Well as i don't think it's necessary to list these interviewers by name, it's up to people to do so.
As far as embarrassment, people have called interviewers out specifically in other threads.

It's not as if the schools aren't hearing back from interviewees with post-interview feedbacks.
This can be useful for the applicants and maybe help those in binds to get some useful advice.

So how would you describe an applicant who has invested the time and money to apply to medical schools to be met by a totally disrespectful interviewer? Who doesn't give them a fair chance? It DOES happen. Go read school specific forums just over the last year. It happens quite often.

I also read on the VCU forum about "Dr. G" who is notorious for causing conflict with students. She even told a veteran that serving your country is not really honorable.

This forum should be used for seriousness and also some laughs.

People who are going to interview at schools should be given an HONEST heads up of what to expect, really. If your interview group has 12 people, and there is that "one" interviewer. You could be THAT person sitting across this person. Having a heads up on other peoples experience can only benefit you.

I have been told about terrible interviewers and if you read around, people speak about these individuals vocally on school specific discussions.

I also read on the VCU forum about "Dr. G" who is notorious for causing conflict with students. She even told a veteran that servinig your country is not really honorable.

This forum should be used for seriousness and also some laughs.

People who are going to interview at schools should be given an HONEST heads up of what to expect, really. If your interview group has 12 people, and there is that "one" interviewer. You could be THAT person sitting across this person and having a heads up on other peoples experience can only benefit you.

Bannie, honestly, as mentioned by myself and others, grow up or get out.
This can be a great thread but when people like you wanna troll around it does no one good. I bet if you run into a bat sh** crazy interviewer you wouldn't hesitate to post. So in the meantime...CHILL.

My interview at Vanderbilt with Dr. R (pediatric internist; trained at Rutgers)

It was a one-on-one interview. She rescheduled me to a later time. When I came in, she had not really even read my file. She repeatedly asked me "anything else for me" after only a few minutes of talking. She was not interested to learn much about me at all. Also, she asked me to list all my activities and their duration before I left. It was a terrible interview and she was very uninviting.

I'm waitlisted. It's the only school where I have been.

NOTE: If you get her for your Vandy interview, try your best to reschedule and get someone else. If not, be prepared for an unfriendly encounter.

Wow that totally blows. Did you speak with admissions about your issue? Maybe talk to the admissions scheduling secretary about her thoughts/opinion? Some schools offer re-visits and will let you interview all over again with different faculty. I'd look into it to be honest.

I haven't. In the Vandy thread, I've actually learned that at least a couple other interviewees have had her and had the same experience. Fortunately, I have been accepted to other great schools so I'm not willing to fly back out to Nashville and take the time to interview again. It's unfortunate and it's just the luck of the draw. Maybe people see this thread and have a heads up! As was the intent, I assume...

I interviewed at Penn State Oct. 19 with a Surgeon "Dr. S"

Totally didn't give me the time or day and proceeded to check his e-mail and take a personal phone call for 5 minutes. I was in there actually for less than 20 minutes. He was completely disrespectful and didn't even read over my application. His questions were all the toughies such as "Why medicine" "What speciality" then proceeded to lecture about how going into emergency would be the biggest mistake of my life. Total pompous jerk. A student after me also got him and I feel sorry for him.

Oh and I am on waitlist at this school. Better than rejected, but I felt like I could have done more given the right circumstances.

Are you serious? Way to make assumptions about people you don't know. Did it come across your mind that some students no longer feel obligated to a school and want to speak freely about a terrible interview they had? This is a forum and people can say what they want. It's not a thread for defamatory purposes.

As several people mentioned above, this thread can be useful and we don't appreciate people on your level trolling around and acting like a 3 year old.

Not exactly an interview but...

..after my first (unsuccessful) application cycle I met with the dean of med school admissions (at the ivy league university in the big apple) where I did my undergrad. He proceeded to pull out my file and for 45 minutes went through point by point and explained to me why I was unfit for medicine and his institution. He also emphasized that there was nothing I could do to improve my application for future cycles. I'm surprised that I kept it together until I got back to my car, where I burst into tears. (I've heard similar stories from others as well)

I didn't reapply there, but on my next cycle got into my 3 top choice programs, and just received a dean's award for outstanding academic achievement during my MS1 year.

Take that Mr. fancy pants ivy league dean.

He proceeded to pull out my file and for 45 minutes went through point by point and explained to me why I was unfit for medicine and his institution. He also emphasized that there was nothing I could do to improve my application for future cycles. I'm surprised that I kept it together until I got back to my car, where I burst into tears. (I've heard similar stories from others as well)

I didn't reapply there, but on my next cycle got into my 3 top choice programs, and just received a dean's award for outstanding academic achievement during my MS1 year.

Take that Mr. fancy pants ivy league dean.

lol, wow! I'm sorry that someone was like that to you. My guess is you might have had a weak Committee Letter from Columbia, if that's what your dean was saying! That totally sucks. I'm happy you got in!

Had a Phd interviewer that straight off the bat was like, “sit down”.
Then busts out with this before I can even say a word.
“Why are you trying to get into med school with your degree (non science)?
“It might be better to try for PA school or nurse practitioner”.
“Have you even taken a general chemistry course?”

I was like, um…yeah, the pre-requisites for medical school as well as biochem, blah blah blah.

Then he starts accusing me of lying on my application. He’s like “These numbers aren’t right, you would have had to work 80+ hours a week to get all these shadowing hours in.” Apparently he can’t read dates or something, because I haven’t to this day figured out what the hell he was adding up. He couldn’t explain it to me but just kept saying, it was wrong. I told him I had all the doctors signatures and verification. At this point I’m starting to just get mad.

Then he starts drilling me because apparently he didn’t think people with non science majors should go to med school. He was like do you even know what an antibiotic is? Whats a broad spectrum antibiotic? Do you know the difference between gram + and gram - ? “What is the difference between a recessive and a dominant trait?” Now I’m starting to think I’m getting punked or something and the whole thing starts to be kind of funny to me. Which is where I went wrong, because I started to get a little sarcastic (I’m that way anyway). My undergrad research was on the pathogenesis of lung injury in Pseudomonas Aeruginosa infections among CF patients. It was pretty insulting.

Then he goes off on cystic fibrosis. He starts asking what happens in cystic fibrosis and why. I’m explaining the pathogenesis of the disease and he’s like, “No, I mean what happens in the body?” Then he asks what specific gene mutation causes CF? By this time I’m like, “I have no idea”. I said that’s why I’m applying to medical school. lol

Then he saw that my parents were missionaries in the Ukraine when I was a kid. He sits back, folds his arms and start shooting:
“Name all the countries that border the Ukraine.”
I started by saying Russia and he goes, “Everyone knows Russia, what else?”
“What is the #1 health problem in the Ukraine today?” By the way I was like 12 years old last time I was there. I’m nearly done by this point and just say, “alcoholism?”
He’s not amused and says, “No, TB!” “It was in a very influential journal, everyone should have seen it.”

Then he busts out with, “Tell me about your research.” As I’m doing it he interrupts.
“What are A549 cells, do you know?” I say, lung epithelial cells and he just says “nope” and shakes his head. I’m confused if I’m supposed to argue with him or what. He says, “They are cancer cells.” I‘m like “well yeah obviously! We use them because they grow fast and are hardy, but they are lung epithelial cancer cells.” He goes, “well I guess they are epithelial cells from the lungs.” lol jackass!

Then he changes tones and shows me this page of questions he is supposed to ask and was like “I can ask you all of these but I think I can judge them from your file”. “I could just give you this page, but I don’t think they are important.” Like that was some kind of pep talk or something.

I’m just ready to get out by this time, I shake his hand and get up and leave. Funny thing was I wasn’t even that flustered, I was just amazed and shocked. I still laugh to this day when I think about it.

This was at a Texas school, so I haven't heard anything from them just yet. Next couple of days hopefully.

What an unreal experience. It would have been amazing to have been there! Hahaha, at this point, if someone acted like that to me, I would insult him and leave. What a total jerk.

When I went on an interview (place to remain anonymous because I don't want to stir anything up) a couple of interviews ago here is how my first interview of the day went:

(Interviewer comes into the room and sits down in his designated seat)
Me: Hi, my name is TaylorMDhopeful.
Interviewer: ((Blank stare).....awkwardness of no introduction by himself. Had to read hospital ID on jacket for name). Ok, first things first
Me: Yes?
Interviewer: Do you believe in aliens?
Me: (wth?) Umm.. Sure, why not. I believe that if there is a suitable environment to sustain life on this planet, why couldn't there be a similar situation somewhere out there in space that can sustain a life form.
Interviewer: Good, my thoughts exactly
(yada yada yada, a few questions about my motivations, why this school..)
Interviewer: So, what can we talk about? Ohh, I got it...what type of music do you like?
Me: I like a mix of things, hip hop, rap, rnb, pop, etc. What type of music do you like?
Interviewer: Anything that will allow me to touch a woman
Me: (laugh...) You are funny Dr. T
Interviewer: (Stern face)
Me: (oh...he was serious)
Interviewer: So how do you feel about legalizing marijuana?
Me: (yada, yada yada about beer and cigarettes and the dangers of stuff like that)
Interviewer: How about gun control?
Me: (yada about rights and possession of arms, protection)
Interviewer: No, crazy people want guns...Are you crazy?
Me: No, not at all.
Interviewer: Ok, good. Well if you don't have anymore questions for me then I think that will be all.

At a recent interview, I made a semi-joke about how I was a big nerd in high school (like I'm not now) which she didn't find funny at all.

Then when I was talking about growing up poor and how that's affected me, the lady freaking laughed at me.

I wanted to kick the witch. I really don't know what was wrong with this lady. Even thinking about it now ticks me off.

Haha, I said that it certainly demonstrated Michael Bay's capabilities/ambitions as a director, and while purists and critics may decry the extent to which he went overboard with the special effects, it still made for an enjoyable movie for people of all ages, and I appreciated it for that as well as for its nostalgic value. My interviewer nodded and said that he didn't like the crude humor in the movie, but was a fan of this past summer's Star Trek and Terminator films. Like I said, one of the coolest interviewers ever.

When I went on an interview (place to remain anonymous because I don't want to stir anything up) a couple of interviews ago here is how my first interview of the day went:

(Interviewer comes into the room and sits down in his designated seat)
Me: Hi, my name is TaylorMDhopeful.
Interviewer: ((Blank stare).....awkwardness of no introduction by himself. Had to read hospital ID on jacket for name). Ok, first things first
Me: Yes?
Interviewer: Do you believe in aliens?
Me: (wth?) Umm.. Sure, why not. I believe that if there is a suitable environment to sustain life on this planet, why couldn't there be a similar situation somewhere out there in space that can sustain a life form.
Interviewer: Good, my thoughts exactly
(yada yada yada, a few questions about my motivations, why this school..)
Interviewer: So, what can we talk about? Ohh, I got it...what type of music do you like?
Me: I like a mix of things, hip hop, rap, rnb, pop, etc. What type of music do you like?
Interviewer: Anything that will allow me to touch a woman
Me: (laugh...) You are funny Dr. T
Interviewer: (Stern face)
Me: (oh...he was serious)
Interviewer: So how do you feel about legalizing marijuana?
Me: (yada, yada yada about beer and cigarettes and the dangers of stuff like that)
Interviewer: How about gun control?
Me: (yada about rights and possession of arms, protection)
Interviewer: No, crazy people want guns...Are you crazy?
Me: No, not at all.
Interviewer: Ok, good. Well if you don't have anymore questions for me then I think that will be all.
Me: Ok Dr. T. It was a pleasure to meet you. Thank you again. (wth?)

At a recent interview, I made a semi-joke about how I was a big nerd in high school (like I'm not now) which she didn't find funny at all.

Then when I was talking about growing up poor and how that's affected me, the lady freaking laughed at me.

I wanted to kick the witch. I really don't know what was wrong with this lady. Even thinking about it now ticks me off.

that's pretty terrible. did you at least give her a scathing (anonymous) review?

If you said that in your interview even remotely word for word I give you props. I would've added The Hangover to the list of good movies.
