I got the same letter, don't think it means anything though. Maybe its because I sent my secondary app in before tmdsas sent out their stuff.

yea... i know it doesn't mean anything...but at least they know i'm alive...lol. I just sent my secondary app last thursday and my tmdsas was sent about 2 weeks ago

do you know how baylor does it labwork? i heard that the students have to do it in their own time...don't know if there's any validity to this...anyone?

Hey guys, im new to this site but just thought ide start posting with the rest of you guys. I applied to Baylor, Houston, and San Antonio, and this past weekend recieved an invitation for interview with San Antonio. Im scheduled for August 6. Has anyone else heard anything fron the schools. I thought they didnt send out invites this early. I was very excited to get it though!!

wow!!! congrats..mind sharing your stats...is your application complete?.. i only got a letter from baylor saying they needed some stuff....

i guess interview invites are starting to roll in....good luck everyone!

Baylor said they wouldn't start sending invitations until late july.

To answer your labwork question, baylor from what I know does make their students complete their own labwork unlike the other schools that allow their students to utilize a dental lab after a certain point. The reason I say is I did a summer program at baylor last summer and this topic was brought up. I dont know about you guys but, i guess it does have its advantages. It makes for a better dentist in my opinion.

To answer your labwork question, baylor from what I know does make their students complete their own labwork unlike the other schools that allow their students to utilize a dental lab after a certain point. The reason I say is I did a summer program at baylor last summer and this topic was brought up. I dont know about you guys but, i guess it does have its advantages. It makes for a better dentist in my opinion.

I have friends at each of the d-schools and I have heard the same thing. Baylor does their own labwork and the other schools send it out. I don't know if one way is better than the other, because I think sending it out mimics what we will do in the real world... my dentist sends out all his work... but I like the idea that I will be able to do it on my own if needed.

No joke! I get asked all the time which d-school I want to go to. I always reply, the one that says YES!

Anyone have an email address at baylor where I can email to find out whether they have recieved my secondary?
I emailed the generic email on the site, but it was retured to me as a failed delivery.

As of today Houston has two hundred applications and their first interview will be on August 20th. So the earliest you could hear from them is late july👍
 
EX_EE is right, my app was sent out without DAT scores.

YEAH! I got my first interview letter today! That was fast... my app fee posted 6/13, the app was sent to the schools 6/27, and I have my first interview letter 7/5. Amazing!

Congrats and Thanks! I'll make sure to post my update on how it goes too...

My stats are nothing special.... 3.56 Overall, 3.50 Science and 18 DAT. I feel pretty lucky to even get the chance to interview at S.A. I know my overall and science are higher than Baylor last yr and competitive with Houston... the S.A. invite was unexpected because they were like #3 in GPA's last yr.

My invite from S.A. came through the mail only. No emails.
 
yeah my app is still processin but i feel better i think an 18 is an ok score it's just b/c the dat got way harder etc.. and you saw the tmdsas avg dropped u know
 
btw. kaplan sux dik soo bad i can't believe i even paid 1.3k for that **** it was like wtf..like i think everyone dropped from their kap score like i know ppl who went from a 23==> 19😱 yeah
but the only good part was i had a hot ass persian chick for my instructor lol..

No other schools yet. In a post above, someone mentioned Houston starting Aug 20th, with letters going out in late July.

My stats aren't that special either, but I am still excited to get an interview. I am a non-traditional student, being 27, so I was still excited. My GPA is 3.4 and my DAT AA was 19.
 
I looks as though nobody is really off the charts with their grades which is very exciting for a person in my situtation. I wonder if the gpa/dat will be down this year.

Litldime what are your stats?
 
Ok, well i havent posted my stats here yet, but like everyone so far, im nothing special either: GPA: 3.53 and DAT AA 18. Good luck to everyone!!

tmdsas finally got my LORs today...how will i know when they've sent it to the d-schools? my app has already been sent out.

seems like all our gpas are pretty similar

hi any of you guys know if tx dental schools look heavily upon dental experience (shadowing hours)... extracurricular activities and alike? esp. UTHDB.. thanks all!

At two of my three of my interviews in Texas they asked about what I had the opportunity to observe, but that was about it. Houston was the only one not to ask... but they have a short list of questions that they ask every applicant. I would imagine if you have some shadowing, you should be fine.
 
yeah but not to make ppl worried but still apply out of state b/c a lot of ppl even with all the tx interviews they got waitlisted/rejected like there are just a lot of ppl like my friend had a 25 3.92 last yr and he was applyin so u know he would take ur spot automatically

i feel ya on this....i applied out of state...but my heart is set on texas. 😍..i mean don't get me wrong, i'll go where accepted....

if i get accepted into 2/3 in texas... i'm withdrawing my apps out of state

We can only hope that your friend wrote his essays like you write your post. We are all getting in if so! 😀

Also, having a 3.9/25 doesn't guarantee anyone acceptance into d-school. I studied with a very smart and very nice girl who had 3.8ish and 22 and didn't get in because she was such a bad people person. I am pretty sure during her interview she balled up and cried when they asked her anything besides o-chem questions.
 
It is just relative b/c there is no prediction about who can or can't get in. Yet, it is pretty clear that with like 800 tx applicants applyin with ridiculously high numbers that it just makes it all the harder. My instructor mentioned that 2 ppl she personally knew had all the tx interviews and still got rejected.
 
Its not all about the numbers at all, there was a link on the "post a link thread" that showed the stats for all the 2006 acceptances in texas, and there were 30 people who got in with sub 3.25 gpa, and 12 of those where sub 3.14's. So if there are 260 spots in texas(and theres more this year) than thats over 15% getting admissions with less than average grades. If you get an interview its one of three things. 1) who you know 2) can you bull **** 3)whats your story. Sorry for the drunken rant. 😴
 
yea, if you look at tmdsas stats, baylor also has stats on their website..it's pretty spread out actually....i think since most ppl gpas are relative..the rest of your application has to be solid and you have to shine at your interviews...i mean even if a person with a 4.0/ 28 dat gets into all three schools...they can only pick one to attend...🙂

even if you have such high stats...you could suck as a person and not still get accepted..grades aren't everything -they go a long way- but there are other factors...

I got an email today from Houston saying that my application had been recieved and they were begining to review them..and most importantly, to remain patient...haha
I do appreciate them letting us know though that we are somewhere in their system. I wish baylor and San Antonio would do the same thing!

Admissions consideration from UTHSCSA:

Management Model Score: (total points possible = 1000)

[science GPA x DAT-A Score/30 x 4 + Overall GPA] x 50 = Overall Score

All applications are reviewed and considered for an invitation to interview. Some applicants are considered for interview on a competitive basis, using the objective component of the Management Model Score derived from the overall GPA, the science GPA, and the academic average score from the DAT. All other applicants are reviewed and granted interviews based on consideration of the following factors:

1. Breakdown scores on DAT, especially the science scores for Biology, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry sections.
2. Course loads, upper division science preparation, university/college attended and timeframe.
3. Academic and personal background, including high school, parents education, extenuating circumstances affecting academic qualifications.
4. Socioeconomic situation and barriers to achievement.
5. Work experience, campus/community involvements and personal accomplishments.
6. Geographic issues, including South Texas and home in rural or underserved area
7. Letters of evaluation/recommendation.
8. Personal essay in application and evidence of commitment to dentistry.
