I assume it's too late to cancel scores right? That can only be done right after the exam? If not, cancel!

If so...

First of all, calm down! You don't have your score yet and you can't worry until the time comes. I felt terrible after my MCAT and my score was better than I expected.

Secondly...if it drops a point of two, don't sweat it! Unless your first score was not competitive to begin with that is.

Third...you absolutely positively 100% must submit that score to schools. Did you choose schools to send it to when you registered for the exam? There's not point in risking it- it will jeopardize your acceptance if they find out you left out information on your application!

And lastly...if you really find yourself in a bind- email admissions directors and find out what they recommend. You'd be amazed how helpful they can be in times this. And don't be afraid to take the test again! I have a friend who took the exam 3 times to show a school how badly she wanted to get in and guess what...she got in. Also remember the MCAT is only one part of your application, so if you aren't satisfied with your performance even after multiple tries, just make sure you amp up other parts of your app! Good luck!

I could be wrong but I believe that you are mistaken. I will not have my MCAT scores uploaded until June 22nd, but my status is "verified" already.

It is my understanding that for purposes of submitting your application to AACOMAS and having it then sent out to schools, you have to wait for an MCAT score to be loaded. Otherwise, schools would have no way of evaluating that aspect of your application, and wouldn't be able to offer an interview (in most cases) anyway. I could be wrong, but that's how it worked for me last application cycle.

That's reassuring that they would put the APs in themselves...although mine are not on there 🙁

Still kinda befuddling to me that they would go ahead and verify so quickly...I didn't see any kind of indication on the app that they would do that. What if someone had, IDK, put in a placeholder grade of A for all of their classes and planned on changing it later, and still got verified?

For those of you that are already verified, and have taken classes at multiple institutions, did you have to send in all of your transcripts before they began verification?

Thanks 🙂

So far the closest option i see it Repeat/to be completed...but that makes it sound like i repeated the course

You should review the application instruction manual 😉

Go to "term year", and add a new term. While filling out the information, you should see "term information status", where you will choose "planned/in progress". Afterward, fill out "academic status", "prefix and number", "course name", "subject", and "semester hours", then I think you're all set.

^^A case of it being sufficient but only maybe necessary. I did, but they got both my transcripts at the same time so I wouldn't be able to tell ya whether they wait til both are in to begin verification.

Thanks anyways 👍

I've already taken the mcat and wasn't too happy with the score so I'm retaking in July. Can I release only my July score? In other words, is it required to release all mcat scores to AACOMAS? thanks in advance.

By releasing your MCAT scores on the Thx to AACOMAS, or anywhere else, you are release ALL of your scores... as in your entire test-taking history. You do not get to cherry-pick which scores are sent.

Definitely. Med schools require that they see all your scores. This is very important and necessary. Don't try to get around this.

I sent my transcript to AACOMAS 15 days ago. They still have not received it according to what I see online when I log into AACOMAS. I am hoping they have received it, but just have not got around to listing that they have on my online application. I'm thinking they won't until June 1 (tomorrow). Am I right in this assumption, or should I be worried that my transcript got lost somehow?

I'd be worried...Once I got the email/texts that my scripts were mailed AACOMAS and AMCAS had them listed as received within like 4 business days if I remember correctly. And this is from LA to DC/MD. Sorry but I hope this helps..

Crap!

I guess I'll be giving them a call ASAP.

for work experience are you guys giving a bullet list of your job and what it entailed or paragraph form ?

Paragraph form it gives you more room to explain what your role was and I put in how it will make me a better physician for some of the jobs.

I have a question regarding the GPA calculation for the AACOMAS application. My cumulative GPA calculated by dividing the total amount of grade points earned by the total amount of credit hours attempted is 3.5

According to the AACOMAS application my cumulative is 3.2? I'm lost here...

thanks in advance for any insight.

Does anyone else have this issue:
When I print out the AACOMAS application, my Current Address does not show a zip code.

In addition, are there any other anomalies when printing out the application?

Thanks.

do you guys use paragraph or bullet form for volunteer work? Also if i do paragraph is talking in first person the way to go about this.

Are you sure you calculated your gpa correctly? Here are two links:

I'm curious about the retake policy, I took a community college calculus course called "General Calculus" before college in high school, and I took a university calculus course called "Short Calculus", can my university grade (which is better) replace the community college course grade?

🙂

So for AMCAS there are categories for "extracurricular/hobbies/avocations" and "artistic endeavors." Should these things be listed on our aacomas applications? For example, I love to cook and started a "cooking club" a few months ago where we get together every week and one person takes a turn teaching a recipe to the rest of the group. Also I'm an avid photographer and though not a professional by any means, I have been able to make decent side money by selling prints of photos I have taken. Thanks for any input!!

I have another question related to this: What would I write for "Position Title" and "Name of Organization"? Since there is no title or organization for hobbies I'm wondering if listing them will look goofy?

I noticed a difference in the GPA I calculated on my own and my AACOMAS GPA that it shows when you online. I looked back and found a few errors, fixed them, and then my GPA's matched.

1. Make sure you put in the right units your school uses on that drop down menu on AACOMAS application ("semester hours"vs "quarter hours" vs "trimester hours", etc).

2. If you've repeated courses, make you are classifying the classes correctly on AACOMAS (you list the first time you took the class as "Repeat XX" and the second time as "Last Repeat XX")

Today is the day! Finally... Too bad it opens at noon. 🙄

And... submitted... Did anyone notice they don't tell you how much they are charging your card??? Maybe I missed it, but that's kind of crazy.

Sure is quiet on here. 😛

mine showed how much it charged.. when you choose the list of schools it shows the total cost.

Submitted! Now all that is left to do this summer is 31 day Army school at Ft. Lewis followed by another 23 days at Ft. Benning! Hopefully I will have some secondaries waiting for me when I get home.

I was told by a friend not to include them since they're aren't awards more like a "thank you for participating" kind of thing and will come across like you're trying to fill up space, so I would say no just to be safe.

How about the others on here? Anyone else here has the similar situation?

yeah, i thought it was weird it didnt show me how much i was spending...

Ahhh, already feel like I'm behind the curve. Still putting the finishing touches on my personal statement and need to get my last science rec in hand.

We have to send in our recs by the secondaries right? Not needed for primaries?

Yep, I think we send our LOR's in around the time we send in our secondaries.

So when I check the "official MCATs" tab, it shows my score. But when I click on "view application summary" or "MCAT information" under the "Application" tab, my score doesn't show up.

Is that normal?

Do D.O. schools screen applicants?
I took the Jan MCAT and got a 22Q. I retook it on May 27th and won't get the scores back until the end of this month. I don't want to delay my application process.

i have seen a few schools with a cutoff of 24 but i'm sure if you indicated that you are planning on a retake it will be fine. remember you can update your application after submitting.

good luck to everyone this application season.

My MCAT score showed up as received at noon (and I could click on it and see the scores). Then, at 3 pm, it showed up as not received.

I just checked it again, and now it is back showing up as received.

Weird.

Anyone who is verified find their GPA after submitting?

How do I submit my 'official' MCAT score? I gave them my AAMC ID # weeks ago and I figured they would get them from that but they still say no official scores on file. Do I have to do something besides just give them my AAMC number?

Depending on your school it takes approximately 1.5 weeks to get the transcript in.

On this subject, my transcripts were all received by AMCAS on the same day, but some transcripts are selectively missing from AACOMAS. It was technically a holiday weekend, I am calling them tomorrow to double-check, it can't hurt for you to do the same. Also check with your school to make sure your problem is with AACOMAS and not your school's registrar office.

You have to go into AMCAS Thx history or whatever and select "send schools to AACOMAS".

Where should I put my research under? The EC portion?

It would seem obvious to list Dean's List in the "Awards, Honors, Scholarships" section of our applications.

BUT, in the instructions, it says that if we want to list Dean's List for multiple semesters, we should just list it once, and then in the information box we should let them know that we were on the list for multiple semesters (ex: Fall 07, Fall 08, Spring 09, etc). Well, the only place there is an information box to type text into is the "Extracurricular, Volunteer, Community Service" section of our applications.

So, there is a contradiction.

I have only been on the Dean's List twice, so I am just listing them both on the "Awards, Honors, Scholarships" section...as separate awards. Is this what you all did?

Also, I didnt document hours for some of my ECs. Would leaving that part blank and only putting in the start and end dates hurt me?

I listed it in the "Awards, Honors, Scholarships" section.

For hobbies, what organization name do I put if it is just myself?

I play an instrument and sing, and I perform at some events on campus(as an amateur).

I wrote "Dean's List - xxx Semesters" as the title and chose the date of the most recent semester as the date of the award.

Put research under ECs...

Why don't you know the dates for your ECs? You should really put these in, how will they know how long you volunteered or shadowed?? It will look bad in my opinion. If you don't know exact dates, make an educated guess!

I think I didn't put one in...

You don't need to enter an organization name for hobbies. Just enter "N/A".

I tried to submit my application yesterday and when I clicked the submit button, it showed me an error message: "complete all sections and select at least one school." I do not understand why this happens. I did complete all of the sections and actually selected more than just one medical school!!
It is really annoying that I could not submit it yesterday especially that I finished working on my application before June the 1st.

Anyone in here experiencing the same difficulties?
