ACCEPTED YESTERDAY! best day of my life. OHSU is definitely my number one choice. portland for life!

interviewed october 28.

also, ekirschn, try emailing lori toner at <[email protected]>. she is an admissions coordinator and is very helpful.

Wow it seems like there are a lot of people getting accepted outright...that's great! It seems like I am one of the few that got put on hold. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they say that the majority of applicants who get accepted come out of the hold pool? I thought they said that about 15% of the incoming class get an initial acceptance and the other 85% come out of the hold pool or off the waitlist. Can someone confirm/clarify this for me? - Thanks!

no you're right about those numbers. and as far as i know only myself and jgberken on sdn have been accepted. also, all of my friends are applying here and none of them have been accepted yet and 4 are on hold. so i think the numbers are still accurate. i just got lucky to interview with cynthia morris (asst dean of admissions) and we had a great talk! and i'm pretty sure with her position as asst dean her opinion holds a lot of weight which may be why i got an early decision. i'm also from oregon...

wow, all of your friends!!! you'll have a pre-established groupy to slide into - that'll be nice! I'm going to know folks in the year ahead and year behind but I don't know many applying this year.. soon enough! Looking forward to it!

Just got my e-mail as well... "Hold" unfortunately...

When do we find out our number for the waitlist?

Oh, and congrats too, obviously doubleE! 👍 🙂 W2G

two things:

1) i'm sorry, redlemond, that i didn't note your acceptance among sdn'ers. congrats. so i guess there are at least three of us, which is awesome!

2) not all of my friends. but all of them that are applying to med school applied here... don't know how many will end up here though. and if you don't have a built in group of friends in our class you are welcome to join mine. hey, if you're in the portland area maybe we should grab a drink and discuss all this madness!

When do we find out our number for the waitlist?

Not for a long, long time...as in very late spring/early summer. OHSU waits until all interviews have been conducted before creating a ranked waitlist. I also want to stress that being on hold is not the same thing as being on the waitlist. There is a chance that applicants on hold will be reviewed again later and accepted before the waitlist is created. However, it is also possible (but less likely) that some may be reviewed later and ultimately rejected. So for now, hold just means that you are still in the running somewhere.

On the up side, OHSU does keep track of its waitlist on their website, so if you end up on it, you can check as compulsively as you like to see how many people have been accepted from the waitlist pool.

And congrats DoubleE on your acceptance! Hopefully I'll see some of you guys here next year!

Congrats on the acceptance! I'm from Portland as well (going to school down here at OSU)...hope to be in your shoes in a few months!

good luck! let me know when you're here for your interview and i'll come by and grab a coffee or something with you since you usually have a lot of downtime during interview day.

Woah!! Congrats DoubleE!! Thats awesome man!!

I've been calling 503-494-2998. I would email, but was unable to locate an address. Do you know what it is?

Have you been able to call during business hours? I think they're there from about 7:30am-4:30pm-ish, possibly out for lunch. Usually there's someone there to answer the phone, I think. Maybe try calling on a Monday or Friday, since the weeks they conduct interviews they interview Tuesday-Thursday. Best of luck!

I feel like they must send those complete e-mails in batches, because I was told I was complete on the phone on 10/24 and didn't get the "complete" e-mail until today...

yeah i dunno, i emailed them a few days ago and i was hoping that prompted it 🙂

Seems likely - I also got a complete email today, after submitting my secondary on 10/25.

Maybe we're sent as a batch to the Admissions Committee too..

They cashed my check on 10/23 but besides that I haven't heard anything from them. I pretty sure I have everything in though. Do you guys think I should call?

1) CONGRATULATIONS doubleE! That's awesome!

2) Congrats to all those with recent interviews, too!

3) As far as the numbers go, it's pretty close to what was said: about 15% of people interviewed get an automatic acceptance, and almost everyone else gets put on hold till May. In May they accept a few more, reject some, and put many people on the waitlist. I would say about 50% of my class got an automatic acceptance, and 50% came off the waitlist. So, about 1/3 of people who interview end up getting accepted! These are just rough estimates. It used to be that 50% ultimately got accepted, but in the last couple years with increased competition, I feel like that number's decreasing.

thanks to everyone for the congratulations! i really appreciate it!

i just wanted to let all other ohsu hopefuls know that i work up here, so when you interview let me know and i'll meet up with you for coffee or something during your day. there can be a lot of downtime on interview day (i had 4 consecutive hours where i wasn't doing anything so i actually went in and did a half day of work!). so if you are bored i'm happy to meet up and talk with you about ohsu and maybe tell you some things that the admissions committee people won't (all good things, mind you!). so... just PM me if you're gonna be up here 🙂

congrats to you doubleE!

man, my #1 choice... c'mooon pull through!

I just got an interview here yesterday. It's on the 17th of December. I was completed Nov 1st. Anyone have any advice that's already interviewed here?

Whoa! An invite for an interview date less than 2 weeks away? That's awesome! :luck:

I'm still waiting for a "complete" e-mail . . . I submitted in mid-Nov., so it sounds like I'll be in the next "batch" . . . whenever that is! I would love, love, love some love from this school, though! :xf:

Hey congrats on the interview! I found the SDN interview feedback section very helpful. In fact, I wasn't asked anything outside the scope of the most common questions mentioned on there plus talking about my own resume/ECs. That's really all you can do anyway - and know something about healthcare in Oregon. There's no way you can predict all the questions, so just relax and enjoy it. And get some serious sleep the night before - drug yourself if you have to! You want to be able to think clearly.😉 (If you've had other interviews so far - probably none of what I just said was useful!!) But, best wishes! Knock 'em dead!

I was reading up on the Oregon Health Plan and had some questions for my interviewers at OHSU...nobody knew anything!! OHSU doesn't seem to policy oriented so if you're crammed on time, I wouldn't worry about that

Huge congratulations to those of you who have been accepted. I'm from oregon (although living in CA for the last few years and am now a CA resident) and interviewed at ohsu last month. It is one of my top choices, which I tried to convey in my interviews. I was wondering, for those of you who were accepted, did you send letters of interest after you interviewed? I'm wondering if I should do that. Thanks!

I did, yes. :luck:

I know. I was surprised about the interview dates available so soon.

Hey doubleE, I'm assuming that when you say you work up "here" you mean at OHSU. If not disregard this message. I also work at OHSU, but out at the West Campus, not up on the hill. Did they know you worked there, and did they ask you anything specific about OHSU. I don't know much about the University since I work out at the Primate Center and am not connected to the Hill much.

says applicants should hear within 12 weeks. Has anyone had to wait for longer than 12 weeks?

I sent thank-you notes to my interviewers, I wouldn't call them "letters of interest" exactly.... but definitely not a bad idea.

I'm getting there. They've had mine for 10 weeks (complete on 9/26) and I still haven't heard anything.

It took 9 weeks for me.

and no word. Guess I'll have to wait a couple more and then double check that they have everything they need.

i didn't send any thank you notes or an LOI. i ran into cynthia morris the other day and thanked her in person... but that was after the acceptance.

yeah, i work on the hill. they definitely knew that i worked there because it's all over my application (i've had several positions up here over the last few years).

they won't ask you anything about ohsu as an institution on the whole. it'd definitely fair game to ask you about the med school program though- particularly the typical "why here?" question. but you should obviously already know the answer to that one since you applied here. that said- good luck!

I was complete 10/29/08 but still haven't received a "complete" email yet- should I be worried? I was waiting patiently because I know it's been taking a long time for others...eeek.

I think you need to wait more patiently ... I just received the complete email today and they received my application on 9/28/08 and cashed my check shortly thereafter. The email states, "Your file is complete and is currently being screened in the interview selection process. " Perhaps they don't send you the email until they start to actually review your file? The email also stresses the high volume of applications, in other words, "don't call us, we'll call you!" Given how long it took for mine to come, I wouldn't worry just yet.

Sorry if this has been covered ad nauseam (i'm too groggy to read through threads) but for those of you who got interviews, how long after your completion notice did you receive your invite?

Four and a half weeks.
