I heard from an Einstein faculty member that the Madoff occurances would not affect the medical school at all. They said that the money lost was predominantly from the undergraduate endowment and that no cuts were planned for the medical school.

That said, I'm still very curious/skeptical and would recommend someone ask admissions. My information is really anecdotal and not an official statement from the school.

for the past 1 month i've have been calling admissions regarding my applcn status....everytime i call they say my applcn is with the comittee and will get back 2 me in 1 week.....whats going on...how do they select ppl for interview?

unfortunately, I'm afraid no one on SDN knows the answer to that question, lola. Who knows how those minds work?

just got wait listed. i interviewed 12/19, im ****n bummed. Anyone know if AECOM is wait list friendly?

Ive gotten the same response Lola. Who knows! I wish I knew what kind of voodoo magic they were playing, it would be very helpful...LOL. Best of luck to you!

called them again today and they said our files will be with the comittee for 4-6 weeks before they make a decision....thanks and hope u get a good news soon as well

if i am interviewing this week... am i a lock for waitlist/rejection?

Hi All,

I too just got my acceptance notification for AECOM. For all of you who are going to Einstein, or really want to go to Einstein, what is the attraction for you? Don't get me wrong, I really liked the school and it is definitely one of my top choices, but I just want to hear what specifically is attracting all of you. Maybe one of you will have some insight that will help sway my decision.

I already posted this question in the Class of 2013 thread but there isn't much action (or replies) there yet.

Thanks!

did anyone arrange to meet other doctors

Hey did anyone have an interview after Dec. 19th get a response?

I don't think so, since they would have told you specifically in the interview invite. There's only one case I've heard of on SDN that someone got an interview invite explicity stating it was for a waitlist position.

I have my interview next week, and I called to see if I was interviewing for a waitlist spot. The person who answered the phone said that the class is basically full, but that (since it's a truly rolling process at AECOM) new spots open up and then are taken again every day as people withdraw and more are accepted.
so it was sort of a "yes and no" type answer.

Any news on how the waitlist works? In previous years, there have been 2 waitlists (favorable and normal). Has AECOM done the same this year? HOPING for some waitlist movement. :luck::luck:

good to know. so by that sense, they give any open spots to the newly accepted instead of the waitlist people?

I just got an interview invite...and I thought I was done with interviews this cycle! 🙂

I interviewed at Einstein last week. At the end of the day after everyone's interview, they have Dr. Dannis' special tour of the surrounding area. I'd highly recommend it if you are planning to interview. It doesn't fill up or anything, so you can go even if you don't reserve a spot like the emails say.

Anyway, Dr. Dannis said that each year Einstein has to accept to 500 students in order to fill their class of 185-ish. This isn't the norm for med schools. The school surveyed students asking why they were passing up Einstein... the answers were 1) cost and 2) the Bronx. So that was kind of the point of the tour, to see that the Bronx isn't horrible like everyone thinks. He also told us that in mid-January, about 180 acceptances were sent. The remaining three-quarters or so would be offered between February and April. He emphasized the fact that we weren't interviewing for a waitlist spot. If you get an interview, even in March, I'd suggest not worrying that it is for a waitlist spot.

Good luck everyone....

I recently got an interview invite as well. What dates are being offered right now?

Good to know, considering my interview is coming up next week. 👍

Hi guys. Anyone know the deal with pets in the AECOM apartments? I'm thinking of a cat or a bird. Are either allowed, or are there details posted anywhere? Thanks.

ACCEPTED VIA EMAIL AT 5:37 PM THURSDAY (3/5)!!! interviewed 1/23. was thrilled to receive the good news bc have been getting bogged down with nothing but bad news this month. i sincerely wish everyone the best of luck. getting into med school is TOUGH.

congrats hopscotch. tell me about it. lol

have you decided on going to AECOM now?

Good to know, considering my interview is coming up next week. 👍

According to AAMC guidelines "By March 30 of the matriculation year, each school have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services."

What does this mean for those of us who interview mid-late March? It sees like we are interviewing for waitlist spots, but we're at the very top of the waitlist...

why does everyone think that because they have a late interview they are automatically interviewing for a waitlist spot? It is getting annoying.

Schools offer more acceptances than they have seats. Therefore it is very very possible that they have many acceptances left to hand out without taking from the waitlist after march 30.

Very simple. Schools have been interviewing since September. I am not sure of the exact date for Einstein. What I do know is that Einstein didn't accept anyone until January, meaning that everyone who interviewed before that had to wait. After this, people hear on a rolling basis. In January, Einstein accepted (according to what I heard from Dr. Dannis) about 150 students. That means there were 350 seats still open. However, now that it is rolling, that number shrinks drastically with the weeks, as Einstein does multiple interviews per week (I think its 3 or 4) with 8-10 interviewees for each section. If you have an interview in late March, that means that almost 10 weeks have buy since they starting rolling. 10 weeks, 3-4 sessions/week, 8-10 students per week. This comes out to 240-400 interviewees. Knowing that schools accept approximately 50% of their interviewees, that means that 120-200 students were accepted. If 150 were in January, and 200 more are by March, that means 350 out of 500 acceptances are gone, and potentially more than this.

Basically, if you interview in January, there were 350 open seats to fill. If you interview in March, there are only 100, maybe less. Which session would you rather be at? Of course it is possible to be accepted in March. It is just that the numbers work against you at this point.

does anyone have an impression about how religious the school is as a whole? i am wondering what percentage of the students are jewish or religious, anyway. it must be pretty big considering they close the library and gym on sabbath.

it must be pretty big considering they close the library and gym on sabbath.

not necessarily. since the school is affiliated with a jewish university, its probably a universitywide policy of not having things open on sabbath, in which case there wouldnt need to be a substantial religious population necessitating it. thats just how they roll. maybe a student there has a better perspective on this though. why dont u ask in the class thread... they probably lurk around there more than here.

they don't close the library and gym because the students are a majority orthodox jewish. yeshiva university, einstein's parent institution is orthodox, so they close the library on saturday and serve kosher food in the cafeteria. other than that, everything is just like any other school.

i've even heard (very anecdotally, i think either my interviewer or student tour guides) that some are pushing for the library to be open on saturdays and that it might happen...

Accepted!

email... 5:48pm today! Woohoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'm going.

congrats to hopscotch, 12six and everyone who got accepted and good luck to the rest.

did anyone write an update letter and get a response?

Should I be worried if I interviewed in jan and I still haven't heard back from them? I called admissions and they told me that I would get snail mail late march to early april.

When did you interview in jan? On their website, this is what they said:

It may take up to 6 weeks after interview for the Committee to review an application. Applicants should not be alarmed by the time needed to review an application. It has been our experience that highly rated candidates are usually offered a place in the class regardless of timing of the Committee's review..

I interviewed Jan. 21 so it's almost 8 weeks since I've interviewed.

not to worry. took 10 weeks for mine... it seems they're a little bogged down this season. i'd say by the end of march/beginning of april you should hear.

so i'm interviewing this week. Is albert einstein P/F first two years? Am I interviewing for a waitlist spot? I think i have enough waitlists if I am.

christee, if you read a couple of posts back, someone pointed out that Dr. Dannis said people now are not interviewing for waitlist spots. Also, albert einstein is purely P/F for the first 2 years.

ok thanks!!!

i sent one back in mid january, e-mail and snail mail, and never got a response.

however, i just got an interview invite today! 👍 silence for 4 months, and then another interview...

Do you guys think it's possible that if we interview in mid to late March we'll get a decision a bit sooner than previous interviewees have because the May 15th deadline is getting close?

I hope so, but when I interviewed there, one of the med students said she also interviewed in march and didn't hear back until late april/early may.

IIRC, the first batch of decisions for fall interviewees were sent out Jan 15 and after that acceptances were on a rolling basis.

Does anyone know when Einstein stops interviewing??

I am coming to NY on April 1st and wanted to request an interview, has anyone done this??

Latest date for interview is June 1 according to their website. By requesting, you mean you're gonna update them that you're in the area right? I don't think anyone can request for an interview. Good luck. :luck:

The admissions office told me that they don't interview after the end of April. If they do interview in May, that would be really annoying because I'm having to cut a trip to Asia short because they gave me very few choices for interview dates...

I was invited for an interview and tried to get one that early (this was about two weeks ago), I was told that they have no openings until April 19th and that the last day for interviews is April 30th
