You know how some schools tell you that you can submit an optional writing sample? What kind of thing are they looking for? I've been out of school for a few years and I don't have any papers left (hard drive crash) from college. I also haven't really written anything since I graduated.

I think I could probably whip up a writing sample of some sort pretty quickly, but what is it supposed to be about? Do they care? Should it be scientific? Psycholgy-related? Help!

Depending on the way the writing sample request was worded, I submitted one of three things: an assessment report (with identifying information stripped, of course), a paper i had published that i was second author on, or a scholastic paper of the lit review variety.

Some of the schools I am applying to request the same thing. I'm gonna send in my thesis. I'd pick a paper that you would consider your best written work, and that involves research.
