School turns?
How'd you become a spokesman? Did they start talking about SDN and your S/N came up?

Give me some D's!!! So I can feel like I was there...man, I wish I was there...🙁

Oh at the interview room I was just talking about SDN and someone know who I was based from my SDN name lol. But I do hope everything works out and they did say they are still doing more interviews so hang in there.👍

I know everyone is getting super antsy about hearing from Drew...and I'm so far behind most of you all in this process that I feel silly even stressing about it right now, but here's my conundrum guys: Drew is absolutely my number 1 choice; I would drop any other acceptance I had if Drew gave me a spot...even the day before class started. I not only feel it's the right program for me, but I'm very committed to my community here in LA, and although I know I can put down roots elsewhere...currently my roots and my heart are here. I'd be willing to wait patiently on a decision, except that money is a very significant issue for me in med school--I'm basically the sole provider in my family right now. Because of that, I made the decision to sign up for a special program through the Army National Guard. It's a significant amount of money--enough to pay for med school and ease the financial strain with my family--but enrollment is very limited (actually, the situation is a lot more complicated than that, but for simplicity's sake, let's just say the sooner I sign up, the more likely I am to get the money). In order to sign up for the program, you have to have an acceptance in hand from a med school in the state in which you intend to do it. So looong story short, I really need to know where I am going, the sooner the better, say April at the absolute latest, so that I can begin the paperwork.

My question is, at what point would it be appropriate to contact Drew and let them know 1.) my strong interest in their program, and 2.) my situation with regard to needing a decision soon for financial reasons? I am pre-interview...submitted my secondary only 2 weeks ago, so I know I am very much ahead of myself. Problem is, it's nearly February, and most med schools don't drag this out nearly so long 🙁 I have an acceptance already from my #2 choice (not in CA), which I am thrilled about, but like I said, I would drop it in a heartbeat if Drew gave me a spot. Do you think Drew would be receptive to the situation, and to possibly, ahem, reviewing my application with all possible haste?

Have you thought about the Army or Navy? I doubt they have the same state restrictions and they both give signing bonuses.

You have great ECs by the way.

The first thing that came to mind is what islandprincess suggested, though the repayment can turn into a somewhat lengthy process and you can be limited to certain locations of the US or worst case scenario somewhere oversees. If this is an issue, you'd have to consider what is more important to you: the chance of an acceptance at Drew (with funding through the Army or Navy etc.) or the perks of the other program you have written about. It seems like a decision you may have to pose to your family to find out what they are potentially comfortable with as well.

Have you read past threads to see if they are receptive to pre-interview updates? If they are, then go for it. If you're not sure, you could contact Sandy and get a feel for whether they would look on it favvroably. Otherwise, I would give them the four weeks that they ask for. If they reject you, you can get started with your other acceptances. If they invite you for an interview, then you can lay out your situation and your desire at the interview and post-interview.

I don't know that rushing an adcom has worked in anyone's favor. Good luck!

Ok, thanks everyone...that's good advice. Really, I just need to calm down. Waiting after January sucks, haha.

Has anyone heard anything lately? Anything about the next interview date?

Any interviewed applicants hear anything??? I interviewed back in October and have heard zip!!!!!

Same, October interview for MSTP and haven't heard a thing. They said admissions decisions will go out on March 15 for us, but a friend of mine interviewed this month and they told him February. I just hope it's sooner rather than later! 🙂

hey guys,
just got off the phone with sandy from CDU (love her - she's so nice!) and she said admissions decisions haven't been made yet for people in my batch (i interviewed in mid-nov) but she expects the decisions to go out in about 2 weeks.

also, they do accept update letters via email or snail mail. for emailing, send to [email protected]

good luck to all!!

guess i spoke to soon. i just got the call from sandy that i've been accepted!!!!

OMGOMGOMGOMG SO EXCITED!!!!!

Wow, Congratulations! I'm sure you feel like flying by now 🙂
Did you send any update letters before you got your acceptance call?

Talk about freaking out every time my phone will ring for the next few weeks! 🙂)

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! When I was on the phone, as soon as I heard the words "congratulations you've been accepted", I couldnt hear anything else she said afterwards... haha.... and i couldn't stop squealing after i hung up! lolol

anyways, to answer your questions, my app was complete late sept and i interviewed on Nov 14. i didn't send any update letters and had zero communication with drew after my interview, other than the thank you notes i sent out. i was actually about to send an update letter today and even had it all written up, but i guess i don't need to send one now!

drew is my first acceptance. can't believe it, i'm going to med school!!! 😀😀😍😍

Congratulations twistqueen!!! I interviewed on the same day as you!!! Hopefully I'll be getting that phone call too =)

Hey congrats twistqueen! I was wondering if your status page also happened to change, or if you think it will change in two weeks when all the acceptances go out.

Thanks!

Congrats twistqueen!

Any news from those who interviewed in October?

Congratulations, twistqueen!!! :highfive:

Going off of dosaq's question, did you send anything to Drew pre-interview??

My status page still says that the decision is pending. But Sandy said I can expect to receive written notification of acceptance in the mail this week (when we spoke on monday, she said that it would be mailed out that day). I hope they didnt make a mistake and go "oops, didn't mean to call that one!"

Congratulations, twistqueen!!! :highfive:

Going off of dosaq's question, did you send anything to Drew pre-interview??

i didn't send anything to drew pre-interview other than my secondary application and LORs. i believe i got an interview invite about a month after i submitted my secondary.

I'm getting so nervous!!! Please please Drew call me. Does anyone know when all the acceptances will go out?

Reading last year's thread, some people weren't accepted until June. And that wasn't even people coming off of a waitlist.

Anyone hear anything yet about a Feb or March interview? I figure Feb people must have already heard something if there is a feb interview, and March should be hearing very soon. I would at least love an interview here so there could be some foundation for my neurotic love of Drew...

Hello everyone, I am new to SDN!!!

Congrats, Twistqueen!!!!!

Has anyone else on SDN been accepted to Drew? I interviewed in October and am eagerly- like everyone else🙂-waiting for a decision. Has Sandy given anyone a time frame in which notifications would be sent out? At the interview they said that we'd receive an email two weeks after UCLA's, but apparently that wasn't the case.

Thx!

So I called the admissions office today, because I interviewed in mid-nov and still haven't heard anything, and she told me that they haven't made a decision on my file yet...she said she'd give me a call when they have made a decision. I guess that means that I will continue to lose sleep over this whole process 🙁

At least you're still in the game. Some of us haven't even seen the ball. 😳

This waiting game truly sucks

I'm with you. I don't understand what's taking so long. I interviewed here back in October and it is almost March and still i've heard nothing. Yet I interviewed at UCSD in late January and knew in early February.....

I know it sucks guys, but think about it. TWENTY-FOUR acceptees total. At any given time. They do not over-accept. And they are still interviewing. I guess just be glad that you didn't get outright rejected post-interview. If that doesn't make you happy, you could just withdraw. Or send a letter letting them know that you will 10000% be there next year if they'd just accept you.

Just sayin'. It could be much worse.

True it could be a whole lot worse....but lol...it doesn't take away from the fact that waiting sucks lol. I'd rather them call my phone, my ringtone for Dean Calmes goes off ("Going back to Cali"-Big), and hear the words "Your accepted."

I couldn't imagine waiting from October. It's been one month now and killing me waiting for that phone call. I wonder if they even started looking at the January interviews yet.

Likewise, I interviewed in January and it is so hard

How do you know they ONLY accept 24 students? How could they not overaccept? There is no way everyone accepted ends up attending.

There's only 24 acceptances given out at any one time. So they'll give out the first 24 acceptances between say Jan-March. Then as people turn down their acceptances, they'll hand someone else another one. It's why it takes so long to hear from Drew; they don't do waitlists, they just make you wait. It's really kind of impossible to estimate how many acceptances Drew will give out in total, but I've heard numbers in the mid-30s, for whatever that's worth.

Hey btw, random question. I remember a bunch of you getting the "you will be notified by mail after November 15" back earlier in the fall, it seems like both pre and post-interview. I submitted my secondary in mid-january (they just sent me the primary in Dec.), and just got that message today. It sounds like a rejection, but just out of curiosity, did anyone who got that message get further news from Drew? I'm also a little miffed cuz it's clearly well past Nov. 15, so obviously I'll hear about my decision after that date, haha.

I still have the "please give us 4 weeks to go over your app" sign. I submitted my secondary god knows how long ago. I'm assuming either a rejection or hold???

I think you're still in the game. Mine sounds more like a rejection to me...getting stuff in the mail is never good. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that they take you off that obnoxious hold soon :luck:. And start packing my bags for the east coast...road trip!! 🙂 (trying to look at the bright side of things)

Quick question. Where did you get this information? After my interview I was given totally different information.
???

They told us we would get a decision two weeks after UCLA applicants received their decisions, which was on JANUARY 15th. I don't recall anything about Nov. 15.
Everyone seems to have been given different information.

Thanks!! It's ok...Who knows we might be future classmates at Tulane 🙂.

Did you get your letter? Because it's been about a month since UCLA sent out first acceptances.

MsTaco and I got our "intel" from last year's thread. You should read through it. It gives some pretty useful information, although no one can say 100% that what happened last year is what Drew always does. But, just telling from what's going on with people who already inteviewed this year, we're not too far off the mark.

I was talking about people much earlier in this thread...I'm pre-interview so I'm in a different game than most of you guys 🙂 A lot of people seemed to get the axe earlier this year via the "you will be notified after November 15" message....which is sort of an obtuse way to reject someone, especially when it's already 3 months after November 15, so I just wanted to verify that it was definitely a rejection.

Oh, I seeeee🙂 Guess I didn't read the thread thoroughly...sorry🙂
