I mean, I'm sure that it wouldn't hurt, and would probably even help. But worth $800 and the summer before vet school...?
That was my main thing, I'm not keen on paying $800 for an ungraded 10 day course. Plus they weren't super descriptive about it so it very well may be just some intro stuff (they mentioned basic terminology and dissection techniques) that I already know.I mean, I'm sure that it wouldn't hurt, and would probably even help. I wish I was. My first reaction when i saw the email was "uhhhhh no" but then people on the facebook page, including people in the class above us, were talking about it and recommending it and i got insecure
Not worth it!! You'll be fine without it. Think of all the classes before you that passed anatomy without the class. Enjoy your last summer and save your money.UTK is offering an anatomy prep course for the first time this year and it seems like it could be a good idea to take it but... it's $800.
Just take free classes about sharks instead
Life lesson #964: with each year of your life that goes by, the measure of how much of a pain in the a-- it is to deal with your own medical records increases exponentially. You get extra bonus points if, like me, you were lucky enough to be born in a country that routinely gave the useless tuberculosis vaccine that results in a false positive on the Mantoux test possibly for life.
How is it that the only proof I have that I had the chicken pox is the bunch of get well cards that the other second graders gave me? How great would it be if I submitted that to student health services as proof?

No worries, they do not require any of that! Any computer that you like and can take notes will be just fineI hope Mizzou doesn't require us to purchase microscopes or $2000k laptops.... I'm very content with my apple pro....
$2000k laptops.
@SandstormDVM and @rockatiel Lenovo is having a sale this weekend on the laptop you both mentioned. Base model seems fairly cheap (maybe 30%ish off) but it gives you the option to change out features.
I'm one of the special people that tests false positive on the Mantoux as well, though I didn't get that vaccine. Annual chest rads for me, wooo...
I feel your pain, my parents lost my vaccination records and I too was born and raised in another country. And for some reason even my undergrad doesn't have my varicella or HepB records so now I've to get titters. Not as easy of a process as you would think with my PIA insurance.
Annual? Well, that's fantastic. How can they justify that, if you're not heading out into countries where TB is endemic? I mean, you'd think that if they had already seen a clear chest rad that they'd be convinced you're okay... Do they have any idea why you test positive? Could you have been exposed to someone who was asymptomatic at some point?
Yep, I registered for VIN earlier this week and have been sorta aimlessly browsing it since. There's so much information on there... almost makes me feel like I'm way in over my head. Though I've been having bad cold feet about vet school in general these past few weeks. How's everybody doing?
I just realized today that now that I have my school email set up, I could finally register for VIN. Next exciting moment after actually getting into school! No more having to peek over the doctors' shoulders as they're showing me threads on there!

FWIW, this happens to pretty much everybody. Here's a cold feet thread I remember from a quite a few years back... where TT then linked to oodles of even older ones. It was bumped in 2013 and '14 from people feeling the same way.Yep, I registered for VIN earlier this week and have been sorta aimlessly browsing it since. VIN is still too much information for me. I search for very specific things and get very specific answers. I don't just read around to try and learn random things, because it would be overwhelming.

I still can't figure out how to even navigate VIN... I've tried a few times, but can't seem to quite get the way things are laid out.
It's weird.

- Annual Payment: Choose this option and pay with either a credit card or a check. You'll receive a reminder (invoice) when your membership is due for renewal. Yes, the fee is slightly higher than the monthly fee because we are not anxious to collect your membership fees in advance and if you choose this option, we feel obliged to ask you before we charge your membership fee and, given your busy schedule, can translate to many emails and phone calls from the VIN membership staff (see Annual Auto-Renew option above)
I do really wish VIN was laid out like... pretty much any other forum around. Does make it hard to just peruse, and I feel like every couple months I find a whole new section of the website that I've never used. During fourth year I mainly used their associates pages and looked for conference proceedings on relevant topics. I really like their rounds podcasts for long drives, too. And the heart sounds section.
Oh yes, definitely the Plumb's too. Beats hunting around the hospital for a copy.Yeah I mainly used VIN for the online Plumb's... it was easy to access and searchable. I tried to search things a few times on VIN (articles or even forums) and just got confused by what I was looking at or even where the most recent info was. Once I get access again, I will look around a bit more and try to kind of figure out where things are.
Guys...... What's VIN......

The only thing that's been easing my anxiety is looking for fun stuff to do in the neighborhood (even though I probably won't have time for much of it). Just found out there's an arts center not 2 blocks away from my new apartment, and they do weekly swing dances. More excited for that than gross anatomy, the thought of which makes me want to barf from worry. I highly recommend this distraction tactic.
Ugggh. Still haven't found a place to live. Not knowing the areas where I'm going doesn't really help, but my wife shooting down anything I find that's halfway decent is killing me.
Yikes. Can you do a weekend trip to look for a place?
I found a place and need to pack/ move. But my hubby is dragging his feet. First, he decided not to move and made arrangements with his job to spend part of his time working remotely (i.e., where I'll be). Then, he "forgot" the lease start date and avoided questions about arranging movers. Yesterday, he changed his mind again and decided he'll move with me. At this point, I no longer have the energy to care where he lives. I'm just going to focus on moving my stuff, my pets, and myself. He can handle his stuff and selling our house, or renting it, or whatever he wants.

Yikes, that's crazy. And if I remember correctly, a lot of your school choice hinged on his ability to get a job... He better make up his mind. Just focus on getting settled in BR right now and getting this new adventure started.
Yup. He has the option to work 100% from BR, and that was our original plan. After digging into things a bit, he discovered a significant problem with that option. It's a long story, but the manager who offered that arrangement was missing information. So, I understand logically why it's not an ideal situation for him.
At this point, I can't wait for him to figure it out. Been packing and getting my things ready to go. I found a great place to live that allows my pets, and I'm excited to explore a new town. Just trying to survive the move.
When do your classes start? This month, right?
