My parents came from Greece when they were teenagers. My father went straight into the restaurant business and my mother finished high school and became a cosmotoligist....My parents may not have the highest education available but they were both successful in their perspective fields. I think they just want to know for statistical value of matriculants...I hope :idea:

My mom went to a technical high school for business and went to work for a law firm for 30 years. My dad finished his associate's and took a job as a police officer. Then, 20 years later, he got his bachelor's and went to law school. Now, he's an immigration lawyer in Northern Cuba (Miami).

First person in my entire extended family to ever go to college.

Needless to say, they were ecstatic I got my 4 year degree. Med school was just kinda a perk 😉

Mom: BSW in Social Work
Dad: Masters in Criminology (but he did it part time, in the evenings, one class at a time while working a full-time and a part-time job... he sets the example for me when I think about how hard I'm working).

Mom: BS Math, MA Counseling and EdD (doctorate of education)
Dad: ME (mechanical engineering bachelor) and MD

My mom comes from an affluent family with MANY doctors, lawyers and engineers and generations of college grads.

My dad was from a small farming town (population: 200) who was the first to go to college from his family and didn't stop until he had his MD.

Most of you probably don't care, but I am glad (for selfish reasons) that the social disparity didn't keep them apart.

Father=Ph.D
Mohter=Ph.D and MD

Mother: B.A in Hotel Management
Father: High School

It's worth noting that our parents generation did not need to go to college to get secure, well-paying jobs.

Mom = MS in mathematics education and theory

it's funny how ohio state asks for your grandparents level of education - finally, a chance for me to look disadvantaged, since none of them completed grade school.

don't feel bad about that at all! Look at you! you're blazing a new trail for your family. My parents both have college degrees (BA in Education and BS in Bio) but hardly anyone else has finished high school, let alone gone to college in my whole family (woo second generation americans!)

When i decided to go to an Ivy league undergrad and now apply to med school my dad calls me "an astronaut" because for my family it's like they're blasting off into space--nobody's been there before.

be proud of it!~

Mother: MS in Economics, now a CPA
Father: PhD in Physics, now a EE

Mom's a high school bio teacher (masters in molecular bio), Dad's an aerospace engineer (two masters, one in aerospace and the other in mechanical)

Mama- high school grad
Pops- barely high school grad (took him 7 years!!)

I am also a first generation college grad! I think it says a lot for those of us that have accomplished so much already, without having necessarily all the perks that the kids of doctors and what not have had! I am not ashamed of this at all, it gives me an appreciation for what I have.

Mom-MS Pharmacy (Before PharmD was the result, it was an option back then)
Dad- No bachelors, MD, MBA

that must be weird having your dad/mom a PhD..I am kind of used to be smarter than my parents, haha.
