Good luck Doctorj JR. Hope we will receive the good news. I believe TTU is sending pre match letters - atleast thats what i see on some forums.

Good luck to you, rv1!!! I heard that we are going to get emails (this wk maybe), but either way, I hope both of us will get pre-offers soon! TTU is my 1st choice!!! 🙂

I'm pretty sure they will be via email.

More than likely you will have a PhD and a clinician MD/DO. Your interviews will almost definitely be laid back, not stressful. They just want to get to know you!!

:luck: Good Luck!

I think tech also does quite a bit of interviews with MS3's and 4's... Or at least mine was (I had an MS4 and a PhD).

The Interview day was really relaxed, and people at tech were by far the friendliest out of the places I've been. Find where your interviews are EARLY- the med center/hospital is a maze if you're not familiar with it. I am somewhat directionally challenged, so I got lost twice. But I asked for help and both people not only told me where to go, they walked me all the way to my destination. Also had 2 attendings and a couple MS1s go out of their way to say hi. It was great.

👍 I still get lost haha. It's ridiculous.

I always try to walk people to their interviews, someone did that for me while I was here and it was so helpful. Glad you met some friendly people while here, we are definitely proud of the school. 😀

Haha, I remember I was lost looking for my first interview and ran into some students. I ran into one and he couldn't find it and then we ran into another, etc. Eventually we had like 4 of us looking for the office. None of us could find it. lol It was pretty funny.

Aggie, I am having a really tough time with Tech! Of all the schools I interviewed at, it was the school I felt most at home. I guess my huge concern is that you don't spend 4 years in Lubbock, I've never been to Odessa or Amarillo. What are you thoughts on this...they said not a lot of spots are in Lubbock for 3 and 4th years, and they try and save that for families.

Aggie's from near amarillo, so she can probably tell you a lot more too, but as a person who is heading to amarillo in a year and a half, i thought i'd throw another opinion in here!

the "not a lot of spots" is really relative. No, there' aren't 140 (or whatever y'all's class size will be), but there are way more in lubbock than the other two facilities. Fact: the majority of your class will stay in lubbock. AND there are definately more lubbock spots than there are "familied" students. We have lots of classmates that are staying in lubbock without spouses/kids/etc.

so bottom line: if you really really want to stay in lubbock, you have a shot. (and i don't have any hard evidence to support this, but it kinda seems like for the most part the people in our class who got in match/prematch all got their first choice, while the waitlisters kinda took whatever was available... though someone more knowledgable than me may want to weigh in here). And the office of student affairs here REALLY REALLY tries to put everyone where they want to be.

furthermore, there will undoubtedly be quite a few in your class who are like me: actually wanting to go to amarillo or permian basin. (i want to do ob/gyn, and amarillo is the place to be for that field.) I've been there a few times to visit, and the town seems to have a very similar feel as lubbock, minus the undergrad campus. i dont know much about midland/odessa, but my classmates heading that way seem pretty content with their assignment.

so long story short, i wouldn't let something like 3/4th year locations be a huge concern... it's certainly not a deal breaker.

I am really happy to hear you liked our school. I absolutely love TTUHSC. I grew up in the Panhandle in a small town North of Amarillo and seriously hated it. I never, ever wanted to come back to the Panhandle. Lubbock and Amarillo are way different than living in a little town that is an hour from a Chilis or Mall, though. Amarillo is a good town with all the amenities you need and without the traffic. 🙂 There are quite a few spots, like maggie mentioned, for Lubbock during 3rd and 4th year. More people will stay here than will leave. People with families are definitely given preference (as I believe they should be, moving can be tough on kids and equally tough on spouses who would have to find a new job), but that doesn't mean you must have a family to stay. I am not too familiar with Midland-Odessa, so I can't offer my opinion there, but I think most would be fine in Amarillo (especially since it's only 2 years!). The training there is great and the town is a good size.

If you are really worried about this I suggest you email Linda Prado. Our school is great and they would never want anyone to be pushed away due to the 3rd and 4th year second campuses. I definitely do understand how this can be a negative, but I haven't heard a single report of someone that is unhappy in Amarillo or El Paso (they haven't sent the 3rd years to Midland yet, that will start our 3rd year).

As a side note, as maggie has alluded to people who want to do OB/GYN or surgery tend to preferentially pick Amarillo due to the programs there and in Midland there are no residents (I don't think).

Thanks for the responses...I have nothing against Amarillo or Odessa, I love small towns. I'd just feel foolish really enjoying what I saw at TT in Lubbock and never even stepping foot in those cities and end up hating it.

This is going to be a really tough decision overall. I wish we had longer to decide.

For those of you that interviewed on 11/13, has Tech shown up on your school match preference on the TMDSAS site yet?

You probably don't need to worry about it... You do have until January 15th you know 🙂. It will show up soon if it hasn't already.

Does anyone know anything about more pre-match offers? Does Tech send out a couple of small waves in December or do they really wait until the match now? Do you think Linda Prado would tell me if I asked her? I have pretty much accepted that I won't know until February, but I can't get rid of that ounce of hope that makes me check my email entirely more than is necessary!

I loved Texas Tech. One interview lasted an hour and the other for 45 minutes. The only thing I really worry about is that my second interviewer was a PhD and he pointed out my weakness- not much research experience. But I responded by saying that I will be working in a clinical oncology research lab starting in December.

Sorry for the long post, I just really would like to know if I still have a chance at pre-match...:xf:

Has anyone received an interview invite after Nov. 19th?

i know they're still interviewing, because a friend of mine just got an invite to interview on dec 11th. (not sure what date she got the invite though, but it's been within the last few days.)

We have to pay for our background check...suck. 🙂

yep.
and in july you'll have to pay for your own immunizations.
and the name tags are red, which clash with maroon t-shirts.
and the door at the west entrance to the med school is way too hard to open with one hand unless you're some sort of body builder.

But dont worry, these are the ONLY drawbacks to Tech.

[and i'm serious: if you've been around SDN for a while, you might remember all the school bashing that was going on a couple of months ago in the RoT thread... our MS1/MS2 peers around the state had hate-lists a mile long about their school requiring this, and busywork-that, and sucky/arrogant professor this, and grading-scheme that... I thought about it all week and these four things were seriously all I could come up with.]

That door freakin' sucks.

Also some of the plug-ins in the MS1 room are crappy.
But the student affairs office always has coffee and candy. 🙂

It is refreshing to see people who are happy at their school. I'm trying t oset up a second look so I'll remember that door. 🙂

I have not heard from Texas Tech at all about an interview, which is frustrating. I am glad I have heard from a few Texas schools this year, but it's funny. I called and had an hour long conference with an admission's counselor at Tech in February of this year. I thought she really helped me and made several great points about things I could do to improve my app.

I actually did everything she asked me to do, and I sent 2 update letters this cycle letting them know about all I have been up to and how I improved my app. I wish they would give me a chance. Kinda crazy how this Texas interview process works!

Been verified since early sept and still no TX interviews yet. I have a 3.2sGPA/3.5cGPA and 32MCAT. Tech is my top choice. Please.... the wait hurts....

For those of you still waiting on an interview at Tech, there is still hope. I received my interview invite on Christmas Eve last year. I interviewed in January (last interview day) and matched to Tech. There is still hope! I love it here! If you have any questions feel free to ask. I see there are some non-trads on here too, so if you have any questions shoot. And, Happy Thanksgiving!

I sent you a PM. Let me know if you have any other ?

What exactly is a letter of intent? Is that a letter saying that you only want to attend Tech?

Anybody receive details on the scholarship? I got my acceptance packet snail mail today. It contained the accept/decline form, the CBC info, and the standards for curriculum completion packet. Nothing about the previously mentioned scholarship though...

I haven't received anything about the scholarship yet either...was hoping it would be in the mailed packet.

doesn't necessarily mean anything... as someone said earlier, almost everyone gets at least something small.

i didn't apply for one, nor did I go through the financial aid process (which is how most people found out about theirs), nor did I get a letter about it / info in my acceptance packet (which is how another fairly large portion of people found out)... yet, out-of-nowhere, a mysteriously appearing $1000 scholaship showed up on my fee statement in august when I went to pay my tuition. And there are a couple of other people in my class that had the same story.

so i wouldn't be bummed that you haven't gotten details about it yet. (actually I still never have gotten any documentation as to where it came from, etc.)
Although the scholarships are a big deal to us as students--let's be honest $1000 is a really really big deal at this point in our lives--I think they're just kinda not a top priority for adcoms at this point. (I mean, come on, they're still trying to weed through applications and hand out interviews still!!!😀)

So, if I were you, I'd just kinda pretty much, uh, i hate to say "expect", but you know: just kinda know that you're very likely to see some $$ at some point.
But as far as expectations of seeing explicit information about it in the next few months? i'd put those on the back burner, if not get rid of them altogether. 😎

EDIT- oh! and happy 500 posts canjosh!! :hardy:

Haha, I hadn't noticed I'd reached the 500 club! My acceptance email said that I was being awarded a scholarship, with details to follow. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't something that was supposed to be in the packet. Either way, it won't make a difference in my feelings about Tech!

is anyone out there who got their pre match offers from TTU who took their interview on 11/13!

Has there been a second wave (or slight drizzle) of pre match offers since the first ones?

I have been wondering the same thing! I hope not, because I haven't gotten one...

When did you interview? I could probably go back and read through the threads to find out but I'm feeling lazy. I interviewed on 9/11 so I was probably already passed over for a pre match but who knows...

EDIT: Interviewed October 30th... :xf:

Sorry, I got mixed up because I was also in Lubbock at the end of September to see a friend. Ha!

Nope, I'm from Houston and flying in on Thursday. How do you like Lubbock? 🙂
Great family environment. i am married with a kid so that is very important to me.

That's great to hear! I'm also married, but no kids. It's nice to know my husband won't feel completely lost in a sea of med students  He already gets enough of that from me, I'm sure!

I'm sure this has all ready been discussed ad nauseam, but does anyone know what percentage of the tech's class is filled through the pre-match?

They will do more match than a lot of other schools. Don't worry yet.

The interview went great.....and the waiting continues..............🙂

Congrats!

I think we actually talked a bit first thing in the morning at the interview -- I don't know if it helps or jogs your memory, but I was the tall white married girl from Houston with a pink messenger bag who stood around in that 'meet and greet' 9-945am session in the morning with you and a few other people.

Anyway, if you're the person I'm thinking of (and even if you're not!) good luck and hope Lubbock works out for you! 😀

Yes Dr. Hiner, i think i remember u also, with the glasses right? i just love everything about Tech and ofcourse am biased coz i live in Lubbock. i really hope u get accepted to houston or where u are rooting for. u seem to be such a nice lady to talk to. How do u think the interview went and where is tech on ure list? God Bless u and have a wonderful day...

The wait continues....

Haha, yep I was the one with the glasses 🙂

Tech really surprised me! Initially I was kind of scared of small town Lubbock, because I've lived so much of my life in Houston, but everyone was SO friendly 😍

I think the interview day went well... I was asked some good questions and made to justify my opinions on things, which is nice. I like some intellectual "debate"!

Currently, Tech is #2 on my list, though only for the sake of my husband needing/wanting a bigger airport than Lubbock's, but I'm happy at either UTMB or Tech when it boils down to it. The curriculum style is right up my alley and doesn't seem too dissimilar from UTMB 🙂

How do you think your interview day went? :luck: It was really great talking to you too, and best of luck with Tech! I'm sure your healthcare experience will be extremely beneficial to you!!

i sure will have to pay someone for scripe services when i get to Tech coz i sure can't type for the life of me..lol.
