Yeah, it's the email they send you asking you to fill out their secondary. The link to the status page is towards the bottom of that email.
I don't have the status link on my email can anyone copy and paste the link on this site?? Thanks

No you don't. Not unless you're NOT a citizen. The application does not require proof of citizenship if you are an American citizen. From what I've been told, after you are accepted, they may ask you to provide proof of citizenship, even for US citizens.
So anyone know what the interview, acceptance ratio for this school, especially for OOS peeps?
I have the new MSAR from data *****. It doesn't have the acceptance ratio though but we can speculate.
Applied OOS:3006
Interviewed OOS:379
Matriculant OOS: 36
If they accepted 2x the number of OOS matriculants = 72
Dang, pretty steep cutoffs for each section.![]()
Yea it is. On the bright side, Downstate and Buffalo seems to be the more OOS friendly SUNYs. Also you get to pay IS tuition after a year(no ifs, buts or asterisk ! ).
its actually only IS tuition if u dont live on campus the 1st year...if u dorm it then you cant get the tuition until u move off campus. At least i remember someone telling me that.Yea it is. Elijah, I think you're correct. It says in the handbook that dormitories are not a place of permanent residence and you need to show intent to set up a permanent home. Of course, I could have completely misinterpreted it. 😛
yah regardless though the fact u could even get in-state tuition is amazing so early. Almost no schools do that. I remember talking to a current student (at one of the sunys i think it was downstate) and he said that near everyone dorms for year one...then year 2 moves off campus. So at least the last 2 years you could have in state tuition which would save like what 60k or so probably.Aha, I didn't realize Downstate had dorms. Lol. You learn something new each day. But yea, you can't claim dorm as "permanent residence" so it makes sense. Barring that though, getting IS tuition in New York is very easy after year with off-campus rent lease or even utility bill.
they make cali rates look cheap...ask dw 🙁...but i guess apparently people just pack like 4 into a 2 bedroom or something to make it manageable...at least thats what ive been told by a few??I've heard NYC apartments are crazy expensive. I wonder what the rates are.
I've heard NYC apartments are crazy expensive. I wonder what the rates are.
They are most likely referring to Manhattan prices. They are expensive and SMALL.A one-bedroom goes for $2,200.😀
Apartments are much cheaper in Brooklyn. You can even find a two-bedroom for $1100 - $1300.
😱. Wow, and I thought I had it bad here.![]()
There are some bargains though. If you move up further into Manhattan (from 90th to 130th street and beyond) you can find something in the mid to upper 1000s. But those areas are not really safe and some don't have elevators so you have to "walk-up".
I'd stick to Brooklyn if you're going to Downstate. The good about NYC is that the trains can take you anywhere you want. So you really don't have geographic limitation.
As a proud upper, upper Manhattan resident, I would argue that it's super safe, i.e. as safe as any major city gets in the lovely USA. Also, LOL @ "walk-up."😀 I don't know any of my friends in Brooklyn with elevators. Walking is NYC life, up, down, and sideways. But Brooklyn is great, very nice housing deals to be had on decent places, especially if you have roommates and split a carved-up 2 or 3 bed. What you will not get is space. Your room with be a closet, but you'll be happy.
And, you'll probably want to live very close to campus for the 1st year. Commuting from where I live to Downstate is about 1.5 hours on a good day. So, better not to stress about which trains are working that day.
Good luck to those interviewing, probably see some of you there!

So for OOS peeps, is JFK the closest airport to Downstate?
you in the heights, or inwood? either way, 👍
and to the bolded-- YES. (although i just moved into a doorman building with an elevator)
for the question about taking 3 months or longer off, should I fill this out if I took a medical withdrawl for a semester? Or just leave it blank?
I would err on the side of caution and do it.
Downstate has put a lot of people on hold with "requests for more information" for other "gaps" that do not meet the requested criteria.
Putting it on there may save you from the RFI pugatory.

I sent my stuff to them at the end of last week, so maybe they just haven't received it yet. But what caught my eye was this part: "All required documents MUST be postmarked February 1, 2010."
Um, wha? Did I miss that on the app.? Since when did everything have to be postmarked? Is this news to anyone else?
Well, you have to postmark your Supplemental app and your check.
...I thought postmarked meant the date it was mailed...the post office postmarks it...right? That is the stamp on the envelope. You do not have to do it yourself.

So did you postmark your app and check? If so, where did you read to do this? This is the first I'm hearing of it.

The post office postmarks the envelope...don't worry about it. False alarm!
Really? It seems like you'd have to ask them to postmark it, otherwise how would they know to do so, right?
I'll give them a call later this afternoon. It just seemed like a random thing for them to tell me. Perhaps they meant must be postmarked BY Feb., as in they don't accept apps dated after that date. That seems more likely.
Thanks guys.
the post office does it...look on your mail...that is the red stamp that they put over the stamp.
As someone who at times mails her electric bills the day they are due and does not actually have a late fee because the post office puts the postmark date on there, I assure you, you are worrying about something that is taking care of by the united states postal system.
The feb 10th thing is that they do not need the app by feb 10th, they need the post office to stamp it by then...which they do
Serenity now! You are taken care of! I just called today and mine is complete, the post office did not fail me!
As the son of a faithful Post Office Employee, a postmark is the stamp that says that the date the mail was sent. Its just an insurance that if something gets effed up at USPS, you did your part to get it mailed on time. When downstate says they want it postmarked by a certain date, they want you to have sent it or gotten that time stamp before that date. Haha the post office will never stamp for a future date.😀 I think we're talking about different things. The post office stamps the date that your mail was sent. They don't postmark it, meaning they don't stamp it with some future date, like Feb. 1. The email stated that everything must be postmarked Feb. 1, which must just be a typo. I'm sure everything is kosher. 😉
Hey, does anyone know if Downstate offers discounts on any hotels in the area?

Yes...agreed. they are missing the word "by"
I see what you mean. They postmark it with the day it gets in the hands of the postal system

Either way, you are home free! No need to make any crazy markings am I right or am I right?
Congrats to everyone who is getting interviews? When were ya'll complete?
Yeah, but I think you have to mention Downstate at the hotels. I'm going to wait for word about student host program before deciding whether to book a hotel or not.
Downstate does offer a student host program. All you need to do is let Ilana Levine know when you confirm your interview date and she'll see what she can do. Right now they are in the process of recruiting hosts.
