I realize that we are going through a tough patch here during this transition period, but if we can all just hold on for a little bit, I'm sure that we can all pull together after while.
 
Shouldn't have banned VC. I mean he's a med student. He made it through and I'm sure he had some good advice for some of us who are not there yet.

He has a good story, from what I recall. Married with kids. Successful career as an engineer, I think. Ended up getting a free ride (along with everyone else) at Cleveland Clinic.

I always have more respect for the med students than pre-meds because they got to the other side. Med students should never casually be banned on a forum called the Student Doctor Network.

drimpossible, did you get my PM from earlier? If you get a chance can you offer me some advice regarding Rutgers Newark and UMDNJ as I am also planning on taking that route?

You all are so busy trying to imagine some sort of huge conspiracy, that you are leaving the subject of what kind of forum we want. Here we have a new post by a brand new user in this forum who is just begging to have his hopes and dreams dashed, and no one is willing to do so. Am I really the one who has to do all of the work around here.

I sent gimli a message to make sure that he was for real and he replied that he is, indeed, seeking mentoring. He is from a poor family and has never had anyone to help. I suggested that it might be a day or two before he could get some help, because the forum is currently a little scattered.

Are we really going to fall for a sob story like his without acting like the evidence-based-advice forum? Come on folks, get out your scalpels like good surgeons and do your controlled injury.

So why was this individual banned?

Ed seems to be one of the most arrogant and pretentious members of this site (i'll probably get banned for this.) I understand telling people how it is and not sugar coating the FACTS, however, Ed seems to think that if one receives a C in a pre req then they don't have the intellectual capacity to become a physician. I believe he's quit monochromatic when it comes to his opinion on a lot of issues. I personally think you're a little too into yourself, but what do I know...i got a C in phy II 🙄.

If i get banned we know who did it.:meanie:

I'd say I'm diachromatic.

I thought we agreed several years ago on my arrogance, it's kind of like saying Reagan was an actor. Nevertheless, our understanding is that name-calling is supposed to be disallowed and since you think that arrogant is a cut, then this will have to serve as your first warning.

I wouldn't worry. I don't think any member is ever casually banned on SDN. It's no trivial matter. Actions taken by moderators are always subject to review. Typically it takes flagrant violations of the TOS, repeated violations with warnings, or if the member is an obvious troll or spammer, to warrant being banned.

Either way, I have to say that banning vc7777 is a shame and he will be greatly missed. I'm sure others feel the same way, but I know i personally gained from his experience.

That's never a good reason to ban an member and should not happen. As I mentioned above, all actions taken by a moderator are subject to review. If it was an unjust action, steps will likely be taken to fix the problem. Moderators do not have unchecked power.

I don't know this member. If this ban was allowed to happen, there is a good reason. If not, then it will be addressed appropriately.

Oh, you are not wrong. Consider the significance of today's date. Put the pieces of the puzzle together. I don't know if the actions taken here fall into that category. They could be legit and warranted, but then again, what does your spider sense tell you?

Yes, it was an April fools joke. No, I'm not an assistant moderator, vc7777 is not banned (he was part of the joke and we agreed on what to argue about first) Q is not leaving (to my knowledge) and I am really not quite the jerk that I have been acting like today.

And my wife is NOT church lady and doesn't go around telling people to watch their language (well, she will say that to our children)

I even got an apology from someone who came after me in this thread. That was too much. We were actually making people feel bad about themselves, and I only like to do that in the pulpit just before my "come to Jesus" wind up.

Look, I'm kind of sorry, but it was really, really fun.

Back to the original post: Q, I could always look toward you for best of advice. Thanks for all that you've done. Your gracious presence and service here will be missed. However, as a Moderator Emeritus, and PGY-0 myself, I can appreciate where you are coming from. Stop by and say, "Hi," every once in a while.

EdLongshanks: You have some big shoes to fill. Moderating is a difficult task, as you will soon see. Often, the gentlest of actions can do more to ensure the smooth flow of a forum than the most severest of actions. Listen closely and above all, be humble. Good luck.

While I'm not surprised (Q stepping down would be about the most plausible of what's transpired), I'm disappointed you couldn't hold out until it was at least April 2 on the East Coast. 😛
 
Someone here once called Oz. Today I got to play Oz.

The man you all have been getting mad at today was not me. Look, I've been in a conservative church all of my life. I know the caricatures that people believe in about churches like mine. All I had to do was hint at them and people will fill in all sorts of inaccurate details. Saturday Night Live has been doing Church Lady for years.

Fill in the blank is fun. "Edlongshanks is Arrogant and ......" I confess to the arrogant, but it is kind of fun to see all of the words that people will add to that sentence.

The funnest part of the day was adding in my wife. There is nothing more irritating than to believe that not only is Big Brother watching, but his annoying little gimlet-eyed wife is helping and SHE will miss no details. It's like spreading out catnip for the kitties.

The honest apology was too much for me. For someone to humble themselves enough to apologize to the jerk that I was being just made me feel to bad. I DO have a conscience.

Why do we have April Fools in the first place? Either way, after being punked by my brother... I knew this had to be BS because no way would Ed be able to ban someone without it coming back on him... I have been a forum moderator before, and usually the rule is that in order to ban someone for poor behavior, more than one moderator has to approve it, and if the behavior is in relation to a mod, they can't be one of the people approving it... 😉 Good work Lady and Gentlemen
 
Hi everyone,

First, I just wanted to tell all of you that Ed is not really a mod, and I'm not really stepping down as the Nontrad forum mod. As some of you noted, yesterday was April first, and I'm sorry if our April Fools gag got a little out of hand. It wasn't our intention to upset you all to the point of revolt--I kind of figured that Ed was such a controversial choice for mod that more of you would catch on than actually did. :d

Second, I really appreciate the show of support, and I also appreciate the help from those of you who were Ed's accomplices. That includes the hapless vc7777, who really *was* banned--but by me and with his knowledge and consent, not by Ed. I may even restore his account, if he asks me nicely. :meanie: (No, really, I will restore it.)

Finally, if you are going to be angry at someone, you should be angry at me and not Ed. To retiredadmin and those who felt like she did, you have my humble apology. 😳
