Hi i'm new to the forum and I was wondering how I am doing and if there are things that I should plan out.
I'm a junior standing at the moment and soon to be senior, but i'm staying one more year in school (5 years) because of GEs and my psychobiology major has a lot of prereq's and upperdiv majors that I need to complete.
I go to ucla as an undergrad:
My lower division science has been pretty much all B's... its really hard to get B+ or higher. I've screwed up my freshman year on some econ classes, and electives, writing. So my science and overall GPA is 3.0 with some elective A's, did well in psych and intro to psychobiology to make up for C's in those unimportant classes.
I really want to go to SCCO because i like the north OC area, have a church i want to go there, and good distance from my parents (not too far and not too close).
their avg gpa is 3.3 or so I was wondering is 3.0 too low and would i have to have a really high 350+ score on OAT to be competitive? or would above 300 be good? not a good test taker especially in verbal section.
I also looked at the prereq and it says one quarter of calc but i took like 3 quarters, one of my calc quarter was good, the other two weren't so good because they are higher level calculus (engineering calculus)
It seems like i'm doing more then i need to, but oh well i just want to get that bachelor in psychobio.
did you take OAT junior year or senior year? when did you start shadowing an optometrist? i'm thinking about this summer with someone who had gone to SCCO who has a privately owned store in koreatown over the weekends.
I just wanted to know how i am doing because i'm kinda nervous about how competitive i would be considering so many get 3.3+ gpa who got into optometry school.
Would like some advise as to how to plan the next 2 years as to application, OAT, shadowing, etc. Thanks for your time.
