Match lists really don't show much in either direction....the true measure of a successful match is if the students got what they wanted.....and that info isn't exactly readily available

Exactly. If alot of students wanted a year to re think or just take an extra year to decide then thats what they wanted.

If you re already in school just bust your ass and you ll get the residency you want. If you are considering PCOM, or any other school and a match list dissuades you then dont apply.

It's not even the complete list either. There are about 30 not on the list. (I know one for sure that's not on the list and they do have a position, so it's not a matter of not matching - maybe personal preference to not be published.)

It was that person's choice not to be included (for whatever reason). This list was made based on email responses to a member of our class. So there are a number of non-responders. Our class matched well. Many people got their first choice (including me). I am thankful!

You have certainly not seen a "DO from every school" match at Hopkins for Anesthesiology. I matched there (Im from KCUMB) and one other DO matched there this year (from UMDNJ) out of 24 spots. They arent averse to DOs but they dont have more than 1 or 2 in each class.

There were several omissions (in PM&R) that I noticed a few weeks ago when the list was originally put up. I emailed student affairs and they added them to the list once they verified the matches. You might want to do the same.

I am originally from good ol' Long Island so here is my brief geography lesson

North Shore/LIJ (Long Island Jewish) is an excellent hospital system - it is located on the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County about 20 mins east of NYC - it is referred to as the "Gold Coast" of Long Island

But that is super impressive - a DO in an ACMGE neurosurgery program - congrats!

I concur. I had the opportunity to work at NSUH-Manhasset in an ancillary position. It's a great hospital and one I definitely think about going to once I'm at that stage.

If I'm remembering correctly from last year, the 4th year folks need to inform the person responsible for making up the list where they matched. As more turn in their information, the list is revised. Last year a number of PCOM matches were never listed, because some 4th years never informed the list person.

This varies year to year, based on student preference and location. Also, students at schools with larger OPTIs/local AOA residencies may opt for this rather than hazard the MD match. In the end, the institution you go to doesn't make a whole lot of difference-work hard and do well on boards and you get what you want. Don't choose a school based on the match list, choose by what's best for you.

Not yet. I talked to our admin about it a few weeks ago and they said we would eventually get the info...no mention of dates though.

I might go pester them again if we don't hear anything in a few weeks...sigh.

From all accounts, people are happy though, so I guess that's what matters...

Fact. There were 28 ortho programs in this years match. If you don't rotate at the majority of those, you aren't gonna match. When you are unrestricted in the amount of weeks you can do (I rotated with MULTIPLE people from DMU who had done in excess of 18 weeks of ortho)...it makes it a much easier road than those of us that were allowed to do an entire 8 weeks.
