Actually I really just had a problem with what seemed like their tendancy to keep applicants at arm's length. I've gotten answers to all my questions via email as well, but I just find it odd that while most of my schools have a human being answering your calls who's usually really, really helpful, Rush's admissions # is a) unlisted and b) answered by a recording that hangs up on you after 15 seconds. 🙁

Anyway, does anybody know anything about Rush's LOR policy? I know they say they require two, and only two letters from individuals "with whom you've had significant contact over the past year". My two strongest letters that fulfill this requirement are from a past employer and a physician. Neither taught me in a formal class. I emailed the school stating my situation, and asking if using non-academic letters would put me at a disadvantage. They just directed me back to their LOR policy, which I'd already read and hadn't answered my question. 😕😕
 
They're like AT&T's customer service. Great if you are not very bright and ask obvious questions, horrible if you actually have a unique question that can't be answered from a template.
 
This is random, but how long is it taking from the time you send the check in to the time RUSH deposits it? I don't want it to bounce! =[
 
i also have an odd question.

I think I submitted my secondary, without having paid and sent in the sig form, and proof of cit.

Is there a way I can still access that?

Does Rush waive the secondary application fee for those who have FAP?
 
is anyone else having trouble w/the 1000 character limit?? i have pretty much written all of the essays bc they were all questions for different schools....but they are all so long compared to Rush's limit. I dont even know what to cut out without it sounding horrible!
 
how long after you mailed the signature form did you get the complete status? i mailed mine in yesterday from about ten miles away . . . so if it didn't arrive today it probably will tomorrow 🙂 but i expect it will take a while to process. 😴

I mailed it like 3 days ago from 30 miles away and nothing.
 
do you guys think its okay to answer the question "describe two examples of working w/ppl...one with leadership skills and the other with problem solving abilities" if i discuss one main example that shows BOTH? The character limit is so small that i wont get to describe anything somewhat in detail if i give two totally separate examples

That's what I did. Honestly I thought that was sort of an unreasonable question to ask with that short of a character limit. I mean, it's pretty hard to communicate anything meaningful about two experiences with with a restriction like that. Then again, maybe they're just looking for the basic facts/situation and will ask you more about if/when you interview.

Dunno if they'll care or notice either way though, I doubt secondaries play a major role in determining who gets interviews...
 
I know that Rush asks to Indicate whether you have skills/accomplishments/honors in any of the following areas... and select all that apply
what would constitute as Other?
 
Rush's secondary asks: Are you currently or have you been employed in a health care-related field?
Does that constitute as research?
Ive done paid research at a hospital... does that count?
Ive done genetics research....

i think maybe not? hospital is health care-related, but research (even if its done at a hospital) doesn't have to be health care related. Did your work involve caring for the health of patients?

Paid research at a hospital is definetely "employment in a health care-related field"

looks like we're unclear about whether or not it should be counted as healthcare related. maybe its worth calling them to ask about (and then you can post the answer here so that everyone knows! 🙂)
 
1000 characters... i think this post is a thousand characters... how are we supposed to convey anything meaningful at all?

This has been tough since I've been so long winded in all my secondaries 🙁

my status changed to reflect that they got my signature form and payment. it took about 1.5 weeks. still haven't downloaded my letters yet but i hope to be complete soon. no one has had any interview invites from Rush yet?

I've never posted before, so forgive me if I post in the wrong place or something. =) I have a question about the "crisis" prompt..... do you guys think it would be appropriate to write about a specific patient who died while I was helping with CPR? (I was volunteering at a hospital in Africa.)
Or is this a bit too.... heavy.... to write about in this situation??
It was the best thing that came to mind to write about, but I don't want to write it if it will come off as inappropriate.
Thoughts?

I think it's fine to tell this story. It's not too heavy, i don't think. Personally, I would make sure my tone isn't too sensational and kind of speak of things with a good dose of matter-of-factness. Not to say that it should be passion-less or anything, but don't be... idk, hopefully you get what i'm saying.

Anyways.... a birth certificate? Really?!

Definitely! It's not too heavy, people die. It will show that you've really experienced medicine in action.

this is taking way too long....i check the page everyday and nothing really changes except the date when the page was updated....=[

At the earliest, next week would be my guess. I don't think that status page ever changes, so once you are complete, there's no point in checking that page again. Just wait for an email.

Thanks for your help, guys. I did write about that event afterall.

I was JUST re-reading my essays for this secondary, and I noticed a typo......I wrote PREVENTATIVE Medicine instead of PREVENTIVE Medicine!!! Gosh, I feel like they're going to think I'm an IDIOT! I already submitted.... is it stupid to call/write?? Or should I just leave it and try not to worry?

I don't want them to reject me on the basis of two stupid letters! On the other hand, I'm: a) a reapplicant, and b) my stats aren't stellar..... so this could just be the last straw for me. Should I call or something?? Ugh I feel so dumb for not noticing it before submitting!

For the love of god, don't contact them over this. :smack:
Preventative is absolutely kosher spelling anyway; it's just an variant of preventive. Both are in the dictionary.
 
Well I know that both arelegitimate words.... but I think that the field is called "Preventive Medicine". Thats what it seems like everyone calls it, including Rush (see link on Rush website). I haven't seen the field written as "Preventative Medicine". I used it in the context of the medical field.
Ack.
Maybe I'm worrying too much. I just feel like I'm already walking a thin wire- I can't afford to give them any more reasons to throw my application out!😱

i think they have to read so many essays that they probably skim anyway. i had to read your post twice just to see what mistake you were talking about. i bet they may not even notice and if they did i am sure they didn't care. i have always heard 'preventative' rather than 'preventive' in that context anyway. i am sure they are interchangeable.

in other Rush news . . . they have all my stuff but have yet to download my letters. please, Rush, can you complete me this week?!
 
It has been one month since I submitted my app and my letters are still not on there so I am not complete. The disclaimer was it may take 4 weeks to show things on the status page. So do you think I should bother them with an email or call?

It's been a month for me as well. If you do call, let us know what happens.
 
I don't think they answer phone calls, you have to email them. Even if they pick up the phone, they will just tell you to email them.
 
Ditto on the last few posts guys, I would say let's wait it out... they haven't even handed out interviews. It's encouraging to see that other applicant's letters haven't been downloaded yet, and I'm not just getting left in the dust...

I think we are in a decent position at this school if the secondary and mailed materials have come in already.
 
I know one thing they were actually pretty quick at.... cashing the check. 😛
 
glad to see everyone else in the same boat (everything in, but no letters downloaded yet.) i just feel like their status page is taunting me with the red flashing "You Are Not Complete!" I'm sorry Rush, I WANT to be complete! but we're in this together! the ball is in your court now 🙁

it also drives me crazy that i keep logging in and it appears they are ARE doing stuff because the "last updated on" date keeps changing . . . but they just aren't updating any of us i guess 🙄
 
It took me three weeks to be complete in August. I think they download letters in weekly Friday batches and then complete them the following week.

Still haven't heard a peep from them after completion.
 
same for me. complete august 18, but not a peep. I guess no one else has too.
 
FINALLY got my Birth certificate to them (way too much of a hassle). Hopefully they don't hold it against me... My secondary and letters have been there for a month or more.

It is frustrating after stressing out about submitting ASAP and feeling like every day that passed I was losing a little edge on this app cycle.... and how it's out of my hands. Rush, please complete me!
 
Interview invite this morning!!! This is my top choice! Though there are only two available dates and they are both Wednesdays...do you think more will open up?
