I think he/she's rubbing it in. Not hurt at all.I'm confused as to what your point is...
I sort of got that but I don't know why anyone here would care about dentists' salariesI think he/she's rubbing it in. Not hurt at all.
Trying to thin out the competition maybe? 😛I sort of got that but I don't know why anyone here would care about dentists' salaries
Yeah but you gotta look at teeth all day
I suppose you'd be living a life where you'd have better things to do than to validate yourself by bragging about the average salary of dentists.
I thought we become doctors because we care about patients....
Why does the money even matter if, no matter what we decide, we still make far more than the average american. What an ass

This.
Academically speaking, Dental School requirements are a lot less competitive than Medical School ones. I wrote the DAT for ****s and giggles, Scored 23, have a 3.6+ GPA and am still not considering dentistry because I don't feel it would reward me the same way Medicine would. It's not all about the money, bud.
OP salty cuz nobody likes/respects dentists?
That isn't cool.
The only reason OP would post this is because s/he is bitter and feels the need to gloat to hide their insecurities lol

While we can all agree that OP is a troll (a bad one at that), I don't think there's a need to rag on dentistry as a profession.
Bingo. Miserable at your job is still miserable whether you get paid a little or a lot. You'll just drive a nicer car to your personal hell. But if you can figure out what you enjoy doing and get somebody to pay you to do it, that's the real success story.Whatever career you may choose, don't choose it because of the paycheck. You will be miserable.
But I'm not even a "doctor". I couldn't get into med school 🤔
Every day I wake up, feeling ashamed of myself

Not sure what your point is but going to medicine, dentistry etc. because of the money is probably the worst idea possible. Money and job security should always be a consideration, yes, but honestly, its an economically impractical route.
If we really cared about money, finance/I-banking is the way to go, but even then, the hours and conditions are strenuous. The trade-off becomes much more significant for higher-paying professions
If anything, this is actually the most benign and possibly informative troll thread compared to the usual garbage that pops up in preallo. So good job

It is true that dentists who graduated many years ago are better off financially than family practice doctors as are dental specialists compared to medical specialists.
Trust me, this would no longer be the case as current students are burdened by enormous amounts of debt and general dentists are dipping into specialist procedures.

I challenge you to create one post that doesn't ooze humblebrag.I went to a top ~5 undergrad
Seriously
Please stahp
It's painful
👍 Oral surgeons are ballers. Congrats on choosing an awesome field. Pretty laid-back personalities too, from the people that I've met.
Never seen an OP call himself out as a troll, that might be an SDN first. Kind of a strange thread. If you don't drive your self-worth from what others think of you ... is there any need to post the figure in the first place? Even if you wrap it up as a troll thread, seems kind of pointless.
Point is, there are a lot of great options out there for pre-health students, and most are financially viable. Shadow as much as you can as a college student and find something that piques your interest.

I know you're a jealous kid, and most likely upset you won't be starting medschool but I want you to realize a couple things: The reason physicians have respect isn't because of the money they make but because of what they do. Curing one patient's cancer is worth more than an extra $500 to me and to most here. Most people don't go into medicine for the money, so your post is meaningless to most here. Dentistry isn't a bad career but there is no way in hell me or most of my colleagues on this forum would go back and be a dentist instead of what they do now. (BTW not that it would change my decision if I made 100K/yr instead of what I do now, but my specialties averages are easily 100K more than OMFS).

since you're suggesting that dentists aren't respected cause they don't save lives, only a dentist can treat oral cancer.
I would like to see a gynecologist treat oral cancer, it doesn't happen.
These are all different specialties and all should be respected for what they do.

Wait...so you're saying that oncologists/ surgical oncologists can't treat oral cancer? Or is there like a dental oncology specialty?

You're incorrect. Dentists do not treat oral cancer. It's the ENT physicians who resect oral cavity cancers, medical oncologist who give the chemotherapy, and radiation oncologist who give the post-op radiotherapy.

Dental oncology is a focus of dentistry dedicated to treating the dental and oral health care as a result of cancer therapy. This is an area of oral medicine
devoted to improving the well-being and quality of life of people battling cancer.
Whether or not an oncologist can treat oral cancer isn't the point, the point is to respect all fields.

please stay informed.

As an oncologist I assure you I'm more informed than your extent of knowledge through reading a website. Dental oncologist may care for the patients in the post-treatment setting or resect very early stage lesions but they do not treat oral cavity cancers in the far majority of cases. Actually through my entire residency training and current practice (having treated 1000s of cancer patients) I have never had a dental oncologist involved in any of my patient's care. This discussion had nothing to do with not respecting dentists but the implied post by the OP that physicians are in it for the money which the poster is dead wrong on.

Treatment of oral cancers is a multidisciplinary approach involving the efforts of surgeons, radiation oncologists, chemotherapy oncologists, dental practitioners, nutritionists, and rehabilitation and restorative specialists, again my point was that saying dentists play no role in saving lives is wrong.
Yes the OP is wrong for what he said, I just wanted to address the comments insulting dental professionals.

I'm not sure where you picked up the insult. Dentist are involved to make sure the diseased teeth are removed prior to treatment of the cancer (that doesn't involve an oral oncologist). Please quote me where I insulted dentists???
Lol@OP trying to say dentistry salaries are great when 80% of dentists are general dentists, not all dentists are private practice owners (many are associates), and 75% of specialists earn less than the quartile quoted. So you're basically saying dentist salaries are awesome because of what the top quartile of the top quintile of dentists earn? Gr8 b8 m8
Not that most of us are in this for the money to begin with lol

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion,[3] often for their own amusement.

That's the dumbest **** I've ever heard. Let's rack up hundreds of thousands in debt, go through a decade or more of training, make endless sacrifices and assume huge liability risks so we can be compared to the 'average' American working some entry level retail job who has done none of those things.

Never really understood people that felt like they had to go on the internet and tell strangers that they are rich and went to a top 5 undergrad (which isn't really a thing)
Because they (like the OP) don't feel good about themselves.
