To Jayscin and everyone: does this applies to the Personal Statement? Something happened to it when I copy pasted my work onto it. It's missing some lines, so parts of it doesn't make sense! I just want to correct it. Is this allowed?

Yes, it applies to whole application including your personal statement. You can use the AACOMAS message system to send them your request. With my experience, they updated within 24 hours.

Hey guys, how long did it take AACOMAS to get your MCAT scores after you released em? I sent them on the 1st but its still not showing up.

I would give it at least 7-10 days. It depends on how big their backlog is at the time. Send them a message to inquire about the status.

Call them and ask. They can stop the verification process and allow you to edit your application.

I did not change my credit hours to semester hours, and they sent it back saying i need to fix it. in which case i was able to edit my entire application and change some of my typo's

Okay, thanks. I guess it's like an unpaid vacation - not sure whether its a good thing or not. Oh well, extra time to work on the PS I guess..

Okay... real stupid mistake. When posting my PS onto the AACOMAS app, I copy pasted one of my drafts instead of the final one that I wanted to send. I also didn't read the whole thing over before submitting it. Since my app is not verified yet, does anyone know if I am allowed to go back and fix this?

The whole app. looks to be still accessible and editable. I'm just not sure if the changes will be reflected after verification.

Has anyone had this issue before?

I posted this question in the application thread, but noone saw it in the multitude of responses.

Good luck to all

Yes, you can fix it. I had to make a change to my statement last year after submission. Send them a message using the AACOMAS email. They will update it. The process should be very easy if it has not be verified. If it has been verified, they will have to send an updated copy to your schools. Either way, your app can be updated within 24 hours.

Good luck!

Why is it that as soon as I select "Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Virginia Campus" ... the other campus in Carolina is taken off the list? we can only apply to one campus? Thanks!

Yep

Here is how it works straight from the office of admissions:

You can only apply to one campus however your application is sent to the Blacksburg campus and is considered at both places. When secondaries are sent out THEN you will chose which campus is your top choice. They set it up this way to save the applicant money.

That's a first

Has anyone who submitted June 1st gotten their application verified? Any second timers know how long the verification process usually takes?

i was verified within minutes of submitting on june 1.

I submitted in september last year, and verification took 7 weeks. I'm hoping this cycle is better.

yep. just waiting for AACOMAS to release to the schools.

I'm verified! My application is released to the schools! Awesome!

really? it doesnt just say for each school "submitted to AACOMAS"?

In the email from AACOMAS it said that my release date would be hidden for a few days so that the colleges could download the application. To me, that sounds like the information has been released to the schools.

i didnt even get an email...

This is the what mine said from AACOMAS:

"Dear judasreznor,

Your AACOMAS application has been verified and will be released to the colleges. Applications/Updates are sent once a week from data received by Monday morning and made available on Tuesday. The release date on your application will be hidden from your view for a few days to allow time for the colleges to download the data.

If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us via email or telephone.

Thank you."

They even addressed you by your SDN name? Damn, what pros..

i wonder why i didnt get that email.

I never got a verification email last year. Weird. O well though. Good luck to all who have been verified already. I don't think that schools are going to start looking at Apps until end of July/early August though.

that late? secondaries should be to us by then, though.

I actually thought it was a little odd that they knew that name. Is AACOMAS "Big Brother"?

DbDan: I hope that being in super early will help me out when they do start reviewing apps! Also, would a school like WVSOM that offers interviews with secondaries really wait that long to review an application?

Schools were giving interview invites before the second week of July last app season...not sure why it would change this year.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me that they would wait that long to begin even looking at applications. Why in the world would AACOMAS open so early?

two questions...so are applications looked at in the order they were submitted to AACOMAS or AMCAS?

also, should I put a research publication under "honors, awards...?" I mentioned in my entry for lab research under "ECs," but just wondering if I should make a separate entry for the publication. thanks!

Hey guys,
I just got my verification e-mail and it says my application will be released to the colleges I chose. However, I haven't even added my personal statement nor have I paid or clicked submit. Does this mean the schools are receiving incomplete applications from me? :scared:

in my application i wrote: Received certification from Red Cross for first aid/cpr. is there a better way to word first aid/CPR? or are dashes ok? like i also used doctor/patient relationship. is it better to say doctor to patient relationship?

if you have been on the dean's list more than once, should you put in your app more than once?

i shadowed a DO at a family practice, but also shadowed a MD at a nuclear medicine department. would shadowing a md not be a good idea to put in your app because you want to be a DO?

thanks for the help!

Okay, few questions...

I'm a reapplicant who only submitted secondary to NSU since I'm in FL (LORs came end of Jan., felt it was honestly a waste of money to send in all my secondaries a few weeks before deadline).

1. Should I change my activity descriptions? I will update the activities I've kept doing, but for the ones I stopped, should I rewrite them?

2. Is there a button to say I'm a reapplicant like the AMCAS has (with each school)? I didn't see one, but I don't want to make a mistake.

3. For awards given more than once (Dean's, President's Lists...), do I just write it once, even though there is no explanation option to list each award, or list them separately?

4. Given the unusually long processing time for AACOMAS, compared to AMCAS, and the fact that it opened early May, is a late June primary submission "early", "average," or "late?" I've already completed the secondary essays for most schools (didn't turn in last year's secondaries, I'll edit and revise, but for the most part they are solid)...I imagine with a 6-week verification time, I'll still be complete mid-August...

Sorry for all the questions, thanks for the help!

That's odd. I would reach out to the AACOMAS staff and see what's going on.

I would put first aid/CPR and what organization you received it from.

like i also used doctor/patient relationship. is it better to say doctor to patient relationship?

I assume this is in reference to your PS. I think doctor/patient or doctor-patient are ok.

Most ppl I know put the most recent year.

i shadowed a DO at a family practice, but also shadowed a MD at a nuclear medicine department. would shadowing a md not be a good idea to put in your app because you want to be a DO?

All shadowing is good. It shows that you've explored your career options. I shadowed significantly more MDs than DOs.

I can only help with #3. I contacted AACOMAS about the whole Dean's List thing. They said since there is no way to indicate multiple semesters in the Awards section, it is fine to list it multiple times. The other alternative is to put it in the EC's section, where there is space to write in how many times you received it. Best of luck.

AACOMAS didn't open on May 1. On May 1, they allowed us to start filling out our online application. We weren't allowed to submit until June 1. Somehow, some people are already verified. But I doubt many people are.

A late June submission should still be considered "early".

Yes. It's only fair.

Yes, I would mention it. The more feathers you have in your cap, the better.

I would leave what you had in there and just add new ones.

Most people I know just put them. Others on here list each one separately. If you don't have a ton of activities, list them all. Only once if you need to make room on your app...I don't recall if there's a space limit for activities.

I didn't apply until early September, was verified in November, and started interviewing in December.

LiAlH4, DrDre2001, and Jayscin,

Thanks very much for the replies...I didn't know you could only submit in June, that makes me feel a little better...

My main concern is that I'm a reapplicant, so I just want to be in early, without sacrificing quality. I was stupid in waiting til late May to start rewriting my PS, but I'm using about 1/2 the same ideas, and changing 2 paragraphs I feel were somewhat weak, and I don't want to rush into it. So thanks again to all who replied, very much appreciated! Good luck to all applying!

When you take courses over for DO, what are they looking at? The course number or actual name of the course? So say we have XYZ 1019 and the name is intro to xyz then you take it at another school and it's XYZ 1019 appreciation of xyz same thing right, but what if it says XYZ 1019 into to xyz and the other one said XYZ 1092 or sometimes it's a higher level like 2013 and it still says intro to xyz..is that still consider a retake..or which scenario is considered a retake? Also has anyone experience any grief about retaking a class non science over at a different school by officials? Thanks

It is my understanding that it isn't the number of the course, but the title and content. If the titles are significantly different, you may have problems.

Generally "intro" courses are a little more in depth than "appreciation" courses as intro courses are designed for further study in the field. Appreciation courses are generally not for those continuing their studies in the field, but only meant as a most general of overview for those who are merely curious but not serious about the subject.

Also, I did retake courses at another institution (and even 18 years apart). I had no problems. At all.

to answer #2, I believe there is a question that asks if you have ever applied or matriculated into medical school for a previous app cycle

#3 - I just listed "dean's list - xxx times" and put the date of the most recent

#4 - I submitted June 1 and was verified within hours

So, are a lot of people not getting e-mails from AACOMAS? I didn't get an e-mail when I was verified (pre-June 1) and I just submitted a few hours ago and didn't get a confirmation e-mail or a e-mail receipt or anything, whereas I get e-mails for everything for AMCAS. It's just weird.

I was also verified Pre-June and submitted on June 1st. I haven't received an email or anything from AACOMAS

I'm just wondering how you know you are verified? I have the 3 green check marks and it says my app has been submitted to AACOMAS, but nothing says "verification complete" or anything like that. Thanks!

Above the three check marks mine says current status: Verified

Oh okay. I do not have that yet, but it says that they just got my last transcript on 6/3, so I'm not worried. Thank you!

Yeah I wouldn't worry, they had my transcripts mid may and i was verified by late May.

For those of you applying both MD and DO, are you using the same PS for both applications? Is there an expectation that our DO PS should somehow talk about osteopathic philosophy? Or is that something to write about in secondaries or talk about in interviews? Thanks in advance!!
