You could take the SEPTA train from Trenton to Market East - that and the Greyhound station are only a few blocks from Jefferson. Hope that helps!

The 30th street station is also a SEPTA station (the two are separate but next to each other). You take the Market-Frankford line towards Frankford. Get off at either 11th street or 8th street to Jefferson.

The Greyhound stop is on Filbert Street, which is approximately a 5-10 minute walk to Jefferson.

Here is the google map to the interview location from the Greyhound bus stop. It's less than ten minutes in an extremely safe area (safest area of Philly...downtown, chinatown, etc).

Either one would work but the one on Filbert street would obviously be better. Once you get off on Filbert street, you won't get lost even if you do, asking where Jefferson is will get you pointed in the right direction.

The market east station, if you can go there directly, is literally next to the Jefferson campus, so that would be like a five minute walk to the interview location.

The NJ transit drops you off at 11th and Market street, which I am assuming is the market street station. I also saw some directions on the website as to how to get to jefferson from 11th and market street.

Yes, 11th and Market street is the market street station. People who live in New Jersey and commute to Jefferson get off there, as well as those of us coming in from the suburbs to Jefferson 🙂.

You literally don't need directions from that station. You get out and you'll see a big Jeff sign.

I am sorry if this comes off sounding bitter or anything, but to anyone out there who hopes to apply in the future to Jefferson, be advised...

Even if you are disadvantaged, URM, bi-lingual, have great LORs, diverse and significant ECs, a great story overall, DO NOT apply here if any of your MCAT sections is below an 8. Maybe I was naive for applying here, but I was in constant contact with someone on the Committee who told me to apply, that they review applicants holistically. It is not true! And last week a Jefferson rep came to a local college and confirmed that anything below a 3.0 gpa or 8 in any of the sections was grounds for an automatic rejection even if someone is fighting for you on the Committee. [If this is incorrect and one of you exists than lucky you! :luck:]

This is just so you future applicants don't waste your $ or time.

Sorry if this upsets anyone or offends anyone, I am just trying to help future applicants out who may be wondering this. I wish someone had warned me.

Hey Doc,

Really sorry about the disappointing news. I met Dr. Brooks at a medical school fair earlier in the year and still have my notes from it. I was shocked when she said that the school currently has students whose MCAT scores ranged from 17(!) to 41. Yep, that's what she said ...
 
Any rejections pre-interview yet? I would love to hear something from them...
 
Anyone know the turn-around time between interviewing and hearing about acceptances (or waitlists)? I've heard several different things, like they told me 2-3 weeks at the interview but others have said only 1 week.
 
The turnaround is variable based upon which Wednesday your interviewer can show up to the meeting.

Got placed in the high priority pool. Obviously not the ideal decision, but I'm happy to still have a chance. Congrats to the other acceptances, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for my own in a few months.

It's always good to have choices, fingers crossed. Personally, I'd have a very easy choice to make if I got into Jeff, the school really clicked with me.
 
Hey guys--for those of you who have been accepted, is there a link to pay the acceptance fee online? And if so, can you post it? I know on the reply we need to send back it just says its due by May 15, but I'd like to just pay it now so I don't need to worry about it later.

High priority waitlister as well. Interviewed last week.

Does anyone know the actual prospects for us high priority guys from previous years. I know Dr. Callahan said 64 people in the class were waitlistees (I assume high priority). But how many people actually remain on the list, or at least are the prospects good (above 50% maybe)?
 
Hi guys,

Just thought Id give some hope to those <30 MCATs. Got accepted yesterday, one week after my interview. There is more to the application than just numbers, and Jefferson does a great job of looking at it all. Good luck everyone!

Sorry to hear that. I interviewed last week too but haven't heard anything. When did you get the email?
 
This morning. I emailed Dr. Callahan and she said being early in the cycle we got a real good chance. So I think HP people are in good shape if we are willing to wait.

When I emailed Dr. Callahan after getting my HPWL email she told me the same thing. I'm hopeful. :xf:
 
For those of you who were accepted....have you gotten anything in the mail yet? I got a voicemail from Dr. Callahan that said a packet had been mailed last week but haven't gotten anything yet 😕

Maybe I imagined the voicemail🙁

You got the voicemail- believe it! She told me it was mailed in the last few days and would arrive NEXT week (this was two days ago). Congrats!

Orion - are you sure you heard it right..it seems like the range is more like 27 to 41...although I understand that MCAT score is not a reflection of how well you do in med school, 17 is too low..

Does anyone who interviewed here know about their scholarship/financial aid policies? Also, are there strong research opportunities available at Jeff? Thanks in advance 🙂

What do you mean by scholarship/financial aid policies (application process, availability, etc)?

As a first year, I don't know much about the research facilities yet, but so far, Jeff seems like it has decent research opportunities especially with the neuroscience and cancer centers. It is, by no means, a research powerhouse. As students, we are also inundated with emails about summer research, so I don't think anyone will have a hard time finding a research position here at Jeff. There are also opportunities to do research at other institutions over the summer if you want to go back home or experience something new. If you are interested, there is also a program called College within a College (CwiC) that provides experiences in clinical and translational research throughout all 4 years.

I've been lucky enough to get into some great schools, and I'm not completely sure if I want to keep my interview at Jeff (seems like the tuition is pretty high, but not really out of the ordinary), even though it seems like a great program. So was just wondering if they give merit aid, or what their financial policies were in general. I've been missing a lot of work for interviews already.

Ah...I see. Well, Jeff is an awesome program (of course, I'm biased)! =] It has a lot to offer and is a fun place to be! However, would you attend Jeff over any of the school you've already gotten into especially if it's already cheaper than Jeff? If you are absolutely sure you won't, then I wouldn't waste more money and time.

Got the envelope today! It's funny because it's a 'thin' envelope. I mean, I already got the call so I knew it was an acceptance, but I would have been so bummed if I saw that and didn't know already.

Has anyone who has interviewed/accepted applied to the Physician Shortage Area Program? I applied to PSAP but have not heard anything since I was complete at the end of Sept.
 
The financial aid is amazing at Jefferson. Whether it's scholarships that are need or merit based, it pays to go to a medical school with the largest living group of alumna that keep giving back. I was accepted to my state school, much cheaper than Jefferson, but after the amazing scholarships they provided me with Jefferson ended up being a lot cheaper. As a first year, the focus seems to be mainly on need and the staff is so personal that they will do anything they can to find you money whether its a scholarship or low interest loan. If you have need or the numbers to back you, I would find it VERY hard to believe you would have any trouble getting a good package. Also, I hear (not a fact, but from upper years) awards increase over the years e.g. from 1st to 2nd year, etc.

Research... Jeff is amazing for research because it's a tight knit community with connections around the country & Philadelphia. Not to mention, you would be surprised at some of the people in certain departments at Jeff. Neuroscience, cancer, and orthopedics are huge here. You really can't go wrong clinically or research wise going to med school in Philadelphia... truly a health care powerhouse.

This seems a little suspect to me....just because the financial aid presentation that they made at the interview seems directly contrary to this.

We were told that because Jeff is not attached to an undergraduate institution, they did not get a lot of research money and therefore there were not a lot of chances for "free" money.

The one thing I would agree with is that the financial aid officer at Jeff seemed to be one of the nicest, most open, and most hardworking people ever, and it really stuck with me that he said "Even if you decide not to go to Jeff, our office is always open to help you with any financial aid issues you may have including budget planning".

I am guessing that if there is "need based" aid there, you have to be SUPER needy to get it at Jeff. Again, I have nothing but what Jeff told me to go on here, but it makes sense with what I have been told by past applicants. I don't doubt that there are a few outliers there with a full ride or something, but I don't think it is common or easy to get, especially with the large class size.
 
Do they only inform us on Wednesdays?
 
I completed my application on 9/17 and I haven't received heads or tails of anything since then. Am I done for? What was the length of time it took from submission to hear back from them? And do they send out a rejection notice?

There are people who were complete in July and August who haven't heard anything yet. It's only been about 6 weeks for you. Relax. Your application was a little bit on the late side, but you are not "done for," assuming you have a competitive application. Interviews are conducted into April.

haha yeah I haven't been given an invite and I was complete in July.

congratz on the acceptance!!

im still waiting for an interview despite having submitted early june. Do you have any special ECs or something? I have similar GPA, higher mcat, and above avg ECs.. just trying to figure out what part of my application is making htem have doubts about inviting me
 
ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got the phone call at 2:30! Wow I am in shock this this my dream school!!!!!! Congrats to everyone else!!

I got the acceptance call this afternoon! And I just interviewed last Wednesday! I'm still in shock.
