I recently received an invite to fly somewhere a bit far from where I am currently. I was wondering if people on SDN knew of ways to get around paying so much for a flight to an interview by chance?

Some schools will give you information about nearby hotels where you can get a discount if you let them know you're coming for a DS interview.

You can always try expedia or websites like that. Supposedly, if you book your flight + hotel, you save even more. I can't attest to that, though.

Do you have a credit card with rewards? Many of them let you turn those rewards in to plane tickets, so that's always an option. I'm not sure about your age or your living situation, but I believe that my Dad has lots of frequent flier points that we'll use for my interviews (he travels for business).

Any way you cut it, though, it'll be expensive!

Is it safe to assume that people that didn't receive interviews from Case on Monday are rejected (I was in the first batch.)?

The most I would read into it is that those people are just not the school's absolute top choice. Even that may not be true, it could be a processing/workflow, timing, chance, etc.

Until you receive a letter/email/phone call from them notifying of a rejection, you're not rejected. This goes for all schools.

EDIT: *most* schools

As a re-applicant, I know that is not true. Some schools simply give "silent rejections." Some schools do not send rejections until months after they decided to reject you.

They were discussing Case Western... I am pretty sure they start updating applicants early on about rejections.

True there are some. Case is not one of them fortunately. And plus, right now isn't really months after anything for this cycle so..

Who has the tape, pushpin, tack, or whatever? Why has this not been stickied yet? With the absence of predents and a only lackluster showing on the replacement sites, this is the best resource for the cycle's IAR information.

The statement explicitly said "all schools." I know that Case is really good about keeping candidates informed.

How do you know you're rejected and when that decision was made? I suppose you could call months down the road and ask for your official date of rejection once you somehow know you're rejected? Is telling you your date of rejection common either in portal, written, email, or phone notification? I had two emails after the cycle ended. I suppose I could assume it was decided earlier at that point, but they didn't say.

Nonetheless, it's mid-July. Unless someone has a sub-required GPA, it's pretty safe to assume there haven't been any rejections. I have a feeling a few invites are in the works today.

Not true. I am a reapplicant, and I applied to Case last year. I still have not been notified of a rejection. However, I am pretty sure that I am officially rejected from last year.

You should really follow up with them.. I mean, it's kind of an unspoken responsibility as an applicant. In the interview/acceptance/rejection thread for previous years, rejections did occur early on and all throughout. Case was very definitive in their decisions from what it seems.

I did email them a couple of months ago (end of April), and they told me that I was still "under review". I just emailed them right now to see if I am officially rejected and am waiting for a response. If I am still not officially rejected, I wonder if there is a chance? Probably not, but we'll see what happens.

EDIT: I just received an email from them. It said "Thank you for your inquiry. Your application actually wasn't really rejected. We had received so many outstanding applications, and we had to pick the ones that would best fit the program successfully. Good luck this year since you're trying again."

So, I guess Case Western doesn't actually notify everyone that they have been officially rejected...

That was the most unprofessional response I've heard from the admissions committee lol.. Never knew there was a vague grey area between acceptance and rejection xD

Well... They actually do. Like they said, you were not really rejected.

Anyone has an idea of when Buffalo, BU, NYU and Tufts call for an interview?

NYU says in their email that they start interviewing early Sept. Not sure about the other two

I just got an email from Tufts earlier today saying that interviews start in November and they will be extending invites in October. Hope that helps!

Do you guys have any information in the school decisions page of AADSAS? I remember it would say "invited for interview" or Under Review" or whatever. Mine is just blank.

WTF?!!! ppl getting interviews from NOVA already?!!! I was second batch and I only just got an email from them acknowledging my application and telling me to fill out the secondary. What is going on here?

I was in second batch and just got the secondary. But from my understanding, you could of gone ahead and filled out the secondary even if they didn't email it to you. Lol. I think that's why they already have interviews.

Mines blank as well. Will probably take some time for them to update it.

Thanks!

Yeah, I didn't wait for an email to fill out and submit my secondary. Last year they wanted us to submit it ASAP so I just went ahead and did it and it ended up paying off. I'm sure you guys will hear from them soon though. Nova seems to be pretty active right now.

Nope, but got a call from NOVA stating that my application is under review now...👍

Feel like some invites will be coming tomorrow and Monday.

I hope so! I applied to Case Western, 3rd batch, and only got the email that they received my fee... nothing else. 🙁

hey if this helps you feel any better I was in the first batch and I got nothing from the 40 schools that I applied to.

That doesn't make me feel better because I feel bad for you... and it makes me nervous because I applied to 10 schools (I know I'll be rejected from 2 of them already because of my lack of research)... 🙁 I am sure things will show up for you soon!

Everyone relax! It's still too early to be panicking. You guys should begin to worry if you have heard nothing by November. GL

I'm a natural worry wart. I get it from my mom. 😳 I'm trying to shake it off though!

As your friend I suggest that you spend less time worrying and more time with your family and friends. This time won't come back and some of you will be forced to move far away to attain your goals and dreams.....I wish you all the best! GL
