Hi everyone,

I am seeking advice before confirming my second interview this season.

I am currently scheduled for an interview 50 min from my house in Washington DC this month on the 24th. (Wednesday). I’m considering scheduling another interview on the 26th, however this will be in Vermont. I’m looking at bus tickets and the price is just right. I want to confirm with sdn-ers on what’s the common consensus on this topic?

The November interview date is the day I leave the country. And the December interview date works fine, but with being aggressive in trying to secure an acceptance, I prefer Oct. 26th over Dec 1st.

Please let my know what you think everyone especially appreciate any thoughts from:
@Goro @LizzyM @gyngyn @gonnif

I don't understand your question. You say you have two interviews int he same week (of Oct?) but yet you also talk of leaving the country, and of Nov and Dec?

I have a interview scheduled and confirmed for 10/24 in Washington DC.

Today I received an II for Vermont for 10/26 or 11/14 or 12/01.

Can’t do 11/14 because I am leaving the country that day from a flight leaving DC.

The Vermont has rolling admissions. So earlier is better, I think. My bus would get me to Vermont by 8pm 10/25. my interview would be 10/26 at 7:30 am

Is this too close together?
I hope this helps

Thank you

Why is October 26th a no go?

If I could get to Vermont earlier than 8pm on the 25th should I go? I feel a little thrown off on MMI format but wouldn’t my chances of acceptance be lower if I wait?

Cause you’re going to be tired as **** from the trip and stressed from the first interview, plus the stress of making it to your second one and doing well there. That’s a recipe to blow it.

I’m really not trying to be defensive. Just I want to hurry and book the flight if I do go with the 26th

if I left the night of the 24th and took at 5hr plane ride. And was in VT by 11pm on the 24th is have the whole day to rest. Good enough??

Is dec1st going to decrease my chances substantially or just a little?

I think you know yourself better than we do in terms if that is enough recovery time. The last thing you want to do is have a bad interview due to being tired from the previous interview and trip. FWIW I have not had issues with multiple interviews in a week, including cross-country flights, so I think it's do-able but you know yourself best.

Only you know if that's enough rest. It would be enough for me. Not enough for others.

I did back-to-back interviews 2 days apart a couple of years ago and it wasn't too bad, but I made sure I got one whole day to chill at the city of my 2nd interview. Burlington is a super nice place too so give yourself the day to explore - hopefully it won't be too cold yet. And if things hasn't changed since when I interviewed at UVM a couple of years, it'll be super fun so don't stress too much about. It was definitely much more relaxed than the other MMIs I attended for sure.

I recently had a similar issue in which I had two interviews, one the day after the first, in two cities several hours apart. Aside from not getting as much sleep the night before (which shouldn't be an issue for you), I actually enjoyed being able to compare the schools more directly. Plus, I get nervous just before interviews, and something about having just done one made me feel more prepared and confident.

Back-to-back is fine as long as you set some time for yourself to destress in between

I preferred to have my interviews close together. It allowed me to stay in the interview mindset better. Plus it meant I’d have to miss less work/class. Getting in on a bus at 8pm is kind of pushing it though. I’d really want to be ther by mid afternoon so I could destress and get a decent dinner then to bed early.

I've done a fair share of back to back interviewing and traveling for them, and it's really not too bad. The first rush I had (3 in the span of two weeks 4-5 hours in distance apart) I missed a lot of class and for me personally, it was more stressful possibly missing important material than being tired for interviews. The second rush set I had (another 3 in the span of 2 weeks) I remedied that by leaving after class and getting in late at night.

The one medical school I have already been accepted to I drove down 6 hours the night before (getting in around 11pm having left after my last class of the day) and interviewed there at 8am the next morning and then drove home 6 hours after the interview to be in class the next morning. It was a long day, and I felt silly being in the city for less than 24 hours considering it was 12 hours of driving, but it was well worth it and it didn't end up having any adverse effects aside from being hella tired at school the next day.

You're taking a bus; rest on the bus, take your time to decompress and plan to be in bed by 10pm the night before. You'll do just fine!

Most definitely choose the October date, you don't want to disadvantage yourself with rolling admissions.

Just make sure you have Plan A, Plan B and Plan C travel plans in case of bad weather.

I did two interviews back to back and I thought they were fine but I got accepted to the first and wait listed at the second. Not sure if that means anything at all but maybe I was too tired at the second one to notice any mistakes I might've made since I thought it went well at the time.

I would say to do both interviews in the same week. I did my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd interviews all in a 7 day period (legit flew from the 1st interview to the second one a few days later then drove across the state immediately after my 2nd interview, got to my 3rd interview city around 830pm and had my 3rd interview at 8am the next morning). If you feel like you can be prepared for both, then do it. I actually ended up getting accepted to the schools of the 1st and 3rd interview I went on, so don't think that just because you are mashing in two interviews in one week that it will hurt your performance. However, it would help if you had two different suits you could wear, or at least two different dress shirts.

I would normally say do back to back, but I would plan on flying as opposed to taking a bus. If you are looking at something like Greyhound/Megabus, you have a much greater chance of arriving at your destination much later than 8pm, especially since your ride will include Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and NJ/NYC traffic throughout the length of the drive. These buses are also pretty frequently delayed. I would realistically say plan on arriving at around 10-11pm. If you think that's fine, then take the bus. But I personally would fly and then if flight gets cancelled due to weather (probably not super likely in October), then try to get on a bus last minute.

If you have reliable transportation I would do them back to back ! I have three this week and it's going to be such a relief to have them all under my belt so I can finally relax from Interview prepping
