I know someone at Baylor and he said they shut down for three weeks for their summer vacation, but I don't know if that includes the admissions committee. I think he said last week of July, and first 2 weeks of Aug. It has been pretty quite.

I wonder what they are waiting for then b/c I know of only one person (predents) that has an interview with Houston; I'm sure there're more. I just thought that I would for sure hear back from Houston by now. On the bright side, at least they haven't REJECTED me.

I applied before with a really poor GPA and was rejected. Baylor was pretty quick in their reply (January) compared to Houston and San Antonio who didn't reply until late spring. March for San Antonio and May for Houston. I kept the letters as motivation... Of course, I already knew I wasn't getting in by January because I hadn't interviewed by Dec 1st. I almost wish they would send rejection letters early, like I have read on SDN for some of the other schools, so I could think about some out of state schools.

Also, does anyone know how the acceptance procedure works? I assume that each school offers seats to some of the same students. So is it a first come first seated thing? After you get your letter do you have to decide ASAP so your seat isn't taken?
 
I know as far as Baylor went they said they had 95 spots last year and sent out 100 acceptance letters. They assume that at least 30 people wiill choose an alternative school. Those people who did get multiple offers have three of four weeks from december 1st to choose one. Then the schools send out there second offers
 
Hey guys, i just had my SA interview today. It went very well (I think). For the most part all the previous interview feedback that is posted on that forum is accurate. I wasnt really asked alot of questions, you basically do the talking, asking questions of the interviewer. The student interviewer was really down to earth and we just had a conversation. My advice is try to relax and dont stress out too much about this interview. The faculty that I interviewd with was very comforting and it was a pleasure talking with them. Good luck to those interviewing on the 13th!! If you have any specific questions, just post and ill do my best to answer them.

svlosich, do you remember about when you received interview invites last year? i know it seems like people with super high GPAs and DAT scores from the formula are getting the first ones like you mentioned earlier... did you submit early last year too?

I submitted my app in September and recieved invitation from Baylor Dec 1. and Houston Jan 22. So I'm hoping since I was in the very first batch I'll be getting an interview soon.

Looking at predents.com it doesnt look like they are only interviewing the super high GPAs and DAT first. I dont think they are basing everything on stats for the first ones to get invited.
 
Anybody applying to Texas know when schools will be sending out invites for interviews again or know why the recently sudden decline in invites for interview? What's up with Houston? Why are they not inviting more people? Do they start later or someting? Geez!

Its possible that they only send out invites a certain number of weeks before the interview date, say, two or three weeks before the interview date. This would be better for them - for example, let's say that they send me an invite in august for an interview in october or november. By the time that interview rolls around, there are a couple of months worth of applicants (who might be better than myself) whose applications the schools have received. The schools would like to then give those better applicants interviews but can't because I am occupying the interview spot. This system (delaying invites until a couple of weeks before the actual interview) allows for a more dynamic interview roster.
 
So I know everyone says they'll go to any school that accepts them but if you had a choice where would you go?
1.Baylor 2. SA 3.Houston

I would have to agree... 1.) Baylor (because its got a better simulation lab NOW then Houston and I like Dallas more then San Antonio) 2.) San Antonio (because its a GREAT school and San Antonio is still cool) 3.) Houston (because I heard it just looks old) I'd still be greatful to just get into anywhere though! They're all good schools.
 
how long did it take the ada to send yalls dat scores? I took my dat about 2 weeks ago and i am looking for a way to check up on this... is there somewhere to look online or someone to call?

I took mine July 5 and most all of my schools got them on the 19nth (exactly two weeks). I'm pretty sure this is how it works with everybody. You can call ADA if you want to see if there are any problems.
 
So the list of schools I planned to apply to has changed since registering for the DAT. Do I have to send the scores to all the individual schools not listed now??

How does TMDSAS calculate your GPA? Do they use your transferred grades, too? The thing is I'm taking some random non-science courses at CC this summer to fulfill my graduation requirements... I got Bs in 2 (as of right now) of them.. I'm a full time student at a 4 yr university, btw... So on my university transcript, it will show the classes that I took at CC... (and the grades too?! i'm not sure...).. Do the TMDSAS people use the grades that I got at CC and calculate my overall GPA? Or do they not use those grades because they're for transferred courses from CC?

tmdsas will require the transcript from you cc...and yes, they will use it to calculate your overall gpa; they will have an overall, science, and non-science...it will also be categorized by semester/classification in school

I have offically changed my choice of schools to #1 San Antonio and #2 Baylor. I loved the school and really love the area around the school. I'll be disappointed if I don't get accepted to San Antonio.

I spoke with Baylor today and was told that they look at your science DAT scores more than any of the other scores when considering who to invite. Also, make sure that if you say you are going to retake the DAT that you let them know if that changes. I was told my file was on hold pending new DAT scores because I listed reataking it in Aug it in my app.
 
Does anyone know the statistics for Interviews versus Acceptances for Baylor?
 
These are the stats for the class just starting at San Antonio 2007.

3.73 Overall GPA
3.58 Science GPA
20AA DAT

Again very high.

Like I said in the review, I don't feel like the faculty interview went as well as I hoped. In hind site I would have rather had a group interview, that way I knew all of the app committee would be able to get to know me. The way it was done only gives you access to two people, and in my case the faculty person didn't seem like the type that would go to battle for you if your app wasn't a hard science app with great scores and research under your belt. I felt like the person was a pretty hard core sciences person and not much of a people person. I am a people person that has an interest in science. I am not trying to cure cancer while at SA. I want to work with people and make them feel better. Either way, I know it is out of my hands now and I am just hoping they see the light. I really don't want to wait another year.

Still no. Must not be shnazzy according to SA and Houston seems to be just taking their time. Gosh, HURRRY!!! Baylor was awesome though and I think that Houston and San Antonio have their work cut out for them if they're to impress me beyond what Baylor did.

I think Houston closed down and no one told us. haha! I haven't seen anyone on here post new interview dates and predents shows the same three people. Anyone hear anything from Houston lately?

I called them but got transferred to an answer machine. Well.....
Then, I wrote them email last week, but I still didn't see them reply yet.

Everyone has been grieving including the associate dean of student affairs - Dr. Pierpont - whom you will become very familiar with if you get an interview and get accepted. That is just INSANE! I feel so bad for her and her family. That eerily reminds me of the "Hacking" incident here in Utah when that premed guy kept trying to take the MCAT and never did really well I suppose so he killed his wife. That is a messed up way to deal with your personal problems if you ask me. Then again, I'm sure these guys had a lot more skeletons in their closets. I feel for Houston :cry:.

Crazy thing about my invite though. It came from a first year student saying "if you have any questions contact me." I guess the offical invite should follow this one. Anyone else have this happen to them?
 
I received a letter like that last year, but it was after the official letter was sent. The letter from the student also extended the opportunity to come sit in on classes and clinic to get a better feel for the school.
 
I recieved a Houston Interview Invite today for Oct 1st.
 
Does anyone have an interview in Houston for Sept 17th?
