfuse Hgb > 10, to hell with the TRALI.

AAPL became a trillion dollar company off the Chinese. The average American has benefitted immensely from the relationship overall. We send them T-bills, they send us finished products. They do all of the dirty manufacturing for us.

Sounds like a win, win to me.

Of course Trump thrives on lies and conspiracy theories, so I guess there is that

Who would be so cruel and ungrateful to deport an honorably-discharged veteran?
The same dingus that stole from veterans and was ordered by the court to pay a $2 million fine

I expect the deplorables to give him a free pass on all that though

It’s funny that we almost never see TRALI since we started resuscitating with whole blood and whole blood equivalents instead of crystalloids. It’s made a huge difference in our trauma patients. I’m convinced a lot of TRALI seen in the past was actually caused by overzealous crystalloid administration in a misguided effort to delay transfusion until some magic transfusion threshold. Maybe a topic for another thread.

I think you forgot to mention the background of Ukraine being an extraordinarily corrupt country.

Also, my head is spinning a bit from trying to keep up with the latest talking points about Trump. Is he a servile Russian puppet, demented and psychiatrically unstable, or a cunning villain with aims to enrich himself at any cost?

Talking points, that's what your side uses. We try to stick to "facts"
