I've missed all the "Hey guys- school sucks" posts that have been absent in this forum most of the summer. Misery doesn't just like company- it loves a whole party. To sum it up. Here are two books (Big Robbins and Cecil's) read these and pay us $40,000. Oh and we will have unreasonable quizzes specifically designed to trick you. Have fun.
Sorry, had to vent in a semi-anonymous environment.
It's no secret that you're paying for the piece of paper you get at the end, not the actual knowledge and teaching
medical school is paying tens of thousands of dollars per year to have a group of people administer poorly written tests to you and to facilitate horribly inefficient, and sometimes irrelevant, small group discussions
Yeah, it was real tough waking up whenever I wanted, reading the New York Times over a 3-course breakfast with coffee, putting in a handful of hours reading about interesting diseases, and spending the night going out and hanging out over a few beers.
I almost never resort to sarcasm, but reading such blasphemy strips me of any higher wit. Ingrates.

maybe its the whole mandatory attendance thing going on here but things don't seem that easy. 8-10 hours spent in class and then studying afterwards for weekly exams doesn't leave much time for 3 course breakfast, reading the times, and hitting up the bars.maybe its the whole mandatory attendance thing going on here but things don't seem that easy. 8-10 hours spent in class and then studying afterwards for weekly exams doesn't leave much time for 3 course breakfast, reading the times, and hitting up the bars.
Sure the material is interesting, but man am I tired right now.
10hr daily mandatory lectures?
Well at least we aren't working minimum wage jobs for Walmart.
Instead we're paying several thousands for 4 years to get a minimum wage job as a resident at a hospital.

Wah wah!
Some of the radiology residents work 35 hour weeks, for 50k, come on that's not bad. Of course we all can't be radiologists, but residency is only a means the the $$$.

nahh.. 3rd and 4th years claim that it's much more interesting but just a lot of volumeMS2 is alright so far. I feel like I'm starting to actually learn useful knowledge, but I could be full of it
love this quotemedical school is paying tens of thousands of dollars per year to have a group of people administer poorly written tests to you and to facilitate horribly inefficient, and sometimes irrelevant, small group discussions
Still rather have that than work at walmart.
what $$$
Its been a couple of weeks max and you already think it sucks?
I am slightly overwhelmed right now. We (myself and the group of people I work with) all did very well first year, but after 1.5 weeks of MSII I can't seem to get in a groove as far as studying goes. I have been reviewing the material non-stop since day 1 but the "knowledge gained" seems much less per amount of time spent studying. I'm not really sure but something seems different....and I don't like it. The fact that all the profs are new to us doesn't help either since it is impossible to predict "important" test points vs. minute details that a not testable.

3 weeks in, and MS 2 sucks infinitely more than MS1.
M1 was easy compared to this. 🙂
I don't know WTF schools you guys go to but I'm about 2 weeks in and MS2 is waaaaaaaaaay better than MS1 was for me. I'm sure it'll become more stressful come boards time but I'm thoroughly enjoying learning this material compared to the boring crap that was thrown all over MS1.

why aren't you at Walmart?
Anybody else go to systems-based school?
I do, and in our last trimester last year, we covered cardio, renal, and pulm. So we're pretty much used to systems format and right now we're doing GI.
So far, I love it. I keep looking back to how I was last year around this time - scared, nervous, stressed, overwhelmed, etc. And this year I feel more confident and prepared to deal with whatever is heading my way. Of course, studying for a boards is a different ball game. As far as classes go though, I'm definitely less intimidated than I was last year.
I don't like their uniforms. I much prefer a baggy white coat. I thought about applying to the photo processing department only to learn they switched to all digital processing and don't wear lab coats anymore. C'este la vie.
