Scores should be coming in the next 7 to 14 days.

I'm feeling super duper nervous about my August PCAT results. 🙁

If you took the 2008 August PCAT, please feel free to share your thoughts.

Also, If you just received your score, please post your results here.🙂

I'm from Pittsburgh and I didn't my scores today either🙁 my mail didn't even come till after 5:30 pm and I got real excited, but nothing.

Hopefully Monday is the day then..I'm terribly sick of waiting!!!!!!

I got my scores...I did so so on it. I did well in Bio...88th percentile. Crappy in chem and math....62 percential. I am retaking it in october. If I do worse....what do schoolsdo? Do they look at the best one?

Ps: My over all composite is 77...is that bad?

I am extremely disappointed with my scores.

I have a Math degree from 2001 and was expecting to blow thru the math section but I ran outa time and didn't finish 15-20 questions. Made me sick at my stomach. I thought I did much much better on the Reading and Bio. I was expecting high 80's to low 90's on both. This was my first time to take the test but I'm taking it again in Oct. Dunno when I am gonna get to study. 🙁

lol bad guy, how far now? How are the apps going mehn...I just got my score and I didnt do well, mofact, I am almost as bad as cdhoward...which schools u think i shud apply to mehn, I'm loosing my mind, son.
Afar dey mosque dey count him tesbral.

Anyway, I took the PCAT last year. Stuff happened and I deferred till next fall. I don't know what schools you should apply to, because even when schools post average PCAT scores, that just means that they accept people with lower and higher PCAT scores also. Minnesota, for example, has average PCAT in the 80's (I think), but according to their website they accepted someone with a 19 PCAT.

To find which schools have average PCAT scores that are near your score, go to http://www.aacp.org/site/view.asp?TRACKID=&VID=2&CID=693&DID=9354

It has pages for all the pharmacy schools and the average PCAT scores of each school's first year class. Good luck to you, boda mi.

Verbal: 422: 81%
Biology: 502: 99% (500+ woohoo)

Quantitative: 415: 67%
Chemistry: 446: 94%
Composite: 434: 94%
Writing: 3/3

I'm happy and sad at the same time. My reading score is very disappointing. Will this hurt my chances for pharmacy schools? I understand that some schools have a subscore min., e.g. 25%+ or 50%+. Your answers are greatly appreciated.

I think I am in the same situation as you. This is my first time taking PCAT. Here are mine:
Verbal: 63
Biology: 98
Reading: 35 (oops)
Quanti: 87
Chem: 97
Composite: 91
Writing: 3.0/2.0

I think my only problem is the 35 in Reading, but I don't want to retake it, because UW and UMB are my first choices and I am still qualified for their interview criteria (UW requires >60 for Chem and >25 for other areas; UMB requires >80 composite and strong Bio, Chem and Quantitative). Do you guys think I have a shot? I live in Oregon btw... Thanks for any thoughts. (BS Biology; Cum GPA: 3.6; Sci/math: 3.46)

Hello all,

Okay so I was hoping to do much better but I got:

VA-72%
Bio-61%
RC-57%
Qnt-11%
Chm-53%
comp-49%

This was my first try. I need to get at least a 60 composite. I think I could bring my scores up in every subject fairly easy except math. I only studied for about 2 weeks before I took it so not too bad I guess... Which study guide is best for math b\c all I used was Kaplan's book and its terrible. Also anyone have a guess what my comp. would be if math were more in the 50's range??

my scores were really bad...

and theres no way i could have done that poorly

is there anyway i can get them to regrade it?

my scores are bad i guess...

Bio is 88
chem 67
verbal 30
reading 10...WTF
qant 60
comp is 48 % ...

my reading score is bad...what you guys think ..how i can improve😡

I think you're a shoo-in with your scores and stats. I mean you killed on the biology and chemistry portion not to mention your good science GPA. When you go to do the interview at Maryland, you'll have to write an essay in 30 minutes so if you write an excellent essay then most likely they'll ignore the reading/verbal part.

On a side note, how did you study for the Bio and Chem part? Do you have any tips or are you just naturally good there 😛?

Thanks a lot for your feedback. You boost my confidence a great deal.

As of my studying for PCAT, I studied Chem and Math mostly from Dr. Collins' packet. I must say it helped a lot in narrowing what i should focus on, and his practice exams were sometimes tougher than the real exams (i realized that after i had taken the test). I also reviewed some reactions and mechanisms in my Organic chem textbook. My Math score was a little dissapointing to me because it was always my best subject but i didnt do it so well. (I reviewed some Stat stuff in Kaplan too). As of Biology, I didnt study at all except doing Dr. Collins' practice exams (but i found them very easy), since Im a Bio major and my knowledge was still fresh.
Hope it helps.

You too! I think I would rather have your scores (not that it would make a difference haha).

Does anyone see PCAT scores in their PharmCAS? This is the first time I've received my scores before it showed up on PharmCAS. Making sure I did not mis-bubble my SSN.

ehh a 79 composite i'm so bummed out I was expecting at least 85+ but its competitive enough for about all the schools i'm applying except may be uga.

I've been observing everyone's scores and what's up with the frequent low reading comprehension scores?

Is the norm group we are getting compared to really good at reading or is our reading comprehension skills really weak, or could it be the test has gotten harder? maybe a little bit of everything?

I've heard many reading passages get re-used and test takers become familiar with the older passages and score extremely high the second time around. This might play a factor in explaining our low reading scores.

Some say the norm group has changed to a more recent group of test takers and if that's the case, then it's gonna be slightly harder to score high on the PCAT than before.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the norm group consists of first-time test takers.

I've only taken the test once, but I thought the reading was a lot harder than the sections on the Harcourt practice tests. I also thought that many of the answer choices were very similar to each other. IDK, reading comprehension was never my forte.

Can I have your brain lol? I'm taking the PCAT again in October and I'm so not looking forward to it. I did well in everything except Bio so I'm stressing out on what areas I should focus.

uhm, the reason I asked that was because i have seen posts from cdhoward since last yr and he has had the same signature since then and some of the schools he said he has applied to have not realeased their 09 applications yet. Ewu odeko, du see wat happens when people start answering questions not directed to them?

Now if u dont mind, can u let cdhoward pls tell me the schools he is applying for 09....thanks

Transformer was stating the "not so" obvious.

You speak like you know what a signature is, but in reality, you don't. The reason it seems like it is the same as last year is because that part of the post is the signature! The signature WILL change everytime I change it. Doesn't matter if it is my 1st post or my last post - all posts will change if I make a change.

some of the schools he said he has applied to have not realeased their 09 applications yet.

Not really sure to which school you are referring - all schools I am applying to for fall '09 admission have released their application...

Yea, all i can say is good luck to you on the October PCAT. I wish I could tell you what to focus on in Bio but I really dont know. I found that the Bio review in Kaplan is detailed enough for the test, so if i were you i would study Kaplan (but maybe you are studying Kaplan arent you?). Hope you dont stress out too much, and best of luck.👍

I think part of it is that there is not a lot of emphasis placed on reading comprehension in our secondary schools. Why do we have to read into what the author is saying anyway? Why not just say it instead of having the reader to assume what you mean? Anyway...

Also, the normal group has changed and it is comprised of 1st time test takers from (I'll try to do this from memory) October 2003 through June 2007. It is tougher to score higher. The proof is in my scores. The first time I took the test I scored a 55 composite which was a scaled score of 402. The first test I took after the normal group change was a 51 composite with a scaled score of 404. That's right, I answered more questions correctly, but my percentile score dropped.

Well, I guess I did better than June, lol. In June I got an 84 composite. This time, I got:

Verbal: 72 <--- WTF, I got a 95 last time
Biology: 66 <--- Last time got a 79, another stupid score
Reading Comp: 92 <-----Same as last time
Quantitative: 83 <-----Yes, absolutely wrecked it, I got a 26 last time!
Chemistry: 86 <-------Got a 78 last time, did better with orgo 1 done.
Composite: 86 <-------Well, got an 84 last time, at least it's improvement

Writing: 3/3 <-----I got 4's last time, that sucks!

Overall, I'm pissed that my verbal wasn't high nineties again! I could have had a 90's comp! Oh well.

Verbal 48 (I knew I bombed it - my vocab is terrible)
Biology 98 - my strongest ability for sure
Reading 84 - surprised, I thought I bombed it as well
Quant 96 - I thought I would get a 99% it was so easy
Chemistry 92 - Thought I would score higher here as well
Composite 94 - Satisfied,

Conv. of Lang. 3.0
Prob. Solving 3.0 - English/Writing is definitely not my thing.

Verbal 99 - Other kids were playing sports or playing with girls, suckers. I was reading. Not surprised.
Biology 96 - Surprising, thought I did 80s level.
Reading 95 - What I expected.
Quant 75 - About what I thought. Math is my nemesis.
Chemistry 76 - About what I thought. Way more Gen Chem that I had anticipated.
Composite 96 - Surprised. I assume it's a mistake.

Yea, all i can say is good luck to you on the October PCAT. I wish I could tell you what to focus on in Bio but I really dont know. Thanks for your advice. I think I was unlucky when I took the June PCAT. I studied the Kaplan book but on the PCAT they decided it'd be fun to throw in a bunch of animal and plant physiology questions which weren't really discussed in the Kaplan book so yeah sad Bio score. Anyway I hope your applications are going well. Maybe I'll see you next year at UMB as a fellow pharmacy student!

My scores, they are good enough. My school needs a 70.

Verbal: 68 - This is a shocker, I felt like I did excellent, apparently not.
Biology:76 - Good enough, that's up from a shocking 40
Reading:75 - Would have been higher, had a brain meltdown.
Quant A:83 - Finally a good math score after getting 40 in it twice.
Chemistry:67 - Dissapointed, down from a 83..
Composite:77

I am happy enough, wont retake. Its funny cause I tried to focus on the sections that I did bad on and had great improvements, but at the expense of my other subjects.

Verbal: down from 75
Chem: Down from 83
Math: Up from 41
Bio: up from 40

I think these are right. Someone read it to me over the phone. I wonder if that quant score is worth retaking the test if my composite is above average for schools I'm applying to? Any thoughts?

Congrats to everyone!

I just got my scores yesterday and was wondering if this would be a competitive score to apply to University of Florida.

I consider my composite to be fairly good considering a 37 👎 chemistry. I will be studying chemistry non stop for the next 3 weeks. Of course I'm in Orgo I right now, so that will help!!!!!!!! Any suggestions?

Also, I have the Mcat Audio Osmosis cd's to study by while I'm working, and I'm taking off the week before the test to do nothing but practice tests. Any other suggestions?

I'm really frustrated right now. My scores reflect the opposite of how I felt I did on the test.

Even though I still suck at reading, I like my scores better this time cause I completely improved in Biology and Chemistry. My school just started requiring the PCAT (Duquesne University in Pgh, PA) and they said 400 (seemingly low i know) composite score would be competitive. I think I might not take again in Oct even though I already signed up for it. I don't really have a lot of time to study, I just feel I might waste my time at this point.

Wow! You did really well!! Congrats, how did you study and is this your first time taking the PCAT?

Thanks. This was my first time.

As for studying, I started about 2 months before the test date. I studied maybe 2 hours a day, but that was during my internship so there were quite a few distractions. 😀

I mainly used the Kaplan book as sort of a text book. I just read over it once without taking notes or highlighting, and that took maybe 3 weeks in total? Then I got a Peterson's MCAT book from my local library and used that for the biology and chemistry sections. I found the chemistry in that book to be much more thorough than in the Kaplan book, especially for organic.

So reading all the material took about 5 weeks, and I spent the following weeks doing practice tests. Again, I used the Kaplan book, which was good practice. I also took a Kaplan practice PCAT that they offered at a testing center, which I used to see what scores I would get in a real testing environment. I also used Barron's (too easy), Cliffs (mainly for vocab practice, didn't look at chem/bio/reading because I was lazy 😀), and Harcourt's 2 practice exams.

After a few practice tests, I realized how little I knew about anatomy and physiology (because I haven't taken those classes yet), so I got some review books by Schaum's and Cliffs. I also got a calc review book because I haven't had a real math class in 4 years.

It sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. I avoided sections that weren't heavily tested, such as plant biology. I didn't really prep for verbal or reading because for those, either you know it or you don't, and I wasn't going to memorize word lists that probably won't appear on the real test. I didn't practice writing at all (lazy again). Chemistry was really easy for me because I had just finished organic in school, and I've had like 4 years worth of general chem (Chem Honors in HS, Chem AP in HS, an outside Chem AP prep class, and general chem in college). Same for bio -- I had Bio in HS, self-studied Bio AP, and gen bio/mobio/biochem in college. I just needed to learn A&P and some micro. Math is a subject that kinda comes naturally to me, so I just needed to refresh on some calc. A lot of people say that the QA section has really weird questions, but none of them seemed confusing to me. I mean, there were questions that I flat out didn't know (i.e. integration by parts, which I didn't study), but for those you can work backwards (derive each solution).

Hope this helps. PM me if you want.

I actually felt really bad coming out of the pcat, but surprisingly my score went up 4 points! Im still trying to break a 90 though (i've signed up for the October 18th date).

Verbal: 77
Biology: 71 (I actually wanted to improve this since I had a 79 before...kinda bummed)
Reading: 63 (I have issues with verbal and reading...hah)

finally came in today:

pretty mediocre in my opinion, was hoping for low 90s or somewhere in the 80s at least.

i had studied for a few months, then lost some steam heading into the test. october's pcat is now less than a few weeks away and i've got to start studying again in addition to other classes now.

good luck to everyone in october.

just got my scored. Im crying. Its so low its not funny anymore. Whats the chance of me getting into pharmacy school with scores lower than 40 percentile?

Thank u so much for those words of encouragement GatorRomp..🙂.yes i hv finally gained some courage and have decided to take the test again in January.

My only regret was not being able to take the Harcourt Practice test...since my computer was messed up for a while.

Sorry for your setback. But if you want it so much, pick up where you left off and know you have two more tries in October and January (if the schools you're interested in accept Jan PCAT).

Start reviewing key stuff in the PCAT book like Neuroscience, endocrine, muscle contractions, respiration, genetics, digestion and excretion. We all may agree that the PCAT does not test as much on plants; not enough to cause you to worry if you are strong on the others. A bit of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria and some bacteria and virus; autotroph, chemoautotroph and heterotroph are all important to know. Don't waste your time studying stuff that seems to simple like what are mitochondria or photosynthesis.

In math, focus on log, basic probabilities and stats, a bit of definite integrals, a bit of trigonometry (recognize trigonometric graphs), composite functions and word problems. You won't find simple derivative questions, but you'll use it to solve definite integral type problems.

In Chemistry, don't focus on lots of calculations for your preparation as there are practically very few. Instead, focus on conceptual problems. Again, interpreting graphs, knowing obviously some basic chemistry like stoichiometry, chemical kinetics and equilibrium, solutions, acids and bases and particularly SN1, SN2 and anti Markovnikov's rule and Markovnikov's rule and obviously name organic compounds and the functional groups.

Reading, vocabulary and writing, well you can't prepare for these within the span of a few months. These are accrued knowledge and thus it would be beneficial if you read and wrote a fair amount over the years. Having said that, start doing research about controversial topics not only in healthcare but social problems as well; this will benefit your essays. Read critically first and then attempt the questions. There is probably more mastery of the topic by the time you tackle the questions.

Again take courage!

Got my scores today (I live in Auburn, Al). This was my first time taking it. Could have been better, but I am still satisfied overall:

Verbal 422/81
Bio 426/85
Reading 404/52 (like many others, I thought I did better than this and was surprised by my score)
Quant 425/80
Chem 429/84

I have a 3.96 GPA (3.94 Science) as well as work experience, so hopefully I should be able to get in, especially since Auburn isn't as competitive as some of the other schools.

Hope those who have yet to receive their scores do soon! Waiting for them is awful.

My scores:

Biology: 85
Reading: 35😕
Quantitative: 87

What do you guys think... should i take the pcat again?

Got my scores today...long wait lol...this was my first time taking it, scored better than expected overall, but was surprised with the reading n verbal sections.

Reading 404/52😕
Quant 425/80
Chem 432/86

conventions of language/problem solving: 3/2.5 (not the best at writing)

I have a overall 3.52 GPA w/ 3.56 in science and 3.25 in Math (freshman forgiveness was averaged 🙁)

Is this competitive or should I retake the PCAT??? I only studied for 1 week for this PCAT, if I take the next one in January, might get more time to study.
