Working Two jobs with two different W2s? Thoughts

What are your thoughts on this. Not exactly locums per se. 0.5 FTE with 1 job and 0.5 FTE with another. Job. Guaranteed shifts vs Locums where youre not always guaranteed.. Is this frowned upon? Assuming there is no restricted covenant? Can you potentially get in trouble>

Why would you get in trouble?

It is probably inefficient compared to a 1099 since the entire point of a W2 is to get benefits but instead of getting FT level benefits you get 2 PT level benefits that can't be combined.

Of course you wont get in trouble, unless you blow your money on egregious things, or if there's a conflict of interest. For instance, if you're doing chart review for one company, and reviewing charts from your other place of employment, etc etc.

Also some places like to 'own' your license. So when they contract you, they may stipulate that you're not allowed to use your medical license in any other capacity. This isn't very common, but the Third Reich of Kaiser Permanente comes to mind.

Barring all of the above, no you won't get in trouble. I have 4 jobs. 2 W2s, 2 1099s. Golf and guitars are expensive.

I know that places that put stipulations will fire you if they find out you work elsewhere. How do they ever find out about the other job unless you or someone else tell them?

It can easily be discovered, usually via billing. For instance, if you bill for something at one job, then insurance companies or adjustors come after you at the other job (via postal mail, phone calls, etc).

Oh and of course google. Google you name sometime. Most of your affiliations should pop up.

If you place of work has such stipulations and you like the job, don't mess with it. But it better be a pretty good job to have such stipulations!
