Woke up to an interview invite this morning! I'm OOS and was complete in late July.

ok, so i really procrastinated on this. got the secondary june 25 and just started working on the essays yesterday (would be done by tonight probably). i was super, super busy over the summer and honestly i just didnt prioritize ohio's app based on the essays combined with laziness.

should i waste my money submitting this one?! MORE THAN TWO MONTHS LATE! and out of state, with <average GPA + >average MCAT.

advice is appreciated 🙁

hmm...I guess it really depends on how much you like the school. I would say that if you can't see yourself attending if you even got accepted don't bother applying, but if you can see yourself being happy here as a med student then look at how the cycle is going for you. If you don't have any interview invites yet, I would submit to increase the odds that you will get accepted somewhere. If you have some invites maybe it won't be as worth it to finish the app for you.

Invite!! Set for 11/2. I love the Buckeyes.

Waiting for that phone call. Go Buckeyes!😀

Thanks, dude/tte. I'm really just hoping to get into med school at all. No interview invites yet, so I'm going to follow your logic, wrap up the essays tonight and submit my heart out. It's so late, but oh well!

Congrats to those of you with interviews!!! My friend just graduated from ohio state's med school, and she really loved it. 👍

Got a call from Dean Capers couple hours after the email. Definitely made my day.😀

Hey all,

I just wanted to say good luck this year. The OSU is a great place to get yourself a medical education. Hopefully I will see you walking around campus soon in your goofy dark suits.

Haha goofy? thanks though, see you around!

I am super shocked. I just got rejected. I got an interview here two years ago... and have insane improvements. plus my interviewer was a super jerk (i figure they know these things maybe). a long drawn out rejection is kind of what I would have expected. so much for improvement, looks like they don't care. 😡

OK and the year when I did get an interview I didn't even answer one of the essay questions, where you see yourself in 10 years. How did I get an interview then? I didn't even have any clinical experience!

this seems to be the consesus. I have yet to hear anything bad about the school.

Invite this morning! OOS--I'm so excited!! I'll be heading out 11/4

I am also waiting on Case..anyone have ideas on if I should send an in-the-area email? How should I go about it?

Congrats on the invite! There are a number of threads floating around that address this issue and the best conclusion that I came to was call the office and push your interview back with School X and hope to hear from School Y soon. However, I decided to take the first date possible at OSU and another school in the region and fly out twice. Booking plane tickets more than a month in advance cost me almost the same as it would have cost me to schedule a tour of the region.

Congrats, people. Maybe I'll see some of you there.

So how does everyone feel about the large class sized at OSU?

Good/bad/indifferent?

Indifferent. I'm sure there are good aspects of it and drawbacks too.

has anyone interviewed here yet? how was the experience?

if not does anyone know when they start interviewing?

i don't wanna hear it gator fan 😛

Well, good thing you guys pulled through. That was a big trap game, 1st game and right before USC against an option team. That was a nice clincher by Brian Rolle though, Florida represent!

You know when I saw Chipper Jones (my favorite baseball player ever since I was a little kid) wearing a Gator's jersey on gameday I was 😕 and

Dang, look what USC did to San Jose State. Ohio State's going to be a huge underdog next week.

OK next question.

What's the deal with the independent study pathway program thingy (forget exact title)?

I spoke to one young lady who's... brother, I believe, participated in it. Apparently he didn't really like it all that much. He kind of felt like he was left to stumble his way through the material, without much guidance/direction.

Have you guys heard anything about this? I'm sure other people have loved it, right?

ok quick question: I live about 3 hours 15 minutes away from columbus, and I need to be at the interview at 1045... would it be smart to stay with a student host or in a hotel, or is it ok to drive that distance in the morning? Anyone with experience with this?

I wouldn't risk it. What if there is an accident and traffic backs up for hours. Get a student host. the school is pretty good with arranging those.

At this point in time, should I bother to submit a secondary for this school? Is it a bit too late? I don't know why I put off this school until the very end of my secondaries but this is my last secondary should I decide to submit it. Seems like they've given out so many invites already.

remember the MCAT scores for a lot of applicants have just gone in or will go in later. So if you submit now, you'll be on the same page as everybody who took the MCAT late. Seems like a fair chance.

No, because you will create more competition.😛

JK, you have good stats.

Got my interview set for November 16th. I am stoked. Gonna come out a few days earlier and hit up the OSU/Iowa game! Does anyone know of any local web-sites or places to acquire tickets?

I really like www.kayak.com - it searches many travel sites at the same time (like orbitz, cheaptickets, etc), so you can get a low price without doing tons of searches on your own.

It's still very, very early. I really believe the necessity of applying early is really overblown on SDN. For example, I submitted my Secondary at OSU Nov. 7th, got an interview in February and was accepted. Send that guy in and you'll still be two months ahead of me. 👍

Also, in response to Wildcat, I personally wouldn't drive three hours to Columbus on the day of your interview simply because sitting in traffic for three hours usually doesn't put me in the mood to "put my best face forward." Also its kinda unnecessarily risky, there was at least one kid at one of my interviews who was late due to being stuck in traffic... now I know plenty of people without ill effects, but... just not something I would do, I like staying the night before anyways.
