Alternate List Watch: The incoming class of 2008 has matriculated. There will be no further movement on the alternate list."

I'm hoping that this is stale information from last year? It seems odd that a post from 2008 is still up. Could it be that they meant 2009? Hope not!

Any comments?

Once OHSU starts accepting people from the waitlist, they update their site regularly with respect to how many waitlisted people they have taken. I remember seeing this page last summer and it said something along the lines of, "so far, we have accepted up through #50 on the waitlist". I'm sure that this page will be updated soon to reflect the data for the class matriculating this fall.

A quick question for you guys who are reapplicants:

I have no acceptances at this point yet, but am still waiting on 2 schools (waitlisted at UCSD, hold pool at OHSU). So, my question is: how long should I wait before I reapply?

I really don't want to have to drop $800 on primary apps again if I will be getting in this year. And it doesn't sound like I'd be hearing back before June 1, unless some miracle occurs.

What do you guys think?

Sorry PowerButton.
That sucks.
I get the sense (from OHSU's site last year) that on May 15th you'll have a number of where you are on the waitlist and you should use that to better inform your decision.
My understanding is that it is a huge advantage to apply early, but that June 1st and June 15th are about the same. From what I've heard, do it before the 4th of July long weekend rush (lots of people submit then and it's the first big AMCAS delay time).
$800 is a lot of money, but if it's a necessary cost you don't want to mess up your chances for next year trying to save it. consider it part of the ridiculous part of med school cost and just pay it.

My advice to you is: if you want to reapply, decide whether or not you want to reapply immediately.

If you're willing to wait a year, and make significant improvements to your application, then you'll stand a better chance, and you can let the pressure off, and wait to hear back from UCSD & OHSU.

If you want to reapply immediately, then submit your primary now--you only have to select one school to start--just get your primary approved. It's easy to add schools on later (or at least, it was when I applied three years ago). Then you can drop $100 on the primary and submit to just one school, and if you don't get into school this year, go back and add all the other schools--those requests get approved pretty quickly.

I just got the hold email today, interviewed April 9th. Hooray for non-rejection, boo to continued waiting!

I am in the EXACT same boat (same interview and hold notice dates!) (Aquadoc, I was the one with the art history background 😀).

Go team hold! :xf::luck: May 15th cannot come soon enough! 😱

Yes, that was from last year's 2008 entering class. If you think about it, it wasn't actually thaaat long since they finished with their waiting list...fall 2008. But yes, they are a bit slow about things around here. I continue to be annoyed that their stats are super old, but oh well.

You know, I just looked at the stats--I think they've actually been updated. I think they used to interview 450+ and now they're at 530. And the class size was changed to 115 just for the current first years. So I would say the stats are (finally) up to date!

DrB, so this year the class size will be 120 again? That would be cool. Even 120 is comparatively small to most classes, but every spot helps.

I apologize if I'm just missing this information somewhere, but could anyone post about the class schedule/hrs usually spent in class for MSII? Is it similar to first year (8am-12pm or so)? Thanks in advance!

I think i saw a post about this before, but for the life of me can't find it again.

What is the reply time for an acceptance offer (should one be awesome / lucky enough to recieve one)? If i remember is gets to be 24 hrs at a certain point in the summer

What, historically, has the waitlist movement rate been? X places / week or something like that...

Hate to be a downer.... I got the impression class size would remain similar to 2008, if not a tad smaller 🙁 I interviewed on one of last dates (early April) and the woman who gave our morning talk touched upon the aforementioned budget woes. She emphasized maintaining committments and standards but did mention class size could be a potential way to cut some costs -- although, obviously, nothing was final....
Booooooo

Yes that was my impression as well. 115 matriculants, or thereabouts.

Jen and Bubbles - thanks for your guys' advice.

It's just extremely annoying how ridiculous the overlap between app cycles is.

I apologize for being misleading. Yeah, I second rvqueen--I haven't heard anything about the class size going up again. It actually costs about $75,000/yr to educate each student. In-state tuition is about half that, and out-of-state is almost 2/3 that, so I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed around 115.

Sure, my pleasure. I love it here, so anything I can do to help, I enjoy doing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like what you're getting at is that OHSU gets the same criticisms every year about their app cycle and doesn't seem to be addressing them. Although...I think this is the earliest they're finishing reviewing all the interviewees and getting back to them in a while. (I know of people who interviewed the first week of April who have already heard back--that's four weeks post interview at the end of the season. So, maybe they are working on it, but it doesn't sound like they're changing their system; only their efficiency.

Hopefully what that means for you is that the waitlist numbers will come out as close to May 15th as possible; ours didn't come out till June 6, but our year they were a bit behind their usual 8 ball.

Anyhow, Congrats to everyone accepted so far, and best of luck to everyone waiting!

Do you remember if everyone on hold found out their status on May 15th? Like if they were accepted, waitlisted, or rejected?

Oh geez! . . . I didn't even think that the waitlist info could come out later than May 15th 😱😱 They seemed very definite about that date on my interview day . . . did everyone else get that impression??

Adcom was almost done reviewing all apps two weeks ago. Acceptances, rejections, and waitlist numbers will be given out the week of the 15th, which means we could(and probably will) hear back before the 15th. However, the ~200 who recieve rejections after being in the hold pool will get a letter through snail mail. Acceptances and waitlist numbers are sent through email. I wouldn't be surprised if we're contacted around the 12th or 13th.

I actually was not criticizing the OHSU process specifically; it was more of a general comment about being waitlisted and having the next cycle start while on the waitlist.

But I am looking forward to hearing from OHSU. Hopefully.

Any idea why OHSU (and maybe other schools) wait until the 15th if they're already done reviewing? Is it because it makes their job easier since people with acceptances have to choose one school by May15th? Unfortunate for those of us still waiting....

I got the impression that OHSU is finishing scoring/reviewing the last of the applicants this week(probably today actually). That's why I think we'll hear something mid next week(15th is the absolute latest).

I agree--when I applied, OHSU set deadlines, and attempted to meet them. But they were more just guidelines for deadlines. They seemed to release their letters and decisions once they had them completed.

Also, they have to let you know by May 15th, if you're accepted, waitlisted, or rejected--that's when applicants have to narrow down their choices to reserve a spot at only one school. It's the *rules.*

I'm hopeful you'll hear sooner than May 15th.

:luck: to those still on hold--really like this school--just too pricey in the end to justify given my rural career aspirations.

Has anyone else been having acceptance email/rejection letter dreams? I can't even stop thinking about it at night!

Ya...I've def had a couple of those...last week of waiting, hopefully🙂

So they're sending out emails to the wait listed and accepted? That's confusing and stressful if you don't get an email at some point this week!

I'm guessing acceptances are sent out via e-mail like they have been for this current cycle. But I was looking at the thread from last year and it sounds like the waitlist is sent out as a letter telling you your rank and whether or not you would like to stay on the waitlist. But again this was last year. I have no idea whats in store for us this year. Best of luck to everyone!! Its gonna be one intense week!!

p.s. They sent out the waitlist letters on the 12th of May last year. So some were receiving letters on the 13th. But again, this was last year...🙄

To attempt to alleviate the waiting jitters, I asked the admissions staff about what's going down. They said they will be ranking the hold pool this week, and send e-mails out to accepted and waitlisted candidates on or a day before May 15. The bottom of the hold pool will be rejected and will get a snail mail letter. They also said they don't look at any update letters or things you send after your interview date. That's really too bad! I know some other schools will at least look at that stuff, some even encourage it. But then again, they are overwhelmed and might not feel such items bear weight?

Thanks for doing that for us medipost! It's nice to have an idea of whats to come this week. Good luck everyone!!

thanks a lot medipost: this certainly takes some pressure off.

Thanks medipost. Here's hoping that those of us still waiting get a [ Inbox(1) ] sometime this week!

congratulations! That's good news for you. I just got an e-mail from admissions, I got waitlisted. Does anybody know how far the waitlist progressed last year, and the year before that? And any guesses on how far it might go this year...?

childoftheatom - are you ranked too?

mind - congrats, i'm super jealous

did they tell you where you are on the waitlist? My inbox is so silent 😳( I wonder if they are going to do them in phases....

Hey child, from what I saw on last years thread they went up to #57 on the waitlist. I'm not sure on the year before but I believe they went a little higher 70s I think, but don't quote me on that. I would guess if youre under #60 on the waitlist you have a decent shot. A few years ago they got up in the 90s so you never know. Good luck!! Plus if you don't mind me asking where were you ranked??

Yup, they gave me a rank. I'm number 31. The next couple weeks are going to be killer, watching that alternate list.

I would be feeling great if i got a 31. way to go man (person?)!!! hopefully i'll get a number very simlar (or lower would be cool...)

i hope they're not rolling them out in order....

so the WL is out....?

i guess this does not bode well for those of us who don't have e-mails.

Best of luck everyone! I'm sure I'll be seeing some of you as classmates this year! I'm super excited for this fall and can't wait to meet ya'll!

P.S Check your junk email for OHSU admissions stuff. EVERYTHING they sent me went straight to my junk mail and I use gmail. Just FYI.

aww- i'm waitlisted....
#130- yuck.

Those are some crazy numbers and don't seem altogether in order...do they email in alphabetical order perhaps?

Still hopeful for that possible email...

Yikes, is everyone receiving e-mails today? When did people get their emails? This isn't looking good.

hey reezer, did you just get the e-mail within the last few minutes or so?
i'm sorry the number isn't lower, i saw you went through this before. do you have other acceptances lined up in case?
