This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

11. Spend weeks at the cabin learning to do water ski tricks, wake boarding, reading, eating, and drinking beer.

You are my kind of person.

45) vacation/bachelor party in Vegas (never been)
46) quit job (early july)
47) Spend as much time in Lake George as possible catching some rays, reading, sleeping in, hiking, camping, swimming, boating, water skiing, partying.
48) taking a couple road trips (to maine, maybe philly, boston) seeing friends I haven't seen in too long.

and NOT using the computer for anything more to check email.

does anyone have any suggestions that do not involve massive amounts of money 🙁.

49) Get married
50) Go on a cruise (for the honeymoon)

51. Print a copy of my transcript, throw it in the fire, and yell **** IT.
52. Skimboard like no tomorrow
53. Hit the pub every weekend
54. Buy/train a puppy.

Why just the weekend? 😀

55) Video Games 24/7
56) Clubbing every night
57) Read some mystery fantasy novels... u know how they make u stick to them for hours on end..
58) kill a bee! - they're hard to get
59)Watch a movie everyday...
60) When none of the others are enticing, get some sleep 😛

1. Trick this chick named Alison into liking me...
2. Spend lazy summer days daydreaming
3. Learn to play the guitar better.
4. Sit on my back porch smoking hookah
5. Fly a kite
6. Get into great shape by running on the beach
7. Learn how to shave (I hope to hit puberty sometime during my M2-M3 year)
8. Sit on the dock with my friends (like in Dawson's Creek)
9. Get a huge sunburn

Do you guys realize that in 3 months we will be finding apartments and having our lives change FOREVER! in 4 months we will be starting school, many of us will leave our families and friends to start a somewhat "Adult" life...full of responsibility. This is really exciting and nervous for me to think about. 2 years ago I had no clue what I wanted to have a career in. 1 year ago when I was thinking of applying to med-school, I had no idea if I would actually get in. Now, as I sit here, I can only think about how much my life will be changing in a few short months and how I have absolutely no idea about what many of those changes will be.

I was thinking the other day about how much effort I have put into getting into medical school, and I really feel that it is the most rewarding thing to ever happen to me. If I had to decide between winning the lottery or becoming a medical student, I would pick being a medical student because I have worked so hard for this and it has finally paid off. When things are just given to you with no imput of work on your behalf, then I don't really feel like you can be happy about what you have.

THE END.
😆Awesome; best of luck with that.

61) Save as much money as you can. You're going to miss having it.

64) Read "The Master and Margarita" in the original Russian
65) Go into a 2 week coma after quitting research in late July
66) Convince myself that $200K isn't that much money...

67. Run around the campus with nothing on except a Superman cape (or a white coat).

If most of the posts on here are serious, then 90% of the 101 things can be summarized as:

Use my parents' money to have fun. 👍

I for one have been saving up for my trip for over a year. My parents are paying for my plane ticket as a graduation present and I'm covering the rest.

Not saying everyone is like that, but we aren't all COMPLETELY feeding off our parents. I think I deserve some sort of a present for graduation 😉😀

every piece of advice ive ever been given about the summer before med school can be summed up in three words........DO NOT STUDY

I don't think you should ONLY study the summer before med school. I just think some study has value, especially if you haven't taken an anatomy course.

55) Video Games 24/7

Halo 3 😍

and don't kill bees, we need them 🙁

68) 2 weeks in Hawaii- surfing, hiking, SCUBA, relaxing, etc.
69)2 weeks in Tahiti - see above activities, but multiply diving by 10- I can't wait for 2 solid weeks of diving

P.S.- none of this is on my parents money- I've worked full time year round (more than full time in summer) throughout college despite my schooling being covered by scholarships, and like to blow my money on travel. The plane tix for Hawaii are free via frequent flier miles, and this is my second time going to Tahiti (the first was for a tropical biology class) and even though its expensive its worth the cash cuz the diving is amazing. I'm not going to be able to do this again for quite some time, and I've never taken a summer off since I was 14...I deserve it-its my gift to myself!

I looked into Tahiti and the South Pacific in general as a place to travel to...but it did look rather expensive. That's why I chose Bali. It still has nice diving/surfing and the like but the island itself is cheap (accomodation/food/transportation wise).

we all know you meant to say call of duty 😀

Seconded.

Except the summer before medical school I'll probably go on a video game hiatus and try to do something I'll never have the opportunity to do again.

I guess I'll travel to Hollywood for 3 months and try and make it as a movie star, with the med school acceptance in hand just in case 😎

70. WoW
71. pay off my credit cards (though I'll probably just add more to them in reality)
72. pray that UPS doesn't break my computer when I ship it

apparently my life is less eventful than others on here.

You're not going to hand-carry it?:scared:

73) Veg out for days at a time, because once med school starts, you will not have this opportunity until either retirement or death.

You're not going to hand-carry it?:scared:

It's a desktop. I'm taking my notebook comp as a carry-on. The desktop is too large to fit in those overhead bins (let alone too heavy for me to lift up there). If I could be sure that the plane wouldn't lose my computer or toss it like any other piece of luggage, I would check it.

Oh, man.🙁 Can you pack it in non-static-generating fluffy things?

When I talked to UPS, I was told to bubble wrap it and place it in a box of peanuts with at least 4 inches of space from the sides. I may ask for more tips when them time comes to move.

What program (Taiwan) is this?

I actually made a list. I'm a non-trad and long-since stopped living off my parents so all of the items are on the cheapish side.

If the link is too much work, here is a brief excerpt of some good ones:

- take artistic photographs
- meditate regularly
- exercise regularly
- try some new recipes
- find a geocache
- volunteer
- visit museums
- go to a baseball game
- visit a psychic
- karaoke
- go wine tasting
- go on a picnic
- go to the zoo
- run a 5k
- see a fireworks show
- memorize a beautiful poem
- see a play
- take a dancing lesson
- read a book about architecture
- learn a card trick

I wanted to get into photography but buying the camera is coming up to be a little bit too expensive.

I am gonna volunteer for a week in a summer camp for sick kids, i had a lot of fun over there.

I am a horrible singer but my fiance loves karaoke so i might do that one of these days

I have been dying to go to the zoo, i never been to one here in the US.

I have to learn how to dance salsa, i been putting that off for too long.

you have a pretty good list

If you want to drop everything else, you can pick up a decent 10MP Canon Rebel XS (1000D) package with 18-55mm kit lens, bag, image recovery software, 4GB SDHC card+wallet, USB card reader, and cloth for around $500.👍

You don't need an expensive camera for photography, just a good eye. I've seen some amazing photos come out of home-made pinhole cameras (basically photo paper in a can. you uncover the pinhole to take the photo and cover it back up to go develop the paper).

where?!😱

74. Cruise with the family
75. Romantic vacation with the GF
76. Skydiving with the homeboys

Most of those things are of trivial cost. A 4GB SDHC card, for example, can be had for <$5 if you pay attention, same for USB card readers. A bag can cost a bit of coin, maybe $75-$100 for a nice one.

That said, I don't like the idea of penny-pinching on a DSLR purchase. The buyer should know going into this that the XS kit itself is not particularly worth the cost outlay relative to quality point-and-shoots. The main value comes (and is very large) in swappable lenses (among others).

Sure, a DSLR kit will cost you ~$600. Great. Be prepared to, at some point in the future, drop twice that (or more) on a single lens. The EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM comes to mind. Great lens. ~$1600.

Just know that you're not done once you've pulled the trigger on a DSLR kit. You're buying the golf clubs, but be prepared for the greens fees.

It's actually more like you're buying the golf bag and maybe a couple clubs...but you need to now start buying all the other clubs to improve your game.

That said there have been in the past "sales" at camera stores where something like the Xs is sold with a standard 55mm IS lens and a second "zoom lens" (both canon lenses). Most times the zoom lens will probably not have IS and it won't be the top level lens but you have to start somewhere, and you can learn a lot with just that "starter kit". Paying for 1600 dollars for a lens is going to be useless until you actually know the settings on the camera and how you can use them, and that takes time.

Photography is an expensive hobby..but those "kits" that you can fine are definitely a good place to start and can do a lot for you. I started with like an ~800-900 DSLR camera with two lens and that was good enough for me for a long time, until I really started to experiment with the kinds of photography I liked and realized I wanted to do more macro shots. And the quality of a photograph with just the standard lens on a DSLR compared to even a really nice point and shoot is MUCH better if you mess around and learn all the settings and options.

I would recommend the Nikon D90. I think it packs a lot more features for the buck, especially versus the entry level XS/XTI. The D80 is good too, although I believe it was discontinued.

What about a prosumer camera (Cannon G10, for example). They can do pretty much everything the DSLR's can while bring significantly more portable. Slightly smaller processor, so you can't blow up past 11x16, and not as good in low-light conditions, but my G10 has basically replaced by DSLR for all intensive purposes. Even takes good macro shots!

Yeah, the higher-end powershots are really, really nice. I don't suppose that lens is interchangeable, is it?

Unfortunately not, it's good for most stuff, but no trixy fisheye or super-zoom shots will be coming out of the G10. Honestly though, I only use my DSLR about 10% of the time now, and if I didn't have one I don't know if I'd miss out on enough to go buy one. Prosumer is the way to go unless you're doing VERY serious photography (or have money to burn).

2. Africa: serengheti safari, climb kilimanjaro, hike some rainforests, zanzibar beaches, head to south africa for some cage diving with great white sharks
