2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Alaskan Justin-

I reread your original response and realized we're basically on the same page. I was just trying to share my experience as a current student who found a great match with an advisor that wasn't my "first choice" on the application. But having been through the process, I know how applications get passed around and shared with faculty members you may not have even considered. Grad school applications work in mysterious ways... 🙂

Could the person with the most recent Drexel invite pretty please PM me their POI? Or I can even just tell you mine and you can tell me yes or no? Thanks!!!

yeah cheers mate you are already in 🙂

Thanks to all for responding to my post - set my mind at ease.

On a side note, if anyone has found the confirmation that Temple is through with invites, please share the URL. Their FAQs say an admissions update will be posted when all invites have gone out but it's unclear where so I would love to stop obsessively checking the online app/Temple website.

Has anyone called to check?

Okay, my number one choice is on the list. And, judging by past years, they only have one interview day. I wasn't invited for an interview.

Why then have they not given me an official rejection? I don't understand their thinking. Anyone?

Does anyone know whether Apply Yourself will send you an email if a program posts something in the "Application Message Center"?

Based on my run last year and then already this year... every program is different.

Some programs have already sent out rejects - about the same time they send out interview invites or not to long after. Some schools want to make for certain that you are not in the running and then will therefore wait to well in the process. Other programs just want to wait until everything is said and done to send rejections.

So in short... some rejections I got early via email (I got Nebraska's last week) and then last year I didn't get several rejections until April/May through snail mail.

I saw on the Rejections thread some people had found out this way, so I logged in and got the bad news. I never received any notification email. Otherwise, I have not been logging in to the schools' online application sites and am now wondering if I should be looking out for info this way too.

Did you find out this way because you logged in and got bad news yourself, or you've heard other people found out this way? I think there is usually an automated email telling you there's a status update - at least I think I recall that from my last time applying. If not, that's a brutal way to find out. And, I think the schools that use "ApplyYourself" have that application status update feature.

Does anyone have any info on whether or not UVM is done sending out invites?!?

I am too waiting on the edge of my seat for a UVM invite. Hopefully they are going out in waves...

jus wana holla at my gurls jesse and jackie - stay strong😎

I got a rejection letter from a school that uses ApplyYourself, and my status according to that is still 'Pending - Application Complete - Sent to Program'.

Could the person who got the BC interview invite PM me their POI?

Did the DCT give you any information that might be helpful to those of us who REALLLLY want an interview there?!

Hey guys,

I just received a nice, apologetic email from Temple (in response to my email about application status) saying that they are completely backlogged and are still in the process of extending interviews.

P.S. Could people from Yale, Stonybrook, UConn, and UPenn PM me their POI.
This waiting game is no fun!

Thanks!

I also heard from Temple today. The DCT said that they are still in the process of extending interview invitations and should make their final decisions in the next day or two.

To those still waiting from Memphis, I heard they are extending the majority of the applicants within the next few days.

I see U Mass Boston is on the list, with someone receiving an invite on the 4th. Even though I sent my materials on time, as of then they still hadn't 'completed' my application. Every time I called they assured me they just had a lot of files that hadn't been matched up with all their materials yet and it wouldnt affect my chances (my file is listed as complete now)

On the website it says interview dates are Feb 26th and March 1st (not Feb 22nd like it says in this post), and that everyone who will be invited will be before Feb 17th.

Anyway, do you think that means they just invited people as they review applications and they arent done? Can the person who got the invite PM me and let me know HOW they got it (email, phone call, and from whom, DCT, POI, secretary?)

Argh...I'm dying here

Just wanted to remind folk: as you learn of rejections, please update the Rejections thread (or PM me with the information) so that I can keep it up to date.

Ahh...my first in-person invite! What a weight off my shoulders! Its like your friends all having dates to the prom, and desperately hoping that boy finally invites you! Horrible horrible horrible process!!

Mind sharing where?

Congrats!🙂 Where? We're all dying here! 😉

The Director of Training of the Counseling Psychology Program at the University of Miami called to invite me to interview on 3/5! Hooray!

I don't mind sharing at all, the interview is for University of Wyoming-- they are having their interview weekend 2/21-2/23. Nice way to start the weekend!

I know it totally sucks waiting for everything (I am waiting on 14 other schools!), but it is still pretty early, so we have to just keep reminding ourselves that they are coming!! 🙂

Does anyone know what schools use this? I've tried checking my application status at schools but they all just show they've received transcripts, etc. It doesn't say anything about review status. I've never heard of Apply Yourself

Anyone know how to add a school to the interview feedback site? I want to give feedback on my interview this past week, but UCSB CCSP is not there. Thanks!

do the "contact us" bit and ask them to add the school. if there are others you know you're going to have interviews for, ask them to add those, too.

You can tell if the online app URL starts like this: app.applyyourself.com, or if multiple online apps allowed you to use the same PIN and password...

I don't think any of mine used that. I had one, Apply Web, that had the same password, etc. and showed several applications at once, but I just checked it and it didn't show any kind of status besides submission so I guess it doesn't show rejections.

i just called the psychology department at yale. similar to what others have heard, i was told that there is no in-person interview, that interivews will be conducted by phone, and that some people interviewed will be invited to the visitor's day on march 1st. i was told that so far no invitations for phone interviews have gone out, and that this will happen "in the next couple weeks."

So what do you make of this? Either this is the standard response the department has agreed upon, regardless of whether invitations have gone out or it's true and whoever said they had phone interview invite already isn't telling the truth.

I'm going to start making a collage of posts on my wall and connecting them with thumb tacks and thread, I'll let you guys know if there's a pattern.😉

After watching everyone else get invites for the past few weeks (some of which were to schools I applied to and have heard nothing from), and only hearing from my 2 safety schools, I finally got a super-exciting interview invite today! It was for a total "reach" program that I thought I had no chance at and only applied to it "because you never know what could happen." Just goes to show that you really never know what might happen and we should all try to stay positive throughout this whole stressful ordeal!

not sure if people are lying on the thread, but, as far as admissions offices go, i can tell you that they probably do have a standard response and that they will never give you a definite answer on whether you will be invited, whether you should have been invited, whether they finished inviting, etc, until everything is said and done, which means when the official invite/acceptance/rejections letters go out. part of all of this is complicated by professors doing their own thing too. and, it is common that the decisions are made, changed, and then changed again, all depending upon about dozens of different reasons pertaining to the specific program, so you really cannot be certain of anything until you have it in writing.

I'll save you some time and reference the great Douglas Adams... the answer is 42!

Just received an invite to University of Oklahoma's Counseling program. Finally!!

I feel lucky to have this problem, BUT:
2 schools have offered me interviews on the same date. Neither one is my first choice, but I don't want to throw away a potential offer. Any advice as to the best course of action without burning a bridge?

First of all, congrats on the interviews! This is definitely not the first time this has happened and the schools will understand that. Have you reached out to either of the schools to explain your situation and see if either one is able to interview you at another time?

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything yet? What makes you say that it would be yesterday or today?

I received an invite via phone from UCLA this afternoon (around 1:30 EST). The interviews are Feb 4-6.

Would you mind PMing your POI and/or any other info you'd be willing to share, like who the phone call was from.

Thanks a million!
