Hiii just to let you know, I didn't apply there, but I spoke to someone who applied last year, and I don't know if they are using the format, but apparently the group interview at adelphi consisted of a professor and grad student observing the applicants carry on a conversation....she made it sound like the professor and grad student didnt even interact with the applicants but just watched them talk....sounded kind of wierd to me, and I guess don't assume that it will be that way in case they switch it, but i guess be aware that this might be a possibility?

Who knows if any other programs are doing this...! Just wanted to throw that out there for everyone...especially Georgia applicants

What I heard was that not all of the professors who were allowed to invite students ended up being able to take a student. It wouldn't make sense for a program to have a policy like what you described because they would risk having no incoming class.

Plus, like I said -there are people who received official acceptances and official notices of rejections post-interview. I didn't receive anything and e-mailed my POI directly and that's where I got the waitlist information. And I know I'm not the only interviewee who didn't receive notice of acceptance/rejection and found out they're on a waitlist after contacting POI.

Now, as to what chances they have to pull from the waitlist (i.e., if there top choice says no, maybe another professor gets a chance) could be where the policy gets weird. Like I said, I would just encourage emailing your POI if you haven't heard.

Yea that's pretty much the same thing I heard. They just watch you talk. Sounds kind of arbitrary but I guess thats how it goes. The program has an excellent reputation. Although I the median finish time is 6 years. I was hoping for 5.
 
I didn't even apply to Georgia. This was told to me by my advisor who has many contacts with the school. I was just trying to inform people about their (possible) weird policy.
 
Any news about Purdue Clinical? I noticed that on the first page it states interviews were given, BUT I spoke with my POI about 3 weeks ago (I guess in what you could consider a phone interview) and they were still trying to figure out if they were going to have people come out.

If the student is being funded by the university, rather than a professor's grant, it does make sense. The departments must submit their nominations to the graduate office by a certain date, and the graduate school makes the final decision / rubber stamps the recommendation and authorizes the funding. Therefore, if an offer is made to Student A and is declined, the deadline will have passed so that funding would not be available for an alternate candidate. An informative thread for you all would be one in which interviewees shared the funding offers they receive, not just offers of admission.

I currently work with an Adelphi student who is doing the program in 5 yrs, FWIW.
 
I received an invite this morning from Hofstra (clinical psych) after emailing the admin on Wednesday, inquiring about whether all invitations had been extended or not. 😀 Interview is on March 5.

I'M SO EXCITED! It's my first interview! I just hope the weather is better by then.... :xf:

Congratulations and good luck!!! At a minimum, my wish would be that everyone could be granted at least one interview.
 
Is anyone else interviewing at Auburn on March 5? Im flying into Birmingham and was wondering if anyone would like to share a cab or rental care to the school

I suggest leave it out. You don't want them thinking you are interested for any reason other than its a good fit for you academically. It also sort of reflects an un-seriousness on your part basing your decision to attend the school on that fact (not saying you are not serious, not meant to offend and speaking objectively. obviously you are very bright), some people just tend to take these things a certain way. It would be super awesome if you got in though, good luck!!

I would say it totally depends on how the convo goes - some interviews have seemed like a "how can we get you here" kind of conversation and in that context it's totally appropriate to say it's your #1 for so many reasons - personally and professionally. And PLEASE don't lie about your fiance! Imagine if you got in there and then it comes out that you really aren't engaged!!

Georgia actually has a pretty well-known track record for dropping the ball regarding admission decisions.

I applied to their Counseling MA back in 2008 and never, ever heard anything from them. Eventually, I received 7-8 acceptances, but never any word from them. Not an acceptance, not a waitlist, not a rejection. Since they were my safety I never even bothered to contact them.

I know one girl got a rejection from them that JUNE and when I was complaining on another similar site one person said they never contacted him about his application for the Ph.D in any way. He called on ~4/20 and found out he had been on a waitlist.

At any rate, I decided back then that there was NO WAY I'd apply to them when it came time for PhD apps. We paid the fee, the least we deserve is a TIMELY response, let alone a response at all.

My mantra when it comes to dealing with these frickin' schools who don't frickin' respect their applicants time and energy. I mean, if you're already going to reject us, and you know for sure there is no chance of us ever being on your waitlist, let us know! What on earth do you have to gain from holding on to our applications?

got a call for interview with liu, brooklyn campus-phd, this morning--also per someones post about poi at liu, that's not how they work--they actually encourage against writing a specific faculty member in you SOP, that students select their mentor in their second or third year.
 
for people going to u cinci on feb 26, what airport are you flying into? my interview email didn't include the 'visitor packet' and i emailed them back but no response. or if someone wouldn't mind just emailing it to me, pm me for my email. thankkks

Trust me, the only airport you want to fly into is the Northwern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati International Airport... just trust me, its a real quick trip to Cincinnati (Northern Kentucky and Cincy are sister cities so to speak, just separated by the Ohio river.

So I received an interview invite last week. The two interview days filled up and now it has been over a week and I still don't know when my interview is. Has anyone ever been offered an interview and then had it rescinded? Since the other interviews are over I'm starting to get nervous I either won't get to actually interview or I won't get the same consideration as the students who were able to go on the scheduled interview days... anyone else run into this?!?!!?

That's strange. Why didn't they have enough interview slots for all the applicants that they wanted to interview? If it was their error, I would think you would still be allowed to interview--and you would be given the same consideration as everyone else.

I know an alumni of the program who said the same thing happened when she interviewed... I think its really weird too but I guess since its a late interview date maybe they assume some people will decline the invitation? Either way I've been checking my email non-stop hoping to finally find out something... its my top choice too which makes it even more anxiety provoking!

Did the alum say it happened to him or her? Did s/he end up getting a later interview? . . . Since the invite was just last week, I wouldn't worry too much yet. They might just be trying to decide who their top picks are out of that group of applicants before adding another group to the mix.

Good luck! Depending on when the interviews were held, I might contact them via phone call on Friday (if you don't hear from them by then).
 
So I received an interview invite from one of my top schools. I'm really excited about it. However, the interview day (and alternative day) conflict with my other interviews. I told my POI this over the phone and conveyed to him that this program was on the top of my list, and he was really cool and accommodating (and he said he was really impressed with my application). So, we ended up rescheduling on a day in the middle of the week. I know that I will interview with him, and maybe meet a couple other faculty and grad students or possibly even sit in on a lab meeting. Do you think I will receive the same consideration as the other interviewees who can come in on the interview days? B/c this program is one of my top choices, do you think I should try and reschedule one of the less important interviews so that I can go to the interview day? Or does it not really matter? Is it possible that having this attention and access on a special day may actually give me a leg-up on the competition? Suggestions?

They'll give equal consideration. Will it give you a leg-up? No, I don't think so. I think you will be considered just like everyone else. . . . However, you will be the focus during your altenate interview day because no other candidates will be there. Thus, all of your plusses and minuses will be easier to see/harder to hide. Good luck!!!

Just got my first offer 😀 Struggling with how to sound as grateful as I feel and to thank my POI without officially accepting yet as I am still waiting on other schools....How do most people tactfully handle this situation?

I'm in the same situation - but I pretty much just wrote a quick e-mail in response saying something to the effect of 1) that I was delighted to hear the news, 2) that I had a very positive impression of the program after my visit, and 3) that I would let them know of my decision as soon as I could and that I looked forward to keeping in touch (!).

I think most programs understand that you aren't going to decide right away, especially if your interviews aren't over. I didn't feel like I had to explain anything. Also, mine have been unofficial notices technically I guess, so I did mention that "I looked forward to hearing more" as well (as they said I'd get the official offer soon etc.).

Just keep it short and positive.
