Haha I think it's a great selling point.....

I guess it might be for people from OOS. But I'm pretty used to it.

In case you people are wondering, you can buy a daquiri and drive around with it in your car, and it does not count as an open container unless you put the straw through the lid. I think it's a hilarious law because there's nothing stopping you from taking the top off and drinking and then putting it back on.

I also interviewed on the 20th and didn't hear anything yesterday. Does that mean that I am either rejected or in the acceptable range, or is it possible that they don't get through everyone?

It's random. Some people are accepted in 4 days, some as long as 4 weeks.

they say 2-3 weeks.
It has been one. Relax 🙂

Accepted today from the acceptable pool. All it took was three years, two cycles, 102 applications, and $$$$$. Do well in school, kids.

Determination pays off.

Wow, that's awesome. I'm in the acceptable pool so this really gives me hope now

i feel like if we went through just this forum we would find more than 177 who got accepted already to tulane.

this school takes rolling seriously, almost ballistically

Sorry to hear that! If you don't mind me asking, when were you complete? I'm still waiting to hear back from them :scared:.

Don't worry about rejections too much. This school is very specific to a certain breed of medical students. If this is the right school for you, it will be fairly obvious and they do a good job of selecting these applicants out of the secondaries for interviews. If you are not a great fit for this school, you will have a very had time justifying the ~$48,000 a year tuition unless you don't have to borrow much to attend and you really like New Orleans.

Don't get me wrong I think Tulane is a great medical school, but only for the right applicant. I didn't get the feeling that I was right for this school and I was wait listed after my interview. Every other student on my interview day, however, absolutely loved it.

I would like to second this also. The "fit" is very big for this school and they want a really diverse class as well. I loved it here. But I got the feeling that the essays, EC's, and interviews are HUGE here compared to just the numbers.

I'm not getting this feeling yet 🙁

I fit. I love it here. I actually also happen to have numbers. And everything else they seem to like. Yet no love. why, why the cracks?

I'll agree here. Def. about fit. The interviewers made that obvious. I really think the interview plays a larger role here than at most places.

When did you apply? I think it's rolling admissions so that could be a problem too.

Also I'm not too sure how this school handles update letters/loi's, but if you are truly a great fit, I think you should let them know. They also like genuine interest in their program

i submitted in september. i got the ''you are complete'' mail in november.

i sent dr. beckman a nice email about why I was so excited about Tulane and hearing back, and different ways by which I am just intrigued with how well the fit would work, and how much I'd love to stay in New Orleans and be a part of the positive growth.

she didn't reply.

Hmm...I'm not too sure what to make of that. Just keep your chin up. And pray for the best. :xf:

Don't worry. She didn't actually reply to me either when I sent a letter of interest. When I got a call to schedule my interview, however, it was obvious that she initiated it.

medhearter, we could be twins...your story sounds EXACTLY like mine. I even emailed too to say how interested I was, and no reply for me either. I'm really not sure...I agree with everyone so far about how important fit is with Tulane...I just wish Tulane and I saw eye-to-eye on our fit 🙁. I'm still hoping tho...if we only got out complete emails a month ago there's still time for some love 🙂.

I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111

Holy crap. First acceptance and it feels so good. I'm in the same boat as koko_eats, minus one of those extra years and about 20 fewer total schools.

Interviewed 11/20. I did send a letter of interest after my interview. If you really want to get in here, I'd advise that you do the same.

Good luck to everyone else!

Congrats. I got in today too, interviewed mid November.

I also sent an interest letter. yay!

I'm a little weirded out because I get the same selectivity sense from Tulane about its applicant pool, and yet I've been complete for ages and haven't been rejected or otherwise. With all the people who already heard back, it's really weirding me out. Any idea what to make of it? Should I call? ???

If you haven't been rejected, that's a good sign. I think this school is pretty quick to reject people as it has already sent them out in batches.

Rejected yesterday, completed in Oct, no interview 🙁

I think the consensus is that pre-interview calls will get you nowhere.

Woo just got a call, invite for this monday! I sent an update letter three days ago and Dr. Beckman replied, so maybe that had something to do with it...

Update letters or calls or interest can't hurt and I think they really do work with this school. It worked for a couple of my friends who are first years now and it certainly worked for me. Show your love for Tulane...Good luck!

And big congrats to the new acceptees! Look forward to possibly meeting this summer!

i snail mailed. should i have e-mailed dr. beckman?

I think an e-mail would be easier, it seems that it is checked daily. I just sent it to the admissions e-mail address but Dr. Beckman replied so they must forward interest letters to her.

Hi guys, how long after the notification of acceptance from Dean Kahn will they send the official letter of acceptance? I'm anxious because I want to have that letter in my hand and mark a big fat YES I WILL GO HERE. 😀

Pre-Interview rejection today, secondary sent early October. I really liked Tulane and this one hurts. 🙁

Also got the pre-interview rejection. Such a bummer.

I know Tulane says their MCAT deadline is 8/31, but does anyone know if they will even look at a second MCAT score from September? I wasn't ready to take the MCAT until 8/21 and I took it again on 9/3 just because I had a suspicion that it didn't go well. 27 the first time, 32 the second.

Anyway, I am wondering if this rejection could be a result of only considering the first score and not even looking at the September one. Any thoughts?

Man, first rejection of the cycle and this one stings a little bit. I really like Tulane and was hoping to get an interview. Oh well, I'll just have to focus more so on the other schools as of now. 🙁 I was also complete in the middle of October, so they must have sorted through a BUNCH of apps..

Took me three days from e-mail to receipt in DC. The thin envelope is a bit anticlimatic.

really?? i hope that is true . . . i've been complete for quite a while and have not heard a thing yet. (unless the rejection went in my spam folder . . . do they email or snail mail it??) anyway i would love a chance here. i'm a big believer in the 'fit' thing and i think i would love Tulane. Oh well. We're only halfway through the cycle!!

and congrats, koko!!!! I have been rooting for you, but without an MdApps it's hard to keep track. i just happened to pop into this thread today and see your post. it's so cool to not only get in, finally, but to get in somewhere you really truly love. i am so happy for you.

and like kia ora said . . . what will koko eat now?? (daquiris and gumbo??) 😉

If you feel as though you fit well, make sure to let Dr. Beckman know that. Send a letter of interest (I think it helps). Good luck

pre-interview? really?

i think it's actually hard to gauge fit unless you actually go somewhere. i thought i was going to love MCW, but I only felt so-so about it. i had no expectations about Rush, and loved it. Tulane, I THINK I would like a lot but I don't want to write a letter professing that, only to go there and change my mind, ya know?? 🙂 i have a feeling this is why schools aren't so interested in pre-interview letters of interest.

but if you think it would help . . . maybe i will anyway!!

I am pretty sure that before my letter they looked at my file and were like "who is this weird chick?"
I really think it helps. My situation is a bit different because I've been to NOLA many times and considered Tulane for undergrad before Katrina. It really is an amazing place though-if you feel like you would regret not seeing it-I'd strongly advice you to fight for an interview.

Thanks so much! I'm really glad to have finally made it and I hope after the cycle is over, I can offer some inspiration to others with my MDapps.

Koko will always find something to eat, and despite the acceptance, there are still plenty of letters to work her way through 🙂

Good luck to you, BTW. I second sending Dr. Beckman an e-mail and please let us know what happens!
