2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone hear from the schools below?

Boston
Fordham
Yale
Penn
Yeshiva
Columbia

😕😕😕

Should read the previous posts mate, i think I have answered the Fordham question @ least 3 times now. And I have seen others on all schools accept maybe Yale and columbia, but i did see something on those two schools on gradcafe... so, do your research 🙂

if the people who received invites from mizzou wouldn't mind, could they PM me their POI?

Thanks!

I got one for Clinical Child though, but it was from the POI, not the department or track

same..mine was an email/call from the POI. I'm just asuming since I circled adult track..not sure if what I circled matters

For anyone who got an invite to American would you mind letting me know your POI?

thanks & congrats!
:luck:

Ahh, my near mental breakdown. Good times, good times.

Btw, I didn't get my first interview invite until late January or early February.

For what it's worth, I thought you handled it extremely well. anyone would be stressed in that situation.

Sitting at work all day doesn't really help to whole "not checking every five seconds" thing. When I go home I just (try to) relax, hang out with friends, work out, etc.

By the way, it really sucks when you get e-mails on your phone and every time it vibrates you think it might be an invite. I get disappointed about 25 times a day 😀

Exactly, I refresh everything about every 5 minutes at work since the internet is so fast. and then I feel guilty. I've started going to the gym and seeing friends more (tough sometimes cause I'm on a very tight budget) but those help. started reading for pleasure again! also cooking more. Last night I went home straight after work and I made myself shut off the computer about 8pm because between here and gradcafe and another site, I was becoming ob-sess-ive. I have to admit, I have even been late to work because I spent too much time online in the morning before getting ready 🙁

I keep my phone off (I always do anyway) but I still check it about 25 times a day. Yesterday my sis called and I felt disappointed, usually a call from her is the best thing ever!

If there are any Denver Child Clinical folks who's POI is Dr.Hankin, would they mind PMing me? Thanks! :luck:

My husband half-jokingly said he was looking into website blocking software for SDN. It's ridiculous the amount of time I spend on here, when really all the interview list does is make me think schools are off the table. I never ask for POI's when a school I applied to goes up - I tell myself that it wasn't an invite from my POI...denial is handy tool! 😉

I fee like Charlie (a la Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), everyone's finding the golden ticket except me.

Ugh, four off the list...11 more to go.
:luck:

I have a bit of info on Ball State-- the Admissions Committee will receive the application packets next week, so we can breathe easy for a little while🙂
Hello All!
I applied to all counseling psychology phd programs and I am getting a little stir crazy waiting to hear back. Will you let me know if you have received any info on interviews/rejections from the following schools? 🙂 Thanks - Laura

Ball State University
Boston College
University of Akron
Virginia Commonwealth University
University of Miami
UM-Kansas City
Wisconsin Madison
Lehigh University

Has anyone heard anything from Emory yet? I'm getting anxious as their contact date for last year's interview invites was 1/11. Thanks!

I applied to Emory this year and last year. Last year I got my invite via email on Jan. 15th. So getting anxious, but yeah there's still hope! haha

Add more invites this morning!

Updating may be spotty for these next two days (though I'll keep up with it as best I can!), as I will be on the road for interview!

Wish me luck, if you will! :luck:

Good luck! And thanks for being so on top of this thread.

Thank you so much for sharing this information! Good Luck! Laura

So all of you waiting for UVM, BE PATIENT! I just got an email from the guy that had already sent out screening invites and he wants to phone interview me now too!

just saying there is always hope even when you think there isnt 🙂

Sometimes getting an interview isn't necessary. I know of people who have been accepted after not even interviewing. It is rare, but it does happen. Sometimes a POI may not be happy with the people he/she interviewed and then accepts someone else.

What she said.
Note: I am not saying you should be pie in the sky optimistic. We need to be realistic about the odds here. I just don't think anyone should write a school off yet (or work themselves into an unproductive tizzy). and is important to always be prepared, just in case an offer or interview comes through.

Hey folks.

Don't know if this has already been discussed or not.... I see a lot of people who are checking multiple times a day and freaking out about invites.

If you click on the link in the very first post of this thread (the one that actually LISTS all the stuff - and thanks again for doing that) - it will take you to this exact same thread from last year where it will list all the invite dates for all the schools (from last year).

So far, I have found this to be extremely accurate within 1/2 days - so that should give you a great idea on when the school will be sending out invites so you don't have to freak and check it every other second. Although after that date, then you are free to freak out! (3 of my schools have sent out invites which I haven't gotten, but no rejection either).

Hope this helps.

Who is your POI for UVM, if you don't mind saying. If you cant say, I understand as well. Also it it the same POI who is contacting people, or is everyone doing this now? Does anyone know? Thank you all for the info!

So, I don't know if anyone applied to this program, but I have an update from Columbia University Teacher's College Counseling Psychology program.

Although they sent out interview invites last year on the Wednesday after MLK day (aka next Wednesday!), they are behind this year. The person in the office said that they have not received the apps yet from the admissions office and do not know when they will begin to review them. However, she said that interview dates are February 25th or 26th (you can choose) and they will let people know at least 2 weeks in advance.

Hope this is helpful to someone. I know I would have started to worry next week if I didn't hear. 🙂

Phew. Thank you!

Just FYI for American applicants, last year they had two interview dates, with invites for the second one going out later. So don't freak out if you didn't get one.

Wow, this is torture 🙄...So far I have been officially rejected from Oklahoma State.
Now I see that Michigan State and U of VM already sent out interviews...
This really sucks.
I knew it wouldn't be an easy process, but I didn't expect it to be so anxiety inducing 😱

UVM hasn't sent out invites yet. They are just pre-screening. I was told by my POI that they will send invites out by snail-mail near the end of the month.

To the person who got the Utah invite, can you PM me if it was the pre-screen phone interview and who your POI is. Thanks a ton!

What is everyone doing to prepare for their interviews? I have just printed a few articles by my POI and also a few in the area I am interested not by my POI. I also have a list of questions I am going to write answers to that are common interview questions. And of course I will be writing a list of questions I will ask of the program. I hope I can remember all this when I am actually in the interview. *sigh*

I actually just had my UVM phone interview, was great. He said that they actually will be meeting next week, and at least in his case he will let those he screened know by the end of the week one way or the other, which is really nice of him. But they definitely meet next week as a committee.

Very, very helpful! 🙂 Thank you!

I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but I'm very concerned that I will have two interviews scheduled for the same day, in different parts of the country. (I'm not saying that I expect oodles of interviews, just that I occasionally have really bad luck. 🙄) If you've (actually or hypothetically) found yourself in this situation, what have you done? If one school is a long-shot dream and the other is more realistic, which interview should you attend?

Probably the one you could afford to go to....or whichever one you're more interested in attending if offered a spot.

My friend last year was in this situation, and she either asked to phone interview or visit the school on a different day. From what I understand, it's perfectly reasonable to say, "unfortunately, I've already made a commitment for those days; could we make alternate arrangements?" They know you're interviewing other places.

Just received an invite from the University of Pennsylvania...happy day! 😀

(Email from admin asst, interview dates 2/8 or 2/15)

This actually just happened to me. Eastern Michigan just emailed me to offer me an interview. Same day as Penn. They did offer an alternate day, but stressed that not all faculty members would be available and to please try to make 2/19....

Just got a phone call from my POI at Miami of Ohio inviting me to an interview on Feb. 5 or 8. 😀

Congratulations to all those who have received interviews! I can only imagine how excited you must be!

Somehow I missed that U Vermont was on the list in the first post. Could you please PM your POI? Much Thanks..

If you could PM me the POI as well I would really appreciate it.

I've been trying to keep my anxiety to a minimum this go 'round (since this is year 2 in the elusive battle to get into a good program) - as well as keep my lurking down on SDN (since that seems to make my heart skip a beat every time I log on)... and so far I've been proud of myself! Pretty low-key for me.

Until today...

I was in and out of meetings all day at work today, so my phone was on silent. When I got home I finally remembered to turn the ringer on and noticed 4 miss calls from unfamiliar numbers. I did my best to take a deep breath and be rational but even before saying "Hi, how was your day" to my spouse... I ran to the computer to do a reverse look-up. One of the numbers was traceable to the campus of one my top schools and the other two were traceable to the town of another top choice. No one left a message. So yeah... needless to say I'm freaking out... and trying to convince myself it HAS TO BE good news. :xf:

Attend where you want to go more or fits better into your travel schedule. It's not uncommon to have multiple interviews originally scheduled for the same date -- many programs will offer alternate dates when enough applicants have conflicts.

It's easiest to go to the first page of the thread and look at the list.
