After essentially deciding it was all over (you can read my last posts to see how down I was) I called Friday morning ready to hear bad news....only to find out they had accepted me only minutes before my phone call!!!

After all that agonizing, it's still been hard to let go of my sunny, beautiful state school....but it's Yale, and I am syked to see your beautiful faces very soon....I actually flew out to New Haven and just got back today, and while sitting in Silverman's office I kept thinking about UCLAchris, LRMed, CCrazie, and some of the regulars on this list - I'm seriously hoping that you all hear news soon - I want you all in my class!

Congrats Mirla!!!

WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!

Congrats Mirla!!! 🙂)

Congrats Mirla! Glad to hear you made it. Unfortunately I won't be your classmate next year as tomorrow I'll be dropping the waiting list. I gave up hope last time I called and was told to lower my expectations. I drove to charlottesville, Va yesterday morning to look at some townhouses there and I decided that if I really liked one, I would get it and drop Yale. I did find one I liked, I haggled on the price, and now it's mine! So tomorrow I have to call Silverman and drop the list. I would have loved to go to Yale but I never thought the wait would be this long and slow. My situation is a little more complex than most people waiting because I'm getting married next weekend and I have my (soon to be) wife to think of and she has to find a job and we want somewhere to move when we get back from the honeymoon. When I accepted the waiting list, I set a mental date of june 15th for myself, and hearing the dreaded "call back in two weeks" on june 18th I figured it would never end. I'll probably always wonder if I would have gotten in, but UVa is a great school, the town is awesome, and the weather is great. Good luck to the rest of you still waiting. One less person to stop you now. Congrats again Mirla.

Hi Everyone,

I posted a while ago, and I too was accepted off of the "high" second tier about a week and a half ago. Yale's been my first choice for such a long time and I'm ecstatic about going.

I hope some of you will also be my classmates next year!

Best of luck!

awww thanks for the posts you guys. I couldn't have made it through this process without all of you!

ccCrazie, congratulations on your marriage! what a wonderful occasion. I'm really, really sorry to hear that you won't be at Yale (you've been such a trooper with the waitlist), but UVA is a fantastic school (the resident in the lab I worked for went there and LOVED it) and I really hope you'll be happy. Good luck to you with everything.

I'm still cheering the rest of you on...it ain't over til it's over....keep us posted...

Hey guys,

I called today and officially withdrew from the waiting list. Not easy, but I think it was the right decision. When I talked to Silverman it didn't sound like the odds were good anyway. As of today, they've accepted 28 fewer people off the waiting list than last year. HUGE turnaround and they don't know what to attribute it to. He said that the deadline for deferring is june 30th so usually they get quite a few between the 20th and 30th, but as of today they have received ZERO requests. Kinda made me think that my odds weren't so good anyway. I hope a few more of you end up making it off the list though. If not though, I'm sure you all got into great schools. I'm sure I'll still be checking this thread but it looks like I won't be able to provide any more info. I'll keep cheering you all on though.

Thanks for the kind words mirla. Good luck to you at Yale.

I personally know people who deferred from yale, so Silverman lied if he said ZERO people deferred this year.

Essentially, you rejected Yale today. So that Yale could reject you, Silverman wanted to make you think you would have been rejected anyway, so it would seem like it was useless to withdraw. That's why he gave you that bullsh&t.

Does anyone know a non-URM, non-Jewish person who was accepted? I'm Jewish, but I have observed that all caucasians accepted to Yale are Jewish - it's really an odd observation, but I don't know if it's only the people I personally know or actually widespread.

premed2003,

maybe you're right, but I might have misquoted him. Maybe when he said that zero people deferred he was referring to the period between the 20th and 30th when they were expecting most of them to occur. I don't get the impression that they wanted to reject me because Silverman was extremely nice to me throughout the entire admissions process and I felt like he was always honest with me.

As far as your theory, I'm a white male catholic. Of course I didnt' get in though. Make what you will of it. Good luck to you.

Umm...yeah, me and about 50 other kids 🙄

It's not 50, that's for sure. But you're MSTP. I'm talking about MDs

Wow, i just read at www.yaledailynews.com that our dean... dean kessler will be moving to UCSF! so we're gonna have an temp-dean next year. thoughts? how long does it usually take to find a new dean?

yeah, this makes me sad for yale. he was a great guy who did a ton for the school. of course, i'm sure his replacement will be equally great, but ucsf is definitely lucky to have him.

actually, i hear most of the profs wont miss him, he was never around. The new dean, at least temp, Dr. Spencer, is a great guy. His daughters went to Yale with me and Fava, and he rides motorcycles, besides being a worldclass neurosurgeon.

oh really??? i didn't realize it was THAT dr. spencer. wow. ok, well have fun. i had the chance to interact with dean kessler a couple times, and he always seemed really nice, smart and accessible, but who knows. this is the 1st time i've ever heard anything "bad" about him.

but wow. THAT dr. spencer, wexy? that's craziness.

hi fava. i don't mean to ask such dumb questions... but i just don't know anything about dr. spencer or whatever.... so, why craziness? in a good or bad way?

also how long does it usually take to find a permanent dean?

thanks 🙂

hey kreno
no no no!!! that's not dumb at all. sorry, my bad. i just said it was "craziness" because wexy and i just graduated with his twin daughters, and i hadn't realized it was the same "spencer." from what i hear (which admittedly, isn't that much), he seems like a really smart, experienced, capable guy. (wexy knows the spencers much better, and i'm sure she'd be happy to tell you guys more.) i'd imagine that it'll prob take 1 or 2 years to find a permanent dean, but that's just a guess.
ok, so that's about it. sorry for any confusion!

here's an article with a little more background on dr. spencer: http://www.yale.edu/opa/v31.n32/story2.html

has there been any movement in the last month? I already withdrew but I'm wondering if anyone's patience has paid off. I hope a few more of you got off the list.
