Two quick questions:
(1) How will I know if AMCAS has received and verified my transcript? (I couldn't find this anywhere on my AMCAS app, I don't think...) Following up on that, what do they mean when they "verify" it? Just match it up with my AMCAS account?
(2) Based on previous years, how long does it usually take for AMCAS to verify your whole application if you (a) submit it the day AMCAS opens, (b) a couple of weeks from then?
1. AMCAS will email you when they get it. It's also posted on the front page of your AMCAS application, where it says "Not Submitted to AMCAS" - click on the "Details" link in that section...
2. From what I hear, it will probably take AMCAS a few days (3-5 business days) to verify it if you submit it the day it opens. The wait shouldn't change much in a few weeks, but in about 6 weeks, the wait will slowly increase to 1-2 weeks and then up to 4 weeks or more.
Hi everyone,
I have some questions regarding AMCAS applications. Thank you very much in advance!
1) I already have a bachelor's degree and currently enrolled in nursing program for the 2nd bachelor's degree. My major is nursing, but I decided to take more upper division science courses instead of taking nursing courses. Should I put (check the boxes) these courses as both undergraduate and post bac?
2) What should I put for "year in school" if it is my 2nd bachelor's degree? (is 1st year in the 2nd bachelor's degree labeled as "junior"?)
3) I know that college level courses taken during during high school years should be labeled as "high school" for "year in school." How about a course taken at a community college that is pre-college writing course? That course is in the community college transcript along with other courses that are college level. Should I also put that in the "course work"?
4) How should I label "year in school" for the community college if I took classes several years apart?
5) I got a "W" for one class, but on the transcript it says "DR." Should I just write DR as a grade on the course work?
6) I had a class where I went to a high school and tutored students during class time (Education class called Field Study). For the question "Did the course include a lab section?", do I choose Lecture only even though there wasn't really a lecture?
7) I took a comparative literature class for English R1B (2nd semester of English, required course). Do I label that as English or Foreign Lan/Linguistics/Lit?
8) I took a "Performance and culture" class by "Theater, dance, and performance" department. The class was crossliniked with Classics and the main theme was Greek Tragedy. Can I label it as English/Lit?
9) Even though I passed ochem, I took it again at different university. Should I label it as "repeat"?
Thank you very much!
1-2. If you started the second bachelor's AFTER receiving your first, what you need to do is list this second major as a separate school under "Schools Attended" (even if its the same school). List the second program type as "Postbaccaleurate Undergraduate." Then in Course Work, add the courses for the second degree to the second "School" listing, and select "Year in School" as "Postbacc" or whatever it is. If you started this program before you finished your first degree, I have no idea what to do.
3. If it's on the transcript, it must go in AMCAS. You can call AMCAS if you want, but I'd classify it as "High School."
4. Label them based on credit hours if they are split. Look at the coursework details section in the
AMCAS Help section for more info.
5. Write whatever's on the transcript. If it says DR, list DR.
6. I guess you could choose the "lab" section if you really wanted to. For my preceptorship I just picked "Lecture Only." They really need a "Service Learning" category...
7. English.
8. No. Label this "Fine Arts."
9. Yes. Label it "Repeat" the second time. It's considered the same course even if you took it at a different university.
Hope this helps!

Anyone please correct me if I got anything wrong!
