When a school asks for two letters of reference from a teaching professor, and and one from a dentist, can I send more than 3 references to the school?

If so, would they even look at extra reference letters in their hand?

Thanks!

I don't see why not. The health professions advisory committee at my school allows us to submit letters for our file in addition to their committee evaluation. I have 5 including the committee letter.

Some do some do not.

oh okay good, so dental adcoms would "accept" as many letters I sent but they would not necessary look at them right?

I heard 5 is fine, but 6 starts to get ridiculous in some ADCOMs eyes. One ADCOM person even told me if they get too many, they will just read the first few and skip the rest...but that most schools don't do that...they read all of them. Just what two different committee people told me on different days on different tours.

Which schools said they don't look at them all? I have 6...4 science profs, one dentist, and one from a volunteering organization i participate in....

I have 6 letters of rec, 2 from my grad school professors and mentors, 1 from a dentist and 3 from the PIs I work for now in a lab I have been in for 1.5 yrs. I contacted quite a few of the dental schools and each one said "6 is an appropriate number."
