OK next question.

What's the deal with the independent study pathway program thingy (forget exact title)?

I spoke to one young lady who's... brother, I believe, participated in it. Apparently he didn't really like it all that much. He kind of felt like he was left to stumble his way through the material, without much guidance/direction.

Have you guys heard anything about this? I'm sure other people have loved it, right?

First, you asked about class size... personally I really dig the fact our class is big, it gives you room to be yourself and find plenty of unique people to spend your time with. It also means setting up study groups with someone with your same study style isn't as hard, and we have more people contributing to tutornet, our online note sharing service. Also means more resources allocated to the school in general. Also I feel like gossip in our class is a little more restrained compared to some schools I have acquaintances in, not that that's really a big deal.

Second, ISP (you got the name right) isn't something I know much about since I didn't choose that pathway, but I'll share what I know. Basically you go through Anatomy like everyone else and at the end of Anatomy you can choose to be ISP. Basically you give up attending lecture each day in exchange for "Modules" or a variety of texts that take you through the curriculum. You are free to study any time (ISP students have their own library with 24 hour access) and take tests on your own schedule (within reason, you still have to take Step I of the boards the same time as everyone else) and show up for CAPS class once a week (which is basically a clinical skills class everyone takes).

None of my friends in ISP have complained about a lack of direction, you still have Module leaders who are professors who can provide guidance and answer questions. Some people I know HAVE complained about feeling isolated, ISP tends to attract people who don't show up at campus very often or have families, thus you don't have the regular social contact that you get with lecture. That's honestly a big deal for me, and the main reason I chose not to do ISP. The friends I know in ISP, however, are for the most part happy with their choice, more than happy to not show up on campus very much, have more flexibility etc etc. I think the phrase I hear most often is "done with that classroom bullsh*t."

About 25-60 students choose the ISP pathway, so know that its an option, not a requirement. And remember, I didn't do it, so my take on it is not definitive.

Go Bucks!!! beat the Trojans 👍

HALLELUJAH they lost... maybe those buckeye heads will deflate a little. anyway, anyone interviewed her yet? how'd it go?

Marvelous, thank you for the excellent responses. I've been trying to find out as much as I can about this school, and yours is definitely the best info on the ISP.

Overall, what are you thoughts on the school? What really stands out to you? From what I gather, it definitely seems like a school on the rise.

just got an invite, thought it was kinda funny how they just tell you when to come, no option.

i'm kinda excited, watched the u$c game...was fun until the last 4 minutes

When were you complete?

Hey, I'm got an interview coming up, and I have some questions. It says that the interview will be over at 4 pm, so could I possibly catch a 5:50pm plane? Thanks.

I had a 6pm flight and had no problems, though I guess it depends on how they schedule your interviews... mine were on the earlier side

If you're really fast.

Oh? How long would it usually take to get to the airport from where we interview?

We were all done by 3:15 pm at the latest on the day that I interviewed. The airport is maybe 15-25 min away depending on traffic. Hope that helps.

So the consensus is that a 6pm flight works out OK? I can't find any information about a schedule or even what time I need to be there in the morning on their website. Anybody found anything?

EDIT: I found a link on the status page that has some information. They say that you should be done by 4 pm at the latest.

Yea, that's where I got the 4pm thing from. I would think that since it's not a long drive, and the Columbus airport shouldn't be too big, 2 hours should be enough time.

Have invites been a turnaround of 3 to 4 weeks from the complete email... or sooner?

It's been a month since I was complete and I still haven't heard either way. Is that normal?

have you checked on the medstar website? sometimes the email telling you that your status has changed either arrives later or doesn't show up in your inbox! 😳

Three questions about OSU:

1 - about how many people are at interviews?
2 - who's going to be there tomorrow?
3 - an MS2 at another school told me they were very ethics question happy at her interview - any confirmation of that?

1.) There were 15 people at my interview day
2.) I dunno!
3.) I had heard that as well. I received zero ethics questions during my interview.

This is my next interview (not this Monday, but next, if anyone else is interviewing then too). How has everyone's interview experience been so far?

When I interviewed, I got a bunch of ethical questions and the guy pretty much responded like a jerk to whatever I said. Of all my interviews, it was the only one where I felt like I was being attacked the whole time. Not fun at all. Subsequently, I was deferred and withdrew my application.

Sorry to hear that you had such a hard time at their interview. I think it really depends on who interviews you. I intereviewed there twice actually and the first time I thought it went well (really got along with the interviewer and there were no ethics questions) but I got deferred anyways. The second time I interviewed was a lot harder than the first one, I stumbled through the ethics questions, and while it wasn't confrontational, it was definitely not laid back. I've heard the same comment about it from my fellow interviewers: some said that it was the most laid-back interview they went to, others said it was the most confrontational interview that they've ever had. It depends on the interviewer

I think it may be the interviewee as well... I wonder if they grill certain people based on their application (i.e. altruism essay, stats, research, clinical experiences, implicit political leanings, etc.).

Either way, I was bummed when I didn't get in but I'm happy where I am now. Things work out if you do your part, even if you end up somewhere other than where you originally planned.

Good luck to all.

Interviewed there sometime within the last three weeks...

1. there were about ten people at mine
2. ???
3. I was soooo ready for an ethics question but did not get one 🙁

I really liked my interview experience here but i liked my faculty interview A LOT better than the student interview. The faculty interview was really conversational and I felt he really knew my application. I felt the student interview was more confrontational then it took me a long time to think of an answer to the first questions and i never recovered fully (Question was:: describe a situation where you helped someone recently and what you would have done differently)
