Mention all of that in your secondary and you're sure to get in. Now if you don't mind, this thread must revert to blind speculation and desperate coddling of our hope that maybe one of us will be pulled off the waitlist in the next few weeks.

Lol. Well said.

👍

Mr.Eman;
Thanks for the info, and good to have you join in!

Ahh yes, another one joining the ranks. Mr. Eman, share your stats, IS/OSS?

Hopeful, where are you from originally?

By the way, I just called the admissions office and there are "150-200" students still on the waitlist... She "hasn't counted but there are two file drawers full of applications." So we had over 200 apps a few weeks ago, then they handed 54 out, minus some other withdraws here and there. We are probably around 175 or something. I find it hard to believe that they will keep us all on for the rest of the summer. We are obviously going to get more people accepted than last year (70 off the waitlist last year) but not enough to warrant keeping us all on the list.

But down to the facts: I just got off of the phone with the admissions office where I asked if the waitlist was to be cut again. They said that they were not planning on it, and that everyone on the list is "acceptable" (hooray, I'm acceptable!).

So this could potentially be a long wait for some people. God i hope I'm not one of those people🙁

You know how sometimes schools send a rejection letter saying " sometimes we have to deny qualified applicants " bla bla bla ...
I wonder if that's what the admission lady told Mr.Eman as an everyday answer to make us feel better. Right now I'm in a stage where I am so skeptical about everything. But don't worry I'm pretty my mood will change tmrw into optimism and the day after suicidal or whatever. Lol

Me neither. I hope none of us have to wait that long. If I was at the bottom of the list with minimal chance, I'd rather be removed from the wait list than have to endure an ultimately fruitless summer.

p.s. - enjoy the exploding smileys. :boom: :boom: :boom: :boom:

I must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed or something this morning...I've been in a MOOD :meanie:. I think it's the fact that there has been quite a bit of waitlist movement...and no good news 🙁. I also would rather be rejected now if I were at the bottom of the 150-200, instead of spending the next couple months holding onto false hope.

IS, 28(M?), 3.83...however, I think one of the only reasons i'm still on is because I'm a Wayne State Alum 😀

And originally from Madison Heights. I actually had a view of Oakland General Hospital (before it was St John Oakland) from my house when I was there as a kid. We also had alot of :spam: in our pantry (just wanted to use that)

But I agree with you, I find it very hard to believe that they will keep all of us on all summer.

I know a lot of what we say here is mostly based on loose facts and everything else is merely guesstimates at best. Not that this is any consolation, but I really do think they'll cut the list down eventually. If not, I think it can be taken as good news, because the ADCOM probably thinks we'll be needed. They WANT to cut down the list; they did it at least twice last year, and once already this year. The more people that are on the waitilist, the more people that will call to annoy them. If the list doesn't get down to 100ish in the next couple of weeks, I think we can expect a cut. It will probably be minor, but I think it will happen.

P.S. I've thought about this a dozen times already... but I'd hate to be one of the ones that gets cut after I'm the one always talking about it.

Just called the admissions office. They said that there are more than 200 on the waitlist and that the peoportion of IS to OOS is 50:50 which is surprising bcuz there should be more instaters. But I wouldn't rely much on what she said bcuz we know there should be less than 200 left.
What's really frustrating is that we really cannot rely on anything they say making us worry even more and speculate alot from the little info we actually have or can trust. In other words I hate wsu administration :boom:

Can we expect some movement today?

I don't think we'll get any today. It seems like they like to send out offers in waves after they get a few stacked up. I'd say its a good question for someone to ask the office on Monday.

Ok so I called and the office they told me that Canadian applicants have to wait for an OSS applicant to withdraw their acceptance to get their spot. And that she doesn't suspect that rejections will go out until August...she also said that the Dean makes the decision of whether or not a round of rejections occur. And also there are 150-200 people on the waitlist.

I feel like, depending on who you talk you, they just give you an answer to make you happy and stop calling. Probably the only person who really knows the numbers is Dawn, and everyone else is just support to help hand out admissions and process acceptance offers and whatnot. :annoyed:

Maybe there's an Admissions Edition Magic 8-Ball that they use to give us answers.

I think you are absolutely correct. There are usually 1-2 girls working in the office, both of them secretaries that don't have much to do with the actual acceptance process itself. I think one of them has been there long enough to know how things typically work out. As far as specifics, they probably get their answers from Dawn.

I know I read that Dawn is the assistant to Dr. Norman, correct? She doesn't do any interviewing or anything does she? She just processes acceptances/withdraws, correct?

I believe the person you talked to was Dawn, and I believe her information is correct. She was actually really nice to me on the phone, and understands the positions were all in. The admissions office is empathizing with us, our anxiety, and our uncertainty towards the future. I don't find it hard to believe there are more than 200 people, maybe just a little disappointed with this revelation. This is probably the best source of information. In regards to acceptances, currently the class is full, so the office will wait to send out more acceptances (so its probably in our best interest not to bombard them with phone calls as hard as that may seem). And I was told the same thing that the IS:OS ratio is about the same on the list. And while people would expect it to be weighted towards IS applicants (more IS applicants), I find this to be fallacious. Wayne State is an instate school, hence they accept more IS than OS students. With this current logic there should actually be more OS than IS students than on the list. But since the list is 50:50 currently ,I suspect more IS students will be taken off than OS students. Guys, I really hope that we all get in, trust me that would be quite amazing. I hate the process of waiting, but unfortunately we can't change the path we meander upon. Hopefully, another slew of waitlist acceptances occur, and some more people withdraw. Lets keep hoping... hope this helps you guys.

It looks like MSU's waitlist is moving. Hopefully that means people will withdraw from Wayne 🙂 👍

I hope we can get all the SDNers to answer that poll... It would be interesting to find out the numbers (as meaningless as they can be)

Hey Sean, man wayne is my #1 choice, and i'm sure its one of your top choices too, if not top choice. If you dont mind me saying (please don't take this in a negative way), but such polls may serve to only exaggerate our fears, or provide us with incorrect hope. I would assume anybody still reading SDN pre med section, or the wayne thread is most likely someone on the waitlist. The reason I come to this conclusion, which lacks any evidentiary basis, is simply based on psychology. If you were accepted from wayne, what would be the first thing you would do (obviously after posting on SDN 😍 )...probably go out and relax, especially after this process. The likelihood of you revisiting SDN probably decreases substantially post - acceptance (Again this is an assumption). What i'm implying is this poll may showcase a relatively high amount of waitlisters, because we compose most of the activity online. Furthermore, the other people saying they withdraw on the poll could be people that already withdrew from wayne. But I do have a suggestion: as the thread starter maybe you could add if you are on the waitlist at wayne, and are accepted would you keep your spot.. or are you on the waitlist for wayne and have no intention of attending...maybe these might add. Again I really like reading your breakdowns, through this insanity they provide some clarity. I'm sorry in anyway if this is offensive, just thought it might be constructive.

I'm assuming I know the answer for most of us here, but take this poll for me so we can get an idea of numbers... numbers which mean nothing at all. lol

Just an update regarding this, I know an individual on the waitlist who provided me insight into MSU's activity. Thus far MSU has only taken very few people off the waitlist, but is getting ready to take off more people off the waitlist. They do not release how long their waitlist is, nor how many people have withdrawn from MSU (so were in the dark here). Currently they did CBC (Background checks) on waitlisters, so I assume when those come back in within the next week or two weeks will MSU send out acceptances (the admissions department stated that it would happen in the next couple weeks, but made no reference to the CBC tests). I too hope that people will withdraw from wayne for MSU, but that decision is sure to be a tough one. Hope this works out best in our favor, hope this helps you understand. By the way, according to last threads and current students, MSU gets a decent amount of waitlist movement...

OOS from CA. Not really banking on Wayne but who knows maybe I'll get off. But realistically I don't' think I will.

Why so doom and gloom? They accepted 77 people from the waitlist last year. They must have sent acceptances to more than 77 people. A conservative estimate would be 100 acceptances from the waitlist. They have only given out 50ish acceptances this year. I think you can assume they will be giving out roughly 50 more acceptances. Its not over yet by any means.

I'm sorry LOSAR, I don't want to be a Buzz Killington by any means. I've just been really down because I don't feel like I'll get off the 2 waitlists I'm on. For Wayne, I don't think my stats are high enough and they haven't taken too many OOS students. In addition the only other person I know who has been waitlisted around me just got in last F so I'm official the last person.

To be honest, I'm trying to be hopeful but it's just getting really hard. All I have been doing is sleeping and lying in my bed. It seems like I've lost the motivation to do anything.

My back up plan to being a doctor is just to move away and find a job. Live and forget about all this stuff.

Anyways, sorry to be gloomy I won't be posting anything gloomy anymore. Good luck everyone to next week! I'm sure they will take more people from the list.

I agree, there are days where I have felt like doing nothing, and the only reason I get up is to possibly get an email in my inbox or a phone call and nothing else matters. It's understandably difficult, and don't beat yourself up for feeling down. But at the same time, don't let it consume you. The journey is just as important as the destination, some would argue, and with that reasoning you should not spoil this (possibly) final stage of your premed life. There is a saying that goes, "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?...Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

I only intend to help, and if my words don't help, feel free to just throw them out.🙂

Well thank you 👍 Really enjoyed your quote! It's really nice how when I'm feeling down everyone on here can sympathize. Because you all know exactly what I'm going through. Those around me can only try but they really don't understand in many ways.

I'm feeling better today. Hopefully I'll feel even better tomorrow! I'm quite nervous about next week so good luck to everyone once again :luck:

I hope someone on here gets off the list!

Not to be gloomy, but thought this would be good information, thus far only about 40 acceptances, or slightly under have been given. We were over estimating when we said 60 were given. At least this is what the office indicated when I called. What does that mean? No clue, maybe the list is moving a tad slower than last year. Maybe more people are waiting on waitlists.. or maybe schools are just having greater retention. I also hope next week turns out better, but i've been on the hapless train as of late.

Why do you say 40? I called the office last Thursday and they said they've given out 54 acceptances since the May 5th decision date.

Please don't quote me or my source because information could of been misunderstood as well as miscommunicated. But when I called this week I was told that closer to only 40 acceptances were sent out, which shocked me just as much as you. I don't think calling and asking them again how many acceptances have been sent out will be helpful, it will just be unnecessary barraging. What this tells me, is there is a lot of information, and very little certainty in the air. Its best that we be sagacious in our ways and speculate based on a range of numbers. So we could say 35-54 acceptances were sent out total, and I realize that range is pretty wide...So again I hope this provides a level of elucidation, but i'm afraid i'm a bit lost myself..now i'm about to attempt to enjoy the season finale of lost, attempt.

Ilvcurst hang in there. Things will hopefully work out.

OMG Lost....what a crazy ending... I'm still confused...by 'moving on' from the special light church...I'm just assuming they all warped to the Bahamas?

spoiler alert?

I know! I haven't seen the last season, I missed to many and couldn't keep up this season. But I will definitely check it out so stop giving hints!

Watching the last season of Lost is more agonizing then waiting to hear some information from the wayne state admissions department. I was disappointed.

Awwww bummer well let us hope today someone here gets some good news 😍

Thanks for the update, MFC. Now I don't have to constantly wonder if I'll get an email or phone call today.

Speaking of notifications, do you think they'll keep doing it by phone, as they have been lately? And do you think mornings or afternoons?

I don't know how they decide whether they are emailing or calling. I'd assume it can be either though since it has been both up to this point. And I don't think it will be definitively in the morning or the afternoon. It will probably be both as it has been for the past few weeks.

OSSers... don't give up hope. Our poll showed that a few OSS students who have already been accepted will decline. This should continue as OSS students get accepted to their state schools. I'm sure OSS waitlisters will get a steady rate of acceptances throughout the summer. Although it won't be a HUGE movement, there will certainly be a movement.

I don't think we need any evidence to prove the fact that most of us on here are waitlisters. I think the only thing that most of us are sure of at this point is that if we are accepted, we will be spending much less time, if any, perusing the forums at SDN. So, yes, the poll isn't indicative of the actual statistics of all those who applied to Wayne, but it does give us some (very little) insight to what people have planned. For example, JMJ77 voted that he/she will be withdrawing from Wayne, and he/she posted just that a few moments ago. If anything, the poll just serves as a fountain of hope. I appreciate your suggestions, and I understand what you are trying to gauge by adding those choices, but I think the "I'm waitlisted at Wayne and will probably withdraw" choice covers both of the choices you suggested.

There are such things as realistic hope, unrealistic hope, and the type of nasty hope where you can hope in one hand and **** in the other to see which one fills up first.. The poll probably provides a mixture of all three hopes, consisting majorly of the latter two isotopes (Yes, I did just drop some witless Gen Chem humor on all of you). But lets be honest, we are all here to 1) get some idea on what the hell is going on with the waitlist and 2) to waste some serious time. SDN is a time-vampire, and the poll is simply my latest asset to SDN's propaganda

I 😍JMJ777! Thanks for opening up another OOS spot, God I hope it goes to me!

It looks like the University of Michigan will start their waitlist movement on/after June 1st. We can't expect a big movement (U of M ADCOM said so themselves), but this should give us a bit more hope... Hopefully a few students will get pulled from Wayne to U of M!

Sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm not from MI. So is U of M a much better medical school? Would people go there instead of Wayne?

Are a lot of people who are accepted at Wayne waitlisted there? Well I guess this is great for IS movement but not so much for OOS 🙁

All great questions. U of M is a great school. Without a doubt, one of the top medical programs in the country. I refuse to answer your question regarding if students would choos U of M over WSU because I don't need any bad karma right now. I'm sure at least a few of the currently accepted Wayne State students are waitlisted at U of M. In fact, on average, about 1/4 of Wayne State's class went to undergrad at U of M. Although I don't expect Michigan's waitlist movement to significantly affect (till this very day, I have trouble with affect vs. effect. and yes, even if one of you explains it, I will continue to misuse them.) Wayne's, I would imagine that it will pull at least a couple. It may not seem like a lot, but tell that to the kid who is accepted during orientation week.

But yes, you are right. This is decent news for IS students and means almost nothing for a Californian like you. But at least only 32% of OSS students accept their offer from Wayne. That's good news for you for sure.

Your post is really interesting, Ilvcurst! I figured that it would be the other way around: that people outside of Michigan would know more about UM than Wayne's med school. How did you hear of Wayne, and how do you know more about it than UM? I know many here have stated that it's OOS-friendly, is that it?
