im a biology major thinking to get a minor in chemistry since i only need one course to get a minor. and as premeds and science major you take so much god damn chemistry courses ( as some might already know) will this give me an edge in my application? thanks for your feedback

Maybe, but probably no more of an edge than simply helping an admissions person remember that you have a lot of chemistry as well.

My school's Pre-med curriculum put us only 1 class short of a chemistry minor as well, so I went for it so at least I felt like I got something on paper for taking all those #^#% chemistrys 🙂

My school also needs just one more course for a chem minor but I decided to minor in something non-science related (sociology) so it would help make me a more rounded individual. If you can, try to minor in something like philosophy, music, or something you are interested in, other than science. I think that would make a bigger impact then just taking one course in chemistry.

Hey NJDO, I saw your mdapps profile, and I was wondering if you were you the guy that had to switch your interview at DMU because u knew the student interviewer....if you are I was the guy you switched with...lol

I can't speak for other schools, but I know at mine they don't even list your minor on your diploma. I have friends that for some reason or another choose to have 10 minors and when they got out of school they found out how little companies cared. I don't want to say a minor is worthless, but I believe it is only useful if you are actually gaining something from the extra classes you are taking. Of course if it boosts your GPA...👍 👍 👍

yep! i was that guy...looks like both interview panels ended up being OK. Are you headed to DMU for sure?

DMU is definitely my top DO choice (withdrew all other apps), and I actually withdrew from a bunch of MD schools just because I felt comfortable at DMU, I am still waiting on 4 MD schools (UIC, Loyola, Rush, WF) and if i get interviews I will decide which will fit best for me....
