I am withdrawing from the semester in which I am currently enrolled due to medical issues of the psychological sort. How will this impact my admissions process into medical school? Nowhere does it list that my withdrawal was medical. I am returning in the summer and following fall to make up the classes I missed.

Do you mean that you're taking a leave of absence? Or just withdrawing from all classes?

It shouldn't be a big deal if you take a leave of absence, deal with the issue, and then get right back up on that horse. Be a mature student who deals with a problem and moves on with life and education. I don't think you'll need to explain this issue in detail. "I took a leave of absence to deal with a medical issue and returned after it was resolved" should suffice.

What exactly is a leave of absence? By withdrawal, I mean dropping all classes and leaving the college campus to transfer back home and get better. Are you certain this will not impact me negatively if I keep mum about it?

I would advise talking to someone in administration (academic affairs office or whatever your school calls it) and explaining the situation. A leave of absence is basically when your school or employer allows you to leave for some period of time without penalty.
