2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
New poster!

Do people post when they get accepted to a school on this thread too? I have an interview next week and would like to find a spot where I can check whether they have sent out acceptances after the interview.

Just received an invite per email form Loyola U, MD, Psy.D.
Oh happy day :claps:

I am super excited

Does anyone know if Bowling Green State is done extending invitations for their Clinical Psych Ph.D.? I tried calling them but no answer.

Also, what about University of Minnesota, Twin Cities for their Counseling Psych Ph.D.?

And University of Maryland, College Park for their Counseling Psych Ph.D.?

I know that all of them have extended at least some invites, but does anyone know if there will be any more?

University of Minnesota has 2 counseling psych programs - the CSPP (through the Ed dept) sent out rejection letters via snail mail and made immediate offers, no interviews. Atleast that's what I know and heard.

To those who got invites from GSU- was this just for clinical general, or was it for clinical general, clinical community, and clinical neuropsych?
Yes, this would be great to know. I applied to the Clinical-Neuro program, but haven't heard anything yet. I would love to know form the people who got invites who they POIs were. If you could PM me that would be great.

Does anyone know if WVU Clinical has finished extending invites?? I'm trying not to call/email the program but my will is slowly breaking down...

Sorry this isn't better news, but since they wanted phone interviews to take place "very soon" after the 27th, I think it's likely all their invites have gone out.

I emailed admissions concerning the status of my application, this was the response:

"A small group of applicants has been selected and invited for interviews. The faculty will be offering admissions based on these interviews. We do not know as yet whether we will open the selection process to additional candidates. When we know, we will notify you regarding the department decision. Our process is usually not completed until April 15, but we may notify you before then."

Same here, please. I applied to clinical-neuro and haven't heard anything. If anyone heard from GSU and could PM me their POI, that would be wonderful! Thank you!

If anyone is curious, ASU counseling invites will start to be extended next week. 😳

I didn't recieve an interview invitation today from GSU like some lucky people, and when I contacted the graduate coordinator she told me to check the status of my application by logging in to the GSU website. My application status says No Decision At This Time. Is it safe to say I didn't get in? It's just so hard to give up hope, GSU was my first choice.

Does anyone know if Ferkauf's Clinical Psych (Health Emphasis) Ph.D. is finished sending invites? It appears as if they may have being that invites were received on 1/21;1/25;1/27 for interviews on 2/2; 2/3; 2/8, but with their application deadline being Jan. 15th, I'm curious if anyone knows if they'll have another round.

Panic is setting in hard. Thanks everyone, and congrats to those w/ invites!

FYI, Paula works in clinical psych department, which is separate from GSPP (PsyD)

Sorry for all my questions, but is she a more reliable source than the Admissions manager? Is she someone whom you were speaking to throughout the entire app process? Is it likely that the person I spoke to yesterday would tell me they were still reviewing apps when they really aren't?

GSU was one of my first choices too, and I feel really desperate after some people said they have received an invitation email in the morning...🙁
But when I check my application status, some requirement is incomplete although I sent the required materials more than two months ago, and the lady in the Graduate Services Office said if the the application is not processed by the Graduate Office, it will not be sent to the department for review. And my application status is the same as yours, No Decision At This Time. Can I ask you whether your application status is complete? I can't give up hope too..

Yes, my applications status is complete. I emailed the recruitment coordinator last week about when GSU would be sending invitations, and I recieved an email today saying that my application was complete and has been forwarded on to the department for review. What I don't know is when my app got forwarded. I hope it wasn't just today because I sent in all my application materials well before the deadline. So I'm not sure if this was a generic email or not. The thing is I got really positive feedback from my POI when I was starting my application. He said my interests fit perfectly with his and my research experiences had prepared me well for graduate school, and that he strongly encouraged me to apply to GSU. I was really hoping to get an interview with him.

How are you checking your status for Geogia State? Mine just says submitted and the last email I received was before Christmas saying that they were still processing applications. Should I have gotten an update since then?

I'm not sure but I've given up hope at this point. The person I talked to one the phone (grad admissions) said that if you haven't heard anything by the second week of February then you probably aren't being invited.

I only got a recent update because I contacted the recruitment coordinator. You may check your application status online at
https://webdb.gsu.edu/applicantstatus/?refresh=true. This link will
take you to the “GoSOLAR - Georgia State Online Access to Records”
page. The following information is required in order to view your
records:
FIRST NAME
LAST NAME
DATE OF BIRTH
LAST 4 OF SSN OR PANTHER NUMBER

So I guess I'll throw my info into the mix as well. Thanks to everyone who has posted.

The one interview I've received is from GWU Psy.D. (incidentally, does anyone have insight on their funding situation? I've heard a couple of different things).

Still waiting on Catholic, Loyola U Chicago, Rutgers (PsyD) and PGSP. I talked to Loyola today and the lady there was very helpful. Told me some interviews had been offered but I hadn't been rejected so I could still be considered.

Best of luck everyone!

I just got the schedule for my first interview and it's intimidating! 5 one on one interviews, one group interview, several speeches and tours.... Ack! How am I suppossed to be personable and intelligent for an entire 9 hours?! 😀

I had one interview day that was almost 14 hours long - from 8:15 AM-10 PM including all the presentations, interviews, informal meetings, and social events.

Grad students spend tons of time with their labs, over and above normal 9-5 hours, so I'm guessing they want to get a good sense of who we are as much as they can.

Good luck!

perhaps this has already been posted but i couldn't locate it. any tips (advice, links) for going on these interviews? besides like, rehearsing my life story as related to psychology and telling them what i like about their school? do you guys reads POIs papers and have questions ready? am i going to be asked weirdo google questions like how do i think some worldwide problem should be solved, or try to psychoanalyze myself?

any tips helpful (esp. from people who have recently interviewed)... thanks!!😍

I'm having the same problem. I contacted Graduate Services and the woman who answered said that they are still processing applications so it may be that my application hasn't been forwarded to the department for review. If that is the case, it would mean that my application will be sent to the department AFTER they've already reviewed other applications and extended invitations. GSU is one of my top choices and I don't feel that is fair since all of my materials were submitted before the deadline. I don't know what to next... Email the director of the department???? Ask for a refund????

I posted this yesterday; maybe it will help!

One of the grad students at my school just forwarded me a link to a document with interview tips and questions to ask by Dr. Mitch Prinstein, Director of Clinical Psychology at UNC. He also has more info listed at a website indicated in the document. Take a look if you've been lucky enough to secure an interview, or if you're still hoping for one! It isn't too late yet... http://www.unc.edu/~mjp1970/I%20Just...%20Program.pdf

Good luck! :luck:

I was wondering if anyone had heard anything in the way of interviews from Loyola? I called them last week and they said they'd be emailing about invites Friday (1/28) and Monday (1/31) but I haven't seen anything on GradCafe or here. Any thoughts?

I called the graduate services as well and they told me the same thing. I felt the same..how are they extending interview invites if they havent even looked at my application yet?? Did you apply to the general track? I applied to the neuro track so I was hoping that it was just that they haven't looked at that specific track yet...

Yikes! What school is this?

Just heard back from University of Houston.. The reply was this: "Faculty are currently contacting applicants for interview weekend which is the end of February." I haven't heard yet, but I'm crossing my fingers!

I applied for the community track. I'm trying to remain optimistic but it's quite difficult! 🙁

I received an email from GW Clinical Psychology Ph.D. director today for interview either the 25th of February or 28th of February as well as a phone call from UM counseling psychology's program director. Interview is March 4th.🙂

Hey Guys,

I feel as if I can shed some light on the Georgia State situation since I've interviewed there before and since this will now be the second time I've applied. If you haven't gotten an invite by now, it's likely you are not going to get one. The reason for this is because the graduate school organizes the applications by statistic and then sends them to the dept. Meaning, they are looking at the more favorable applications first. It's sort of a weird setup, I'm not sure if that's how it goes elsewhere, but i've been told by many folks this is how it goes at GSU. It's kind of late but thats because there was a LOT of weather in Atlanta and they weren't able to meet as often (the psych dept that is). So, Sorry if im bursting bubbles for some, but when i called earlier today it sounded as if they'd extended all the interviews they were planning on extending unless a POI makes a huge stink about a specific candidate.

Ahh so it was a mass email then? Looks like I didn't get an interview at GW! Oh well, it overlaps with my current interview dates anyway. Congrats to you!!!

Does anyone have ANY information from Rutgers PsyD? I see on their website that the interview date is 2/28, so I imagine that they will be sending out invites very soon....

DYING TO HEAR! 😱:barf:

AHH I hope we hear soon!! I think last year people heard around the 15th, so we still have awhile to wait 🙁

Well, since the interview is 2/28, I am hoping that they would give applicants at least two weeks notice. That would put notifications at aprox. 2/14...so yeah...you're probably right lol. Happy V Day 😀

When I called Rutgers, they said they weren't sending interview invites out until 2/15. They are my top choice! It just sucks because URI's interviews are on 2/28 too and I have to let them know by the middle of next week. I hate how schools schedule their interviews on the same days!

This is nice to know. The next 14 days will kill me, but at least every day I don't get an email from them I won't lose hope!! :luck:

Just to echo what has been previously said: Interview date is 2/28, Faculty will probably be making invite decisions on 2/14. I'm a 1st year in the program so if anyone has questions you can PM me.
