Meh. That makes it slightly more bitter not to get an interview granted.

So someone at Tulane must be reading this board and taking pity on me...cuz less than 24 hours after giving up hope, I got my interview invite today. Submitted my app first week of Sept, received my complete email 11/13, interview scheduled for 1/11. So I guess there is still hope...thanks to those of you who canceled 🙂. Now here's hoping the class isn't full by the time I interview...cuz that'd just be cruel.

Nice! And congratulations 🙂

Accepted 12/18, interviewed on 12/11. SO EXCITED, my first acceptance! I really wanted to stay here in New Orleans and my dream has come true!!

Congratulations to everyone accepted!

Are there really no more interviews? How unfortunate for me 🙁

Also... is there any way to find out my status without calling the office? I can't figure it out on their website. Do they have anything equivalent to a "hold"?

If they aren't interviewing much now, should I expect a rejection soon?

Just a little update:

I interviewed last Monday (December 14th) down at Tulane. I received a call yesterday from Dr. Beckman (the 18th) telling me I had been accepted, I checked my e-mail later that day and also had the acceptance E-mail. In addition; She did indeed tell me that the class/interview schedule was basically full at this point and that the only forthcoming interviews which would be handed out were for spots from already scheduled interviews that get cancelled. She also mentioned that she thought the incoming class was an amazing group of kids.

Aside from that I'm really excited; I've been working my butt off for 3 years straight now and all the hard work has paid off. Tulane was an AMAZING school and New Orleans was an awesome place (cheers to the kids that went down to burbon street to have some beers after interviews) and it is at the very top of my list. Best of luck to everyone.

does anybody know if the office of admissions is open on monday?

my amcas address lists my school address and i obv need my letter sent to my home address. i suppose i could just email dr. beckman?

Thanks in advance.

congrats again to all those accepted!

I'm thinking the same thing. Congrats everyone on the acceptances! It's a little depressing that I guess they never got to my application though and that I don't have any hope for an interview here. Oh well, who knows.

also interviewed on the 14th and just got in yesterday by email!! i really liked the school after my interview/tour, now just have to make the really tough decision between my two favorites. unfortunately.. tulane is about twice as much money annually..

hear you about the price. But I dont think I care, my top two choices are now tulane and an OOS public school. I feel I will be coming to Tulane.

On that note, does anyone have any experience applying to Sophas for the dual MD / MPH degree??

I am about to start working on that

Thanks

Congrats 🙂 What do you guys think...at this point are we interviewing for waitlist spots? I was super excited to get my interview invite last week, after giving up hope based on feedback around here, but it's going to put a serious damper on my party if the class really is full already...

This news about the class being full makes no sense and really upsets me if it is true. I'll skip the pity party and just say that I finished my application as soon as I could, completed Nov 1st. Still a full month and a half for the deadline.

Their application explicitly states:
"To ensure full consideration, all required material must be received electronically in our office, no later than January 15, 2010"

Now, I do not at all consider this full consideration if all the interview slots are taken and the class is "full." It is almost as insulting as Duke offering me an interview, but not having any spots available (calling fixed that one). Does anyone have any additional information?

I finished by the 1st of November, too, and still haven't heard back! Whenever I call to check on my status though, their "system is down." This has happened the last 3 times I called. My friend, who just got an acceptance from Tulane, was saying the same thing about the class being full. I really hope they're kidding; it isn't fair to take our money and not even look at our applications if we applied well within the deadline!

Well, I think every interview is for a potential spot, whether early or late in the season. Like most every school, Tulane will most likely have to pull some folks from its waitlist when it comes to actually filling the class come May/June. And, are we really sure what 'full' means? Have they accepted all ~200 (with new BR expansion)? And, if they have, won't they over-accept a bit anyway?

I hope that you're able to get an outright acceptance, but the class is only full when classes start, so good luck on your interview day!

hate to be an ass but define "fair"

We're paying money for a service. The service is the reading and consideration of our application materials. They should not accept payment for services they cannot render, if in fact this is the situation.

Not that it matters to moan about it, but it's not good business. And no, it's not "fair."

👍 Yup. If you can't even look at our application, don't take our money.

you don't know if, in fact, this is the situation (that the class is full), do you? you're relying on double and triple hearsay relayed by people on an internet forum. I seriously doubt that the good ppl at Tulane are sitting in the admissions office, making "ka-ching" sounds whenever another secondary fee rolls in, and deleting your secondary essays. it's common knowledge that applying early is key at rolling schools like Tulane; the later you apply, the less likely you are to get in, but it's a stretch to say that schools are taking your money and giving you absolutely no consideration. as others have already stated above, the class is not truly full until orientation/first day of class. you haven't done yourself any favors by applying so late in the cycle, but you also don't do yourself any favors by making baseless accusations. best of luck to you!

yeah, I said IF that is the situation.

😎

I think the idea of "rolling" is especially key at a school like Tulane. Per more hear-say, my understanding is that the dean of admissions personally reviews each file herself...which would explain why our files are reviewed so maddeningly slowly. If she does, it makes perfect sense that she would review them--and grant invites--in the most fair manner possible: in the order that they come in. So if she finds enough wonderful applications before, say, december/january, it's entirely possible that the class would be "full" so early...before all applications are reviewed. That's the position you put yourself in when you complete your application later...you're essentially lining up, and when you're that far back in a line with such great competition, you've lowered your chances.

That said, I also agree that this is total hear-say about the class actually being full, and that we have not clearly defined what we mean by "full." Full could just mean they've offered acceptances to all seats in the class--it does by no means count the people that will decline and go elsewhere, which will likely be significant. I'm going into the interview with the mentality that if Tulane is the right school for me--and I don't screw it up--I have a good chance at getting in, regardless of these internet rumors. And if you haven't been granted an interview yet....hang in there, many more cancellations/withdrawals will occurs throughout the cycle. I'm pretty sure that's how I got my interview, so it clearly is happening, and if you're a good fit, you'll likely get your chance.

Sorry to start such a ****storm with my question about interviewing for waitlist positions 🙄. In answer to my own question...I'm just glad I'm getting a chance, and I plan on making the most of it either way 🙂

I had an interview on Nov. 20 and really loved Tulane, but I still haven't heard back yet from them. I e-mailed Dr. Beckman twice, one right after the interview as a LOI and again recently as a follow-up. Does anyone know why I wouldn't have heard back from them yet? I would think that if they were unsure that they would put me on a waitlist. Oh well, hoping for the best :xf:

Has anybody received any information packet/or anything after their acceptance to Tulane?

Nope. Not here at least. Idk why, but I'm mentally expecting something in February. There is no basis for this expectation, lol.

I received a regular sized envelope with a 1 page e-mailing detailing how to reserve my seat in the class and when the deadline for submitting my deposit was, that was two days ago.

It was sort of scary because the envelope came sort of beat up and only had a single page inside, I thought it was a rejection letter and that there had been some sort of mix up.

when were you accepted?

I would email Dr. Beckman explaining the situation, I bet it will be worked out.

For those who interviewed/accepted, do you guys remember where they said most of the students lived? I can't seem to remember how student housing worked around here. I can't find anything online or in the interview folder.

I believe the two most popular areas were the Garden District (over by the undergrad campus) and Marigny. I loved both. The Garden District is GORGEOUS and Marigny has a lot of artsy culture and coffee shops built into it. (sidenote: loved the little coffee shops there)

Hardcore - I got 10 of those and only interviewed at 5 places.

Haha I got 10 too so I just wanted to make sure they were all for Tulane.

I have gotten ten of them, too. Tulane is very thorough, I guess...maybe they once admitted a convicted murderer or something?🙂

uh oh! I only got 1 for Tulane.
where are my other 9!!! 😛

Yep 10 also. I guess Tulane wants a REAL thorough check 😀

Nope, that would be Boston University Medical Center that holds that most recent honor. I think we're ok at Tulane...

They do have a student host program. Good luck to you guys!

def do the student host program, i had a great experience with it. I wish I would have done more hosts throughout the season.
