Well, its possible that I'll get it later. Just annoyed because I thought I already had it.

No Fresno love man. well i feel better, you havn't got a secondary yet, so theres no way me not getting one yet means rejection😳.

goodluck :luck:, see you in a few weeks..... (PS where the **** is the dream you promised me, us sitting back, talkin about how many interviews we gotten...🙄...I knew you were full of ****😡)

I just got it this afternoon and wished I had jsut been screened out. Now I feel obligated to complete it.....

Lol, we'll be sitting back and talking about interviews once we're done with these stupid secondaries. School starts again soon enough, and I expect both of us to be done before then.

Of course, with how I procrastinate, who knows if I'll have them done before October >.<

well...i havent gotten it either. i'm glad that someone with stats as pretty as yours hasnt gotten it. it just means they havent gotten around to sending the secondary to everyone yet. i'm sure youre going to get it.

Hey kids, congrats to all of you who have received secondaries for UCSD!! It is my school of choice as well, and I plan to apply next year, and seeing all of you go through the process is already giving me butterflies.

I know it is posted here somewhere, but after 40 minutes of searching and sifting I haven't been able to find an adequate answer,so I guess I will just ask. Does anyone have a semi-concrete idea of what the minimum bar is for a UC secondary, especially UCSD? Or would any of you who don't have MDapplicants profiles attached to your nickname on SDN be willing to post your stats or PM me your stats so I can have a little bit better of an idea what I am going for? The MSAR can be so unhelpful when I see posts on here that are contradictory. Thank you all so much!

Well, judging from who's getting the secondaries and who is still waiting, I'd say things aren't terribly predictable. You can look at my MDApps if you want an idea of my stats (my gpa is between a 3.0 and a 3.5, by the way), and I've gotten a secondary. So yeah. Who knows?

They probably give the 3.0-3.5 (i'm one of them) a chance to prove themselves, but the MSAR shows that the people who actually get in are the high scores people...

I had a few friends who were half way between 3.0-3.5 and the ones that got the UCSD interviews generally had an MCAT of 35+

Aye, right now its pretty much a crapshoot it looks like. (Not to sound arrogant but...) My stats should be enough to qualify me for any secondary, but I haven't received UCSD yet. We'll see if there's any sort of trend of who gets it within the next few months. Maybe they just hate people from Fresno State...

My MCAT is 35, if that helps. I also went to an undergrad notorious for grade deflation, I'm Hispanic (FWIW), and am a writer so I'm sure my PS was pretty good. I also have a pretty unusual background, so it's possible that they just want to read my autobiography 😀. On the other hand, I'm totally not expecting to get past this step.

welcome to med school applications 🙂

The thing about UCSD, that a lot of people don't know about, is even if you get waitlisted for an interview or an acceptance, you can write in a petition to have your files re-evaluated one more time by the commitee. However this is a one shot deal and you better have a good reason for them to do so (i.e. if you had low grades, this is your chance to send them a letter explaining why they are low and why you are still a strong candidiate because of your grades). I've heard many cases where the petition didn't work, but I also know a few cases where it did work. Really it's a chance for you to say, "hey you guys didn't realize I'm actually a very good candidiate becuase....."

so stressful. my app is complete, but i wonder how long it will take before i hear back..... it sucks to feel like you aren't "competitive", if you know what i mean.

I heard that if your essay is shorter than 5000 char or longer than 9000, you are less competitive?

I heard that if your essay is shorter than 5000 char or longer than 9000, you are less competitive?

... joke?

I highly doubt that the adcoms will be reading these on a computer (eye strain), much less make the effort to count how many characters you use.

They are a first-tier medical school. If they built their classes of future physicians based on such idiotic and ungrounded criteria, there's no way they would be... so I'd say not true... offhand.

My ex was from Fresno...I went to UCSD....and sadly....you are correct sir😉 We used to call it "The Fres".....it is on par with "The 909" to the narrow-minded.
But your stats are awesome, and so is your profile icon🙂

From the interview invite thread, the turnaround was pretty fast (1-2 days), but I've been complete almost a week now =(

I guess as long as there's no date under "hold for interview" or "final decision letter sent," we can still dream.

you guys the secondary is really not that bad....once you get into talking about yourself it actually becomes kind of fun.

best wishes to everyone!

Yeah...I still haven't heard back yet either but I figured it's because I applied MSTP but who knows....the people who did get interviews seemed to have great stats.

Hey waterlilly,

First off, I think you have a great shot at MSTP with your research experience.

also, I noticed you submitted 7/28 and were complete 7/30. How did your payment get there so fast, and when did you request your letters to be sent?

Thanks!

Thanks. I think this whole process just makes me so unsure about myself...

Anyways, I sent in my LOR via virtualeval and my check the same day I recieved the secondary invite. I do this with every school because I have to prevent myself from backing out and stuff. lol. Good luck to you. The lady, Sonia, in charge of the apps is really really nice. She even emailed me when I submitted to inform me that she didn't have my check but that afternoon, she emailed again to tell me I'm complete.

so i submitted my application n forgot to jot down the payment information, can anyone tell me who to make the check out to? i believe it is UC Regents. Also where do I send it? sorry about this. thanks

Come on! College World Series Champions!!!

I got that email too, but no confirmation. Haha, I would've sent an email telling them the check was on the way, but I think they got the message when it showed up later that day. UCSD's admissions office is really on top of things though 👍 Now if only I could get them to grant me an interview...

Hey..so this is part of the answer I got in an email to a question:

Our first interviews will begin September 22, 2008 and run to end of March, 2009. In regards to your secondary application, if it is complete than allow us at least 4 weeks for review. Interview invitations will be sent by email three weeks in advance or from the scheduled interview date.

I don't see how they expect me to wait that long. Patience is not a pre-med virtue

Read your mdapplicants profile just now. So sorry about your mom. Any school who doesn't completely empathize with/for you isn't worth going to.

Best of luck to you!

Will they send me an e-mail if (by the grace of God) I get an interview? I didn't get an e-mail when my application was complete, I just happened to check my chance.
Do I have to keep checking obsessively or will they end my suffering and let me know?

I spoke with Brian Zeglen, the Director of Admissions during spring semester in 2007 (he visited UC Berkeley and gave a presentation). Back then, he informed me that out of the ~2000 secondaries they give, ~1000 are automatic if you meet a specific GPA/MCAT combination (his example was ~3.7 GPA and 30 MCAT, it could be inaccurate or too generous) and the rest of the secondaries are given after consideration of the entire primary application.

I actually found what I think was his exact presentation on the UCLA Career Center website (too big to attach). Google "brian zeglen" and it should be one of the first links on the page. It's kind of old (describes the entering 2005 or 2006 class), but I think it's still helpful.

i wouldnt say it is completely non-negotiable. i had an interview already scheduled on the day ucsd offered me last year. i was able to move it. the ucsd admissions staff is very nice and they will actually give you a straight answer, go figure.

Dude, thank you so much for that.....it actually led me to the ASL Fellow program that I didn't know they had, so thank you!

Ohhhh mannnn.... This secondary took such a long time. I didn't think writing about my life would be so tricky. I'm glad I got this done
