Writing intensive courses?

Does anyone know if Literature classes are generally counted as "writing intensive courses" and viewed so by medical schools? If not My other 2 options are 'creative writing' and 'rhetoric and writing' courses; I know that of the schools that require 1 year of english, some specifically want writing intensive courses but I prefer literature much more and am much better at that.
