Did you apply later than some of these other people or did your application just end up lost on the bottom of a pile somewhere?

Bottom of the pile I guess😕 I was complete in September.....I finally called to see what was up and shortly after got my interview invite. Good thing I called or I may have missed out since apparently this is the last day if interviews....

How are your GPA/MCAT? I have a friend who is interviewing on 3/31 and she was complete in August. She called a few times after that and they told her that her file was on hold. She said Shelley said they those with below average scores and non-residents are put on hold and possibly interviewed at the end of the year. Oh well, an interview is an interview! Good luck!

Probably non-residents without close ties. I'm a non-resident and when I applied two years ago, I interviewed with the EDP applicants, and this year I interviewed at the end of October.

USC is a weird place... I was accepted quickly at MUSC but they didn't appreciate me in columbia. I have some guesses as to why, but it doesn't matter as I'd rather be in Charleston anyways. Good luck to all the applicants and maybe I'll see you on the coast.

na i applied super early. as soon as the application opened it was sent it. My mcat is lower so I prob. got pushed down to bottom of pile. I'm a 3.6cum gpa/3.9 major gpa / 23 mcat

read the thread...there is some info back there...

but USC is really laid back and more about wanting to get to know you as a person...not really there to grill you...

show your passion for medicine!! Tell and show them how much you want to be there....

I have heard once you get an interview..you have a 50/50 shot...maybe not this late in the game...but it is still a shot!

Make the most out of it and get a spot!!

So I was doing some searching & apparently there are no USC SOM facebook groups. 🙁

Class of 2014 representing! lol

I'm applying for the class of 2015! I'm an MS student at USC SOM right now actually...how much do you think this might help?

I've been doing all the other things in order to apply (shadowing, volunteering, research, MCAT studying also) plus i have a 4.0 in my program.

Any thoughts?

I haven't ever posted on here before but I figured I would help out those that were in my position. I am oos applicant who went to school at clemson and this is my second year of applying. I interviewed on 2/10 and got a call today from Shelley Streeter that said I had been accepted to the class of 2014!! It just shows that persistence pays off. When I didn't get in last year I went and met with her, completed the things she told me I was missing and now I'm in. Good luck to all those that are still waiting...I thought things were looking down for the second year in a row but it just shows you never know when that call will come!

Congratulations!!! As a successful re-applicant myself I DEFINITELY understand how wonderful it feels to get that acceptance!!! Now you can relax and remember... you NEVER have to apply to medical school again!!! woo hoo!!!!!!😀

First time posting, but I know I've been checking and figured I'd help others out who interviewed recently. I Interviewed 2/3, got a call at 1:30 today from Shelley to tell me that I was accepted as well! Good luck to everyone else!

I received a letter yesterday inviting me to interview with their scholarship committee next month. One person gets awarded a scholarship worth $20k/year and 2-3 people will get full-tuition scholarships. They didn't say how many people they're interviewing.
Following up on this, so people applying next year have an idea:

The $20k/year scholarship is called the Fullerton. The full-tuition scholarship is the Carolina scholarship. One person will get the former; they're not exactly sure where they stand with funding for the latter, but two or three people will get it. Both scholarships are for all four years, provided a 3.0 GPA is maintained.

They had 8 people interviewed today, 16 more are scheduled for tomorrow. The interviews are 15 minutes long. The interviewing committee is made up of three students and three faculty members.

Did you fill out the scholarship application or did they just contact you about the scholarship?

They contacted me, and then I had to send in some application materials. They sent out the initial letters pretty early to give enough time for people to cancel, if they didn't want to come, so they could invite more applicants.

EDIT: Just got the call - awarded the Carolina Medical scholarship!

Congrats!!! That's such a great blessing!

Interviewed Feb 10th. Waitlisted today. 36Q, 3.53, OOS, lots of apparently worthless medically related experience. Current tally, 2 W/L, 0 acceptances. So depressed.

Hey,
First time poster, but I've been keeping up with this thread.. 🙂

I had an interview on 10/21 and got put on hold. I know they create a wait list after they finish up with interviews in March, but do they offer any acceptances too?? And say you do get wait listed, where on the wait list do you have to be to get a good chance of getting accepted in August??

Thanks in advance!!

Do you all know if South Carolina is done offering interview offers?

I'm not sure if they're done offering interviews but I do know that the last interview is on the very last Wednesday in March. I would call the school and see what the status of your application is.

Thats me...I have an interview on March 31 😀

I was originally scheduled for Mar 31 for an interview, and asked to be put on a list so as to be notified if any interview spots became open - got moved to Mar 3rd to interview as an out of state kid (w/ close ties). Received an acceptance e-mail early in the afternoon on Mar 5th!

Thanks for the help !!! I really appreciate it...and pray for me 🙂

i might ask to see if they will let me do that...i can't wait to go up there. I'm soooo excited.

Besides the poster up there who mentioned getting the full ride (I assume there are like 2 of those), does USC give much (any?) other sorts of scholarships/grants or does pretty much everyone pay full price? (For instate people)

I interviewed March 3rd and was accepted on March 5th as well.

Congrats! See you in August!

I know that last year, and again this year, Admissions will call those accepted on Friday following their interviews on Weds. Anyone hear anything today?

Is it a second look for those that are undecided about where to attend? My decision has been made, but I'll probably check it out anyway.

Yeah, it's both a second look for those that are undecided and also a chance to meet your future classmates. My decision is made too but I'm so excited! I will definitely be attending!

has anyone heard anything back from the interviews in late march? Shelley said we'd hopefully hear something back soon....

I have not and was thinking of giving her a call unless someone else has and can provide an update.....😕

If you interviewed at the end of march, expect to hear from them in the next 2 weeks even if you've been accepted. they are now reviewing those who have been put on hold so that's why you're not notified within the typical 2 days.

can someone please make a fb group for the 2014 class?

Am I the only one feeling really anxious? checking my email 4 times a day, waiting for the phone to ring...

You're not the only one, but from what I've heard you should be watching for the mailman. Has anybody heard anything about the USC wait list yet?

Working at a computer most of the day, I usually check my email 4 times before lunch!

I finally decided to contact the school to find out what was going on and I was informed that the Waitlist is still being compiled and it would likely be the end of April before letters are mailed. They also suggested I wait patiently!

However, I am not sure if this means that all additional acceptances have been offered and we can only expect to receive rejection or "Welcome to the Waitlist" letters.

Yeah, I called Shelley too and she said that the wait list will be done at the end of April. She also told me that all the offers for acceptances have already been made. I guess the best we can hope for at this point is to be wait listed 🙁 .

So, what I want to know now is how many people get wait listed, and roughly where on the wait list do you need to be to have a decent chance of getting an offer for admissions??

One thing I do not understand is that if all acceptances have been offered, and the waitlist is ranked 100% on each appplicant's committee score, why are we continuing to wait?

Based on most of the threads for specific schools, applicants have known their status for weeks, and many of these schools have similar timelines!

I realize there is no easy resolution, just taking this opportunity to vent - Thanks!
