Official 2014-2015 GI Fellowship Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
@adagio : I am not sure if Mayo clinic Jacsonville or Yale is better. Just happy to have another interview.
@GI2k15: yes. Baylor Houston
@GI_IMG: it's clinical track. I am not that good of a researcher.

Anyone get calls about interviews or just emails?

Guys, I do not want to be pessimistic, but I did not get anything yet….not even a rejection…!!

Yea, I'm not doing great either right now. Expected more by now.

same here guys, no ivs, 2 rejections, not sure if season slow or just :bang:

can you guys separate AMG's interview invites from the IMG once so will know more about the IMG status (like the cardiology forum) ?

I also believe that separating IMG on visas from AMGs would be beneficial. I have not received any interview calls yet. One rejection from Methodist Dallas.

I don't think you guys are alone.
3 published articles, 15 abstracts, from a university program. Good USMLE scores. No interviews yet. 2 rejections
I am trying to stay optimistic but its been a month since submitting the app.

I don't know who is an IMG on the forum. I have tried to go back and look at what comments have been made in the past to get a better idea but I am not sure who is an IMG. I also don't know if it is safe to assume that GI_IMG is an IMG so if the IMGs want to update the thread we can have a better idea

Okay Armstud, nice layout there. I hope that more IMGs would join and update the list. at least it would give some sort of outlook on IMG chances in the match.
great Ivs you have by the way.

We will probably meet in case :)

Thanks adagio! Sorry, I did not mean to hijack your post of the IMG invites. Will probably see you at Case, if we ever get the invite dates!

No thanks for arranging the post.
I wonder whats the point of sending interviews without interview dates. I just hope that if CCF and OSU are going to send their interviews, that they would be in the same period as case. otherwise, its going to be very difficult to travel. CCF is pretty competitive though, and I dont know whether they take IMGs.

Hey guys, I am am IMG and have the following interviews so far -
Henry Ford
OHSU
Baylor
Univ of colorado
Univ of Cincinnati
Rejection - univ of Washington
Hope this helps everyone

GI_IMG: did you apply to Mayo florid, VCU, and Case? it would be interesting to see patterns of acceptance and rejections by programs

I did apply to mayo Florida and case, not heard back yet

This is so helpful adagio and armstud, you guys are awesome. I am img, no ivs yet, but will surely update when I get them.

Hopefully next week is more fruitful and brings smiles to us.

@GI_IMG : This is very weird: U Colorado is a better program than Mayo florida. It is surely more reputable as an institution than CW. It really bewilders me how one would apply to these three and get the stronger one but not the rest. Any thoughts?

@dr12 : I hope next week will bring you interviews. how many programs did you apply to?

thanks guys for updating the list, I think this is more helpful thanks again

It is crazy how random this process is.

@ GI_IMG and Adagio are you guys US citizens or need visa?

so far, 0 invites, 0 rejections, 68 applications.

i'm an american grad at a nationally recognized university program, coming out of a mid-tier med school
usmle scores are probably killing me, at least filter-wise ...below average step 1, average step 2, great step 3
3 pubs (2 first name), 8 posters, working on 2 prospective studies 1 IRB approved with prelim data and the other pending IRB approval
4 letters of rec used:
- chief of med, who is a gi, massive name, pretty sure it's a good to very good letter
- chief of hep, again, very big name, especially in state of residency, should be an excellent letter
- program director, great letter, he noted lots of commendations in my file (flattering, didn't know my program collected commendations)
- associate program director, excellent letter

Wow, I have pretty much the identical profile (amg as well, pretty much same stats/creds/letters) and NADA

IMG on visa (exchange visitor). 96-97th percentile in all steps (2.5< standard deviations above mean, not the reported 99 two digit scores). residency at upper mid tier U program with strong GI name. two years of research before residency and >20 papers (clearly, not first author on all). double the number for abstracts (posters and presentations included). LORs from renowned GI specialists (two). PD and research mentor. (total 4 letters. quality is excellent). ~70 applications.
It must be super competitive this year; I thought I would get couple more IVs by now.

UCLA interview. 1 date only, no other options, just like Yale.
Congrats adagio and davita!

Congrats to you too Hepatastic. UCLA is easily one of the top GI and Liver programs in the nation. Needless to say, I am thrilled.

Ucla as well. Hopefully this one opens up the gates for more on the west coast.
