Hello all,

We've just started organizing our housing host and clinic tour lists, so those databases should be up and running! Let me know if you received an interview invite but didn't get the login information for the host/clinic tour site. You can PM me if you have any questions about UCSD. Also, if you send an email via the UCSD site it'll probably go to me anyways. Can't wait to meet you!

I called today and the lady in charge (I forgot her name, Irene?) said that she was hoping to have the host info by tomorrow and mail it out then, so I dont think she has even sent that mass email to us yet.

Yvonne, probably. Hopefully you've gotten the login info by now. Someone already emailed me to request a host so I think things are working.

I wonder how it works. I thought they look at your app and decide to give you an invite or not, but for some that takes 3 weeks and for some 3 days? Shouldn't it take appx the same amount of time?

Maybe it is taking longer now, in Sept, to get interview invites than for those people that were complete in August because there are more apps too look at? I was complete in Sept, and I just noticed in August people were getting the invites after only a few days or being complete?

I wouldnt look too much into it. i remember my friend and i submitted our apps at roughly the same time, yet i got an interview offer 3 months before he did. we both got in.

I just got placed on hold 😡 What are my chances of getting an interview now? And is it appropriate to send a letter of interest and an additional LOR at this point?
 
I was also placed on hold. I am an out of state student that has no ties to CA. However, UCSD is my top choice school for a variety of reasons. What can I do to possibly increase my chances of getting an interview? And what are my chances?
 
i was completed relatively early,late august, I think
 
Apologies if this information already exists, I read through a few pages of the comments for this thread but 7 seemed excessive. Have any out-of-staters received a secondary invite? I was complete some time ago and nothing since then. If any OOSers have gotten a secondary, how long was the delay? Thanks.

me too jgberken!! i think they sent out a lot of their "hold" emais today. but HEY, at least we werent flat out rejected. I'm gonna call UCSD tomorrow to figure what this actually means.......is a hold basically a delayed rejection or is there a legitimate shot of being called for interview?

I was curious about the LOI as well but i feel it would be weird to ask the admissions staff if i should send them a LOI

Sucks, doesn't it ryserr? I think this is practically a rejection because you're either interviewed, or placed on hold 🙁 But I'm calling to ask about it tomorrow, too.

oh so they dont give flat out rejections?? Meh, oh well. It doesnt suck that badly, keep you head up. YOu konw you are a competitive applicant. You know you will end up somewhere, thats all that matters. Of course you'd rather get that interview, but dont sweat it, you are a competitive applicant (and so am I) and there will be schools that will take us, if in fact UCSD decides to reject us........its their loss!
 
Yeah...you're right! I was hoping to get a single UC interview...so far, no luck. But I guess we know this process involves rejections and we should just deal with it. 😀


UCSD is such a great school though! And it's always been one of my top choices! Oh well...

yea man you can never tell with the UCs. I'm sure youll get some love from one of them. Dont count yourself out of UCSD yet. Maybe we'll end up interviewing on the same day and we can laugh about it together. :luck:

Ugh. My AMCAS this year was verified around the same day as last year, my UCSD application was complete around the same day as last year, and now I get a hold around the same day as last year. It's starting to look like deja vu, unfortunately 🙁

Sorry, fizzle. Maybe the same adcom looked over all of our apps and was in a bad mood when he was doing it...so he decided to put us all on hold 😛
 
For those on hold, when were you complete?

Just wondering so I can have a timeline of when I might expect a similar result...
 
Hey everyone. I called UCSD today, and they said that if you interviewed two weeks prior to Tuesday October 21, a decision will definitely be made by 2pm on October 21.

20 days and counting!!!!!

Really...? They told us November 4th when I went to the interview last week. Did they really move it forward two weeks, or is that just when the committee is meeting to make decisions?

They told me the same thing when I interviewed, but they left it open ended as to whether Nov 4th was in stone. But, it has been moved up 2 weeks as of today. That's why I posted. It's very exciting! We can potentially be celebrating Halloween knowing that we're going to medical school.

Just a check - are you staying with a host? If so, oftentimes the host can provide transportation. If you have any questions about the hosting program, let me know!
 
I'm an OOS that also got placed on hold. They told me not everyone is put onto hold and that they look over the hold applications once a month. But the information on here seems contradictory. For those of you who also called, what were you told?

Psh...not everyone is put on hold because everyone else is invited for an interview. A hold is a bad thing; everyone who doesn't get an interview invite gets put on hold. No one actually gets notified of rejection until spring.

hey! yeah, i'm staying with a host, and she's being really nice and picking me up from the airport =), but she can't drop me off at the airport, so I was looking at options to get there. Is cab most common, or are there shuttles? Thanks! =D
 
Just turned in my UCSD secondary. Man I lagged so hard on this one because writing a 10,000 character autobiography is a total bitch.

Hmm... you could try www.supershuttle.com which will cost about $31. I'm not sure how people usually do it; I got a ride both ways. Actually, I could probably give you a ride if you wanted - it would be cool to meet you anyways! PM me if you're interested. I promise I wouldn't offer if I minded 🙂

Of those that did get invites, were any of you OOS, or were the majority of OOS people put on hold?
 
Just out of curiosity, how much did you guys write for the essay? This has been the hardest secondary for me to write...

Oh... The UCSF rejection and the UCSD hold both came yesterday. That was fun...

But hey! Dartmouth, Case Western, and Wash U all have granted me interviews... This process has no rhyme or reason to it.

I got one a couple weeks ago. I know it doesn't quite answer your question, but I'm still annoyed/frustrated that I've been put on hold for the second year straight. Bah 😡
