Hey guys,

how long did you have to wait after your AMCAS application was processed (verified) to get most of your secondaries? My app was processed on Monday (8.2.04) but I haven't recieved any new secondaries yet...

Thx

I started getting secondaries the week after I submitted my AMCAS. Well technically 5 days after.

Got an e-mail from Maryland late this afternoon. Invitation to fill out online application with a username and password.
me too, just got it. the application seems to be long but very straight forward and the questions are like Keck's(U$C). They also require a picture attached...

can someone please tell me what is on the UVA secondary??

i'm thinking of applying there but want to know what the secondary is like?

There are three essays. The first one asks "Why are you interested in attending the University of Virginia School of Medicine? (300 words)", the second one asks "Briefly describe yourself and your medical career as you see it ten years from now. (300 words)", and the third one asks "What do you think will be your greatest personal challenge as a physician, and how will you address this? (300 words)".

So, if schools don't start interviewing til Septemer or October, is there really an advantage to submitting secondaries in July or early August, as opposed to late August or early September? Do the schools review all secondaries received during the summer months and THEN decide whom to interview in the first round, or do they review secondaries as they come in and decide then and there whether to interview or not?

i would say that secondaries should be done as soon as possible, regardless of when a school starts interviewing. they probably review the app's as they recevie them.

HOWEVER: it is somewhat pointless to send in secondaries ASAP to schools with non-rolling admissions. it is well known that the earlier you interview at a rolling school, the better. so...if a school doesn't start to interview until sept/oct, but DOES start accepting people on oct 15, get the secondaries in soon.

early interview at rolling school = good

Someone please give me motivation to finish this UChicago secondary...

I've written like half a paragraph on the first question talking about how I convinced a friend to go to college when she wasn't sure...and I can't write any more.

I am out of essay juice....damn secondaries....

I'm not sure I agree. Early interview at a rolling school, yes, that's good. But rushing to get secondary sent in in late July only to sit in a pile until late August? Where is the benefit in that? Once interviewing has started my point would be moot. But before that, I'm asking, do schools make interview decisions on the applications? Or do they merely review and rank them? Regardless of when I submit my secondaries, my LORs won't go out til early September, since my premed committee is on summer vacation til then, which is why I'm wondering. This can't be all that uncommon, I would think...

Yeah I put off Pritzker till near the end. I only have Pitt, Columbia, and MSSM left now. Pritzker's app was horrible but the upside is that you get a nice feeling of accomplishment after you click 'submit'.

THIS SECONDARY BLOWWWWWWWWWS

Just need a little venting time. I SHOULD be able to say that I'm finished with ALL of my secondaries, but I can't submit MSSM!! I'm having a major problem with their payment screen and my payment won't go through. Hence, I haven't submitting their secondary even though it's been finished as far as I'm concerned since Wednesday night. I just want to be done with this portion of the application process. Please, MSSM, fix your website!!!!

Ok, I'm done.

whoa, if that's your biggest problem you are LUCKY. i think the rest of us are still swamped with secondaries, and still waiting for more to come. can't feel your pain, sorry.

by the way, MSSM said they'd have the problem with their wesbsite fixed by the end of the week.

Yup, that's my biggest problem at this point. Sorry if it seems small compared to what the rest of you are dealing with right now. Guess I was lucky in that all 11 schools I applied to were pretty prompt with secondaries. Good luck to all still waiting on/completing those annoying supplementals! :luck:

I had a problem submitting MSSM payment on IE also but then I used Mozilla and it went through, hope that helps.

I don't have Mozilla on my computer, just IE. Is this something you can download? How would I go about using this browser instead of IE? Thanks for your help.

Mozilla Firefox is the browser:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

You can download it free from the website.

Yay! Mozilla worked and I just got my confirmation email from MSSM! Thanks again Jason and Nate. Having all secondaries out the door is a very good feeling. Hope you all get there very soon. I think I'll go have a glass of wine to toast my accomplishment.

Anyone else having trouble accessing UPitt's secondary screen? It just endlessly tries to load for me.....

Have used IE, mozilla, and Opera. No dice for any of them...

im not being a smart ass. I was just saying to try it. You never know it may just work.

Looks like I'm not the only one having issues with Pitt's secondary. It just keeps giving me a blank page. I've tried Mozilla, IE, Opera, and Netscape.

My app is done. Just adding the essay and submitting. I hope I can accomplish this tonight.

Good luck!!!

Sorry, can't help you. I reworked those babies a couple of times just so they were within the word limit. I would assume it would give you a problem though.

Hi uclakid ... I have no idea about those schools. I did not apply to them. You might want to check out the MSAR since it lists the percentage of out-of-state applicants that each school accepts. :D

UCLAstudent, did you already start on teh Case secondary when you got the email?

YAY!! I got a secondary from a school that screens! (Ok, so it's not THAT exciting but it at least feels better than getting secondaries from schools that don't screen)

How did OHSU come?

I got it by snail mail ... but I'm pretty close to Oregon (CA), so maybe it got here quicker.

I got my OHSU secondary today, all the way up in Canada (go figure). After using the login info, I am wondering if I should somehow incorporate the three muskateers into my essay.

Thankfully, I have everything from last year all modified and ready to go, so this baby's going out tomorrow. Woo hoo!
