2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know whether Case Western has finished extending invites? There was one invite listed on this thread, but no word since...

I feel like responding to a few peoples' questions/inquiries.

BC-I heard that the counseling program already extended (all) invited. I know someone interviewing there on Tuesday the 8th.

Lehigh-They sent an e-mail invite yesterday. Though the invitation was worded rather oddly. It referenced the interview as an informational session. How confusing! I am unsure, though, as to whether or not they are done extending invites.

Was Lehigh's a mass email? I was really hoping to get an invite from them.

Congrats on your invite!

Hey guys, I didn't apply to UNM, but I did want to mention that Albuquerque had a major blizzard a few days ago.. So perhaps expect delays.

Would those with the invites from the University of Montana mind PMing me their POI's? I would really appreciate it. Thanks, and congrats!

Anyone else still waiting on Hofstra? I really wanted an invite there. This has been a discouraging week.

I would suggest not counting out UIC just yet. I literally just hung up the phone with them (the grad. admissions coordinator). She said that she is unsure if all invites have been extended, as she has not received the final list from professors yet. It sounded to me as if individual POIs are to call about interviews, however; she stated that she wasn't sure if this had been done entirely. Maybe it has..maybe it hasn't...who knows. But I'm not counting them out yet!

I guess I am still hanging onto the hope that I'll hear from UIC. There hasn't been much news on people having received invites on here or on grad cafe... Did the person who was contacted by there POI receive an invite? Anyone know of invitations?

Also, anybody have information on how competitive it is to get into their clinical PhD? I don't think it ranks in top 15.

I have an etiquette question about withdrawing applications. I received an offer of admission from my first-choice school and would like to accept it. I've withdrawn from my other interviews, in hopes that they'll invite someone off the waitlist, but there are a couple of schools from which I've heard nothing - which I assume means that I'll be rejected. I feel strange withdrawing from schools that I expect to reject me - like, ha, I'm withdrawing before you can reject me! - but I also don't feel comfortable accepting an offer without closing the door on every other possibility. Thoughts on withdrawing from schools that didn't offer an interview so that I can accept an offer of admission?

I still have not heard from the majority of my schools:

Pepperdine PsyD
Hofstra PhD
GWU PsyD
American PhD
Yeshiva PsyD
USF PhD
Suffolk PhD

Are there other people who have not heard anything from these schools yet, either?

If you received an invite on Saturday or late Friday night from Montana, could you pm me your POI please?

Thank you, good luck and congratulations.

Congrats on the acceptance!! I would just accept it and not worry about the schools who haven't contacted you yet. If you get an interview invite, you can just say, sorry, I've already accepted an offer.

anyone hear from teachers college counseling program yet?

Hey guys. Just finished my first interview and thought that I would start contributing to the forum that has kept me entertained so much during the waiting process.

Virginia Commonwealth University - Interviewed, email and phone call notified on 1-19
Auburn - Rejected, email notified on 1-20
University of Louisville - Rejected, email notified on 1-21
University of Vermont - Rejected, letter notified on 2-5

Still waiting to hear from a bunch of my schools, specifically University of Tennessee - Knoxville. Has anyone heard anything from them?

I agree. If you are really feeing the need to be proactive, just send a simple email stating that you don't know if you are still being considered, but you have accepted an offer to a different program.

You never know who you will be working with in the future, and don't want to come off as pompous.

I know Suffolk has already sent out invites and wait-lists. I would assume rejections are soon to follow. USF also sent out invites via mass email this past week but I've seen no news of either wait-lists or rejections for them yet.

I don't know much about the others... Sorry! I hope you hear good news soon. :xf:

Sorry to be the (potential) bearer of bad news, but I'm pretty sure the clinical program at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville has extended all of their invites to interview. It looks like they chose 31 applicants to interview in person on 2-25, and I don't think they have done multiple interview dates in the past.

I'm not sure about their counseling or experimental programs, though...

I believe its around the general 3% acceptance rate. I'm from Chicago, and it was very important for me to stay here, but my mentor warned me that Chicago is one of the most competitive cities in the country. It's actually THE most difficult city to place in for internships.

They sent out invites a few days ago and said if you didn't get an invite then that you are probably being recommended for the masters in ed. program, waitlisted or I guess rejected. I was a bit confused and sad that I wasn't on the invite email/list so I might have the last part of this mixed up. PM if you want anything clarified or you can call TC counseling. Best of luck!

The first page says that Pepperdine was sent. I'm not sure if they are done sending out invites, but I know that they interview until the end of Feb.

I don't know if Yeshiva is done but they did extend invites. Suffolk from what others has said already extended their invites.

Is anyone else tired of waiting? I'm slowly getting impatient. I have an interview tomorrow but my top choice school hasn't extended invites yet. They said they hope to do so by the end of the week. THis is going to be a very loooong week!

+1

Very tired. My top choice, Rutgers PsyD, isn't extending invites until the following week. Ugh...

I've immersed myself in coursework to pass the time and to channel my nervous energy into something productive. It's been somewhat helpful. Also, spending a lot of time with friends/boyfriend as a distraction.

How long after an interview do schools tell you whether or not you got in? Does this vary by school? I know they have to tell you so you can decide by April 15th - but do most schools wait that long?

Thank you to jexa and psychphd4me for the advice. I certainly don't want to come across as pompous, but I'm ready to have the whole process over and want all the Ts crossed, so to speak. I think I'll contact Graduate School Admissions (not the psych department) and frame it that I'm accepting another offer - that feels less obnoxious than "withdrawing" my application. Thanks again!

In my experience, a week or two, if you get accepted/waitlisted. Some notify re: rejections at the same time but others wait until close to April 1.

In my experience, programs aren't offended by an applicant withdrawing their application. Some are even grateful for advance notification, as it keeps them from inviting, accepting, or waitlisting people who know they will not come.

Congrats on the acceptance! 😀

I'm also really curious about NYU's Counseling Psychology PhD interview invites. Can anyone here confirm that they are finished sending out invites and/or that they have even sent them out? I keep getting conflicting information.

Me tooo.. I havent heard anything at all from any universities that I applied (all are Psy.D programs)... Wright State, CWPost, Yeshiva, Spalding, Florida Tech 🙁

Wright State have already begun to send invites.. do any one know how many days usually they take to send out all invites?? other universities havent started as yet.. aaarggghhh!!! this is so annoying....😡

Has anyone heard from TC Columbia's Clinical Psych program?

What is everyones opinions on contacting POI about where they are in application status? Obviously, if you're the POIs first choice it is not going to make or break or you. However, if you're on the waitlist maybe it can affirm your interest and fit with that professor?

I presume you mean after you've already interviewed? How long has it been since the interview? And do you know for certain that you're on a waitlist?

I went through this process twice. During both application cycles I ended up on wait lists, and I eventually ended up contacting programs both times to check my status. The first time, I waited closer to the April 15th notification date before I contacted them. They notified me that it was in my best interests to accept a position elsewhere (too bad I didn't have one to accept!), which I was sort of expecting anyway after that cursed interview. I was amazed they even wait listed me after the entire day was spent with professors trying to talk me out of going there.

The second time, I was a bit antsier and actually contacted them a helluva lot sooner. I sent them a short & sweet email, simply indicating that I wanted to confirm my interest in their program if a position became available and inquiring if they could inform me as to which wait list I had been assigned to (as at the time they had 2 wait lists before they decided to jumble it all up). The DCT send me an email with very positive feedback, and I received an offer maybe 1-2 weeks later.

G'luck!

How long after an interview do you hear a response? Days? Weeks?

I think it depends on if the school. I've had one place I interviewed offer me a spot after only 3 days, but another that I still haven't heard from even though the interview was 2 weeks ago (though they told us we wouldn't hear for a while). Usually they give you some sort of idea as to how long it should take at the interview. If they don't, I would ask. Hope that helps.

BTW, Congratulations! And, I hope it didn't come across as I was saying you sounded pompous, because you didn't.

How exciting that this process which seemed so long is coming to an end for some. Only 5 more years until we have to do this all again!

Just called UMass Boston and they have extended all interview invites. If you haven't heard from them, you can cross them off your list.🙁

Anyone else still waiting on Hofstra? I really wanted an invite there. This has been a discouraging week.

I'm still waiting too. I think you have to make sure your application gets processed, though...seems like the web-based applications are getting stuck in graduate admissions. Might want to call and make sure everything is in place.

On the waitlist on the UM. Still waiting but i bet there is little possibility to get accepted. : (
Good luck to interview tomorrow.

Has anyone else heard from Univ. of Denver (Clinical Psy.D)? They said they're not done reviewing apps (I talked to them on Friday), but I don't think I've seen anyone else post about interview invites since those initial posts a couple weeks ago..

I called Lehigh's counseling program today, the woman (office secretary?) was vague. She said that they have sent out invites, and she is not sure whether or not they will be sending out anymore. I think it is safe to say that I can cross them off of my list...

Still dying to hear from Hofstra PhD! Anybody heard from U of Miami PhD counseling?

I just called BC and was told that all interview invites have been extended. 👎

That's such a bummer. Oh well. I'll cross them off of my list too and wait for the others to call 🙄
