i'm assuming no interviews are going out today since the pattern seems to be every 2-3 thursdays?

In response to some of the last posts on page 9, I also have not heard back yet and its been numerous weeks. I figure no news is good news, so don't sweat it.

relax guys. nothing much else you can do besides what we already know. just chill and get off sdn. dont reply on boards unless needed to. take an sdn break.

Is anyone applying MD/PHD? Where can I find the PHD portion of the application (since these links don't work)?

http://som.georgetown.edu/prospectivestudents/degrees/dualdegree/

Follow those instructions. You have to submit two apps (Grad app and the MD/PhD supplement) in addition to the Georgetown med school secondary, which is a little annoying, but if getting into a MD/PhD program is your ultimate goal it's certainly worth slaving through them both.

GL! :xf:

how long did it take you guys to be "complete" after submitting your secondary? Thanks!

Use the online applicant center. They prefer that to email.

I'm not quite sure where this is, can you please help me out? I sent in the secondary 9/2 and still no indication of being complete. Should I be patient? Last year, I didn't keep up on whether or not I was complete and missed out on oppotunities because the school didn't receive a LOR.

Just log on to their secondary website. (https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=GTU-SOM). Click on "Application" then "GU SoM Post-Submissions Updates" on the left. If you try to email them an update they will tell you to put it here.

I submitted the secondary on 9/11 and was complete on 9/13. It is so hard to tell if something has gone wrong with your app process. Good luck!

I just submitted so I'm not positive, but after reading through this thread I believe you can tell on the application by logging in, clicking on "application" and on the right hand side in the details box it should say something to the effect of Application was submitted on DATE/TIME. If you're complete, however, this line will switch to Application was complete on DATE/TIME or maybe just Complete DATE/TIME. This DATE/TIME should be different from the actually day you submitted, and if not I would contact them. (maybe someone who is complete can tell me if I'm wrong?)

Hey, I forgot what Mrs. Sullivan said. Does anyone know if they will send out acceptances tomorrow?

Don't forget the unbelievable number of SMP students. I really wanted to like Georgetown last year, but there were so many things working against it.

Mdeast's posts here are pretty accurate: http://more.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=724491

There are pros and cons to any school. For 75% of our class this year, I'd say we all LOVE it. Sure, the huge number of SMP's during a few classes you take for your FIRST YEAR ONLY is kind of annoying, but other than that, I really have no complaints. I think the problem is that the 80% of our class that loves it doesn't spend time on sdn, nor have they heard of it, something I can't say about a lot of other schools.

Our class has tons of bonding activities with bar nights, post-exam parties, and student sponsored stuff going on all the time. Everyone is pretty tight.

As far as grades are concerned, I think having Honors, HP, Pass, & F really helps to our advantage. If you've been reading any residency selection essays recently (posted all over the place, including this website), you'll see directors complaining about a good way to evaluate quality applicants other than board scores, especially to top programs and competitive residencies. The radiology one just put up on this site is good and you should read it. If you work hard, you do very well here at Georgetown. Curriculum is fair, grading is fair, and you are rewarded with an Honors on your transcript that shows you worked hard. If not, you get a high pass and still look good. HALF of the class gets Honors or High Pass so don't sweat it. Also, I think this is one of the reasons why Georgetown's match list is better than most places. It is easy to evaluate a student's performance.

All in all, I love Georgetown and so do all of my friends. Again, there's probably that small group of people who aren't "into it" and sit around on this website and complain about Georgetown instead of enjoying themselves, studying, and having a good time in med school. These people are at every school. Unfortunately, our school isn't properly represented on sdn. Don't let a few sour apples spoil the batch. Come interview and see for yourself.

Good luck guys, peace!

Can any current GT students elaborate on what you like/dislike about your school? I'd like to hear comments from anyone who has interviewed, as well.

I'm amazed by the negative perspectives on this board, but I'm not sure what to believe. What's most surprising is that it seems the majority of other school threads have students on them going to great lengths to rave about their school and have nothing but positive things to say about it. This one doesn't, and is painted in more a negative light.

I'm sort of the on the fence about applying here with the posts about subpar facilities, hyper-competitive atmosphere (this one really gets me), poor student evaluations, and lower retention rates (relatively speaking). Combined with the high app fee, lengthy essay, astronomic number of applicants, and just being sick of writing, I'm not sure what to do.

As a current student I can say I really love my school. I really like my classmates, they are intelligent, compassionate, funny, and fun-loving bunch of people. So far I've really enjoyed the curriculum and everything else that has been happening outside of the classroom. Tell me another school that has an annual Powderpuff game between the first years and second years. Everything that is needed to make an absolutely great physician is here. Majority of patients I've met have asked to be brought to Georgetown over other hospitals in the DC area. When you are on the tour, one of the first places they'll take you is to look at the match map. You'll see GT sent people to all major medical training centers in this country. Students do extremely well on the match, we are happy, we are driven and motivated, which doesn't not equal gunning, and we love to have fun while doing all of this.

When I applied last year there were the same sayings of how competitive the students are...I'm pretty sure they were started by people who did not actually come to GT. People who read forums like this will often think Georgetown is competitive, I did too when I read those posts, then I interviewed and spent a day with some students, and realized that was actually not the case. The people who are saying GT is competitive are the ones who heard stories but did not actually experience it or interviewed and did not come here for school, so how do they know that first year is competitive? I'm not sure myself. There are definitely a very few students who feel it's competitive here, and those students are at every school. Once these rumors start flying around it just keeps going. It's the same thing every year, like clockwork.

Georgetown really wants students who wants to come here. Let me say that again, Georgetown only wants students who want to come here. That is the reason for the high application fee, the long essays, and for many of you another essay after your interview. It's a way to make sure you really want to come here. For the people who decide that Gtown is competitive...they actually don't end up coming because they have a negative image of this place. I also don't think it's the current student's job to rave about where we go to school. It's most beneficial if we, while on tour and while talking to you, paint the most objective imagine of this school so YOU can make the choice. We go to this school, of course we already fell in love with it, that's why we decided to come here. If other schools are telling you how absolutely amazing everything is...they are leaving something out. Medical school is not like a vacation, you should be challenged, stretched, and stressed. If the school does not do that, it's not really preparing you for your career.

And the reason why not many current students are keeping up is because of our classes. We sort of have a break this weekend because we had an exam last Friday. If you want to get to know Georgetown then come and see it for yourself without any preconceptions. Let yourself make the choice, not some other person on a forum.

Does anyone want to call and ask about when they are going to start sending out acceptances?

I just talked to the admissions office, and they said within the next two weeks. (I interviewed the first week of September, if that makes a difference.) The good thing is, we will hear via email, which means I don't have to awkwardly stalk our mailman. 🙂

Has anyone heard from Georgetown about interviews lately. Seems like there isn't much activity lately, even though they get 10,000+ apps.

It's possible that there'll be a wave of bad news either this Wednesday or next Wednesday followed by interview invitations on Thursday - they seem to be pretty consistent about sending out news one or two Wednesdays/Thursdays per month. It could be that they're busy with acceptances though!

Good luck to those who have interviewed!

Just got the complete email today! What's the typical waiting time from hearing back now? The email said another 8 weeks 🙁

Just got rejected today, completed in mid august 🙁

OMG!!! My first interview invite!!!!!

Just got invited!!!! This is the one I'm most excited about. Complete mid aug, and i'm an alum. Stats: 3.5 ish/36
Good luck to everyone!

Not rejected, not invited to interview. No news must be good news at least.

For those who got an interview, what do they mean by "The interview must take place during the indicated interview period." What is the indicated interview period??

Can I get some advice? I sent in my secondary 9/2 and haven't received a complete status. Sent them a letter by uploading a word document indicating this concern, but still haven't heard from them. What should I do next?

That's odd. Were your letters not in until recently? I submitted end of September and am complete now. I would call the admissions office and see if they can help you.

Rejection! Complete mid-September. Quite happy they did not keep me hanging!

Good luck to everyone! 🙂

Rejected. Complete early September.

Does anyone know the web address to check your status? I just got the dreaded "check your status online" email but don't know what the web address is..

Rejected, completed end of august..

stats: 36O, 3.85

Does anyone know if they screen out certain applicants based on high MCAT? Just something I heard someone say to me

well jungleland (above) got an interview and he had a 36...so maybe there are other factors?

Hmm, well I mean I thought my extracurriculars were pretty sound, got the research, study abroad, leadership, and other activities...but who knows with 13k+ applicants they can afford to select whatever they're looking for

it was in an email they sent to you. in any case:

https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=GTU-SOM

also, rejected but i definitely like your sig champaigne! good luck to everyone else.

Thanks Jimminy,...and yep rejection for me too. I didn't have the original emails w/ the link because they failed to send me a secondary request post primary submission (which I submitted June 2nd). When I called to check on it in mid August they sent me a link for a lost password. In any case good luck to everyone left.

Hey, yeah- I mean, I can't speculate on the above poster's application, but I think that in addition to the higher mcat that I posted, I just graduated from Georgetown and made it VERY clear in the secondary that I would love to stay at Georgetown for medical school.

I think the reason they wouldn't like kids with higher stats is because of the worry that they would not choose Georgetown in the end anyway, and by making sure they knew that wasn't the case for me, I probably helped my application.
