2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I got an email today from U Miami Ohio saying this:

"Thank you for your interest in Graduate School at Miami University! We received your online application, so you are now on your way!"

and some other stuff... but what the HECK? That application was due on December 1. It is now 2/9.

Did anyone else get this?

I sure did. I was quite puzzled.

I got an odd email like that from a different school and then two days later I got an interview invite from them. :xf::luck:

Was this for Clinical? Who did you talk to? Cinci was my first choice too, and one of two school's I was still waiting to hear from.

Hi,
I received a personal e-mail from my POI. She said the school has extended all their invites so it doesn't sound like it was just her. It sounds like Cincy is done for this year.

Hi all,

I just received an interview invite from Adelphi for their clinical Ph.D. program. It was via mass email from the admissions chair. 🙂

I'm interviewing at Wright in March, not sure if there were other dates offered or if they are done yet

CWPost is killing me, they are one of my top choices and I JUST got a hold of them after three weeks of trying to find out if my application was complete, I emailed them to find out when invites might be going out but haven't heard, will post if I do though

I havent heard from any universities as yet 🙁...

I don't know anything about CW Post, but I do know that LaSalle sent out an e-mail telling me that my application is complete. The interview days are 3/14 and 3/18 if that helps.

thank you for this! I hate waiting, just want to hear and get it over with

on another note, does anyone know if cwpost clinical psyd is done sending out invites? still had hopes of hearing from them

how about lasalle?

I just called IUP PsyD. Secretary told me that they have tentatively picked out who they will invite for interview, and faculty is meeting tomorrow to make final decisions. She said applicants will be offered 6 interview days and pick one. Convinient! I hope I get a call!

I've been waiting on Widener as well! Any luck today?

I didn't see anything on the list but I noticed someone posted that all invites for U of Cincinnati have been extended. 🙁 That leaves me with one school left to ponder over and I have not heard or seen anything yet. Has anyone heard anything about Jackson State's Clinical PhD. program?

I did contact Dr Williams at Jackson State and he told me last week that they would have responses out within this week or early next, hope that helps a little bit.

I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give.

I had an interview at one of my first-choice schools (School A) two weeks ago, and at the interview they said they'd be making admissions decisions right away but that it might take a couple of weeks to get the final approval they need to contact people.

Then, my POI spontaneously emailed me a couple of days ago saying they would be making decisions very soon and I should expect to hear in the next few weeks...which is a much longer time-frame than they said at the interview day.

Tonight I am leaving for an interview across the country (School B), followed by a different interview back on my side of the country on Sunday/Monday (School C), so this is going to be an extremely overwhelming and stressful weekend with zero sleep. I know I would definitely choose School A over School B, so I was hoping I would know about School A in time to cancel my interview tomorrow and cancel my trip if I get in to School A. That way, I'd be able to be better rested and do a better job at my interview at School C. Is it okay to call School A today and ask if they know when they might be making decisions, just in case? Or do I need to suck it up and just go to School B even though the travel will be miserable and School A might have already made decisions? Basically, how annoying would it be for me to call and ask School A?

Sorry for the longest question ever...but advice is really appreciated!
I would go to School B. You haven't been accepted into School A - they would let you know if that decision has been made - so until then, you need to pursue all other options. And like so many people have said before, you may have a totally different impression about a school after having visited it. So you have little to lose by going to School B. Good luck!

Awesome! Thanks for the info, I was starting to wonder about them. Good luck :luck:

Anyone hear from Fairleigh Dickinson yet??

It's been a quiet app season for me...+pissed+

:luck:

I am waiting on them too and have not heard anything. Someone posted here on Jan 31st (I think) that they called the secretary at FDU and she said invites would be sent out 1.5-2 weeks before the interview dates (Feb 26th and 27th). So, probably next week but maybe as early as tomorrow? I hope this helps, good luck to you!

Cannot even describe how fast my heart rate went up when I saw they sent out more interview invites! Widener is pretty much my end all be all school, so I feel your anxiety.

I called them yesterday and was told they are still considering candidates for interviews and will have two more interview days, obviously that one at the end of Feb and I'll assume one in early March. Clearly they're done sending out invites for Feb so, here's to March!!:xf::scared:

Psychlearner,

It does, thanks! I wasn't sure if I had just missed it somewhere, this thread is rather long!

Just got my first invite!!!!

Email from program chair at Florida Tech this morning. Interview is 2/25 with social stuff the night of the 24th and the 25th.

So excited!!!!! 😀

teebee, that's great news! Congrats!! 😀 What do you think you did differently this year than last year when applying? How did you make your app stronger? Thanks!!

Thank you 🙂 Well, my GRE and GPA are the same as last year. My GPA is high and my GRE is average. I was in undergrad when I applied last year, and I have 2 research assistant jobs now, 1 full time and 1 part time. In undergrad I had a lot of research experience and an independent thesis, but I definitely think this extra research experience has made the difference. My personal statements were also more defined. Two of my LORs were the same as last year, and the new one from my current supervisor probably helped.

So taking the year off to work as a research assistant full time seems like it was the major improvement on my application. If you want to discuss further please feel free to PM me!

Any word on Memphis yet? I've seen a few posts on gradcafe, but nothing definitive.

A friend of mine is interviewing there in a couple weeks....

Just saw SUNY Albany on gradcafe 🙁

I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give.

i'm in the same predicament, but I would never contact and ask if I was accepted, to me, that's not only bad karma but pushy. I'd rather wait it out and suffer through my 2 back to back interviews, that I'm not really interested in yet. Although, I'm keeping out hope that once I visit- I may love them too.

Can I ask you all something - how much are you spending on interviews? I saw a med school thread on this topic but didn't want to start one here. I am trying not to go into debt here, but the plane tickets are so expensive. And rooms, rentals, food, etc. *phew I sure hope this is worth it! :luck::xf:

So apparently my undergrad institution messed up in sending out my transcripts to LaSalle University. I ordered them back in December and LaSalle did not receive them, so I had to go in and order another copy today because I didn't find out about it until last night. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I'm nervous I won't be considered since my application was not complete by the February 1st deadline, but this was something that was out of my hands completely. 😕

Over my academic career I've attended 4 universities, so I had a lot of transcripts flying across the country...and I knew there were going to be some missing transcript issues...and there were...3 of them.

One school emailed me and used the "unofficial" copy I had sent in with my packet while we waited for the official one to be resent from the school. They forwarded my application to the graduate committee using the copy...no problemo!

The other two schools were pretty much, "Too bad, so sad for you" and my application was not considered.

Bottom line: No need to worry about it, just ask them 😀

AB🙂

I called and left a message asking them to call me back to let me know what the status of my application would be. So now it's more waiting until I hear back from them! Haha

What do you guys suggest I wear to a faculty dinner before interview day? Keep in mind I'll be going straight from a 4.5hr bus ride to this dinner. Also, I'm a woman. 😱

Was curious if anyone has heard recently from Widener, PGSP or Pacific University. I have already hear back from and have and interview with Univ. of Denver but am getting high blood pressure from anticipating invitations or rejection letters. :help:

Thanks for any info and good luck to everybody!

Congrats your your Denver interview. I don't know about Widener or Pacific but PGSP's interview dates are Jan28-29 & Feb 11-12. Good luck!

I am interviewing for Albany's clinical program this weekend. :/

Oops I meant for their Counseling program... that just went up. For some reason, all the counseling programs are a bit slower to invite.

PS Good luck! :luck: Thankfully I have none this weekend & can relax, but have a very stress-filled interview weekend the next week.

There's a whole interview thread discussing clothing on here already, but thought I'd give you some input anyways. Almost everyone at the dinner I went to was wearing jeans and a nice sweater/top, and sounds like that is the standard if it is a grad student dinner. But if faculty are invited, I'd dress up a little more. Maybe with dressy yet casual khakis or pants. And if on a busride, maybe wear something comfy that can be dressed up quickly with a cardigan, jewelry, shoes, etc.

Apparently many commented on that thread about the horrors of being OVER dressed - when with just the grad students but I didn't see anyone out of sorts at our dinner. Although interview day, thats another story. Everyone was dressed in suits, except one poor unfortunate soul who missed the memo. 😱

i know counseling programs are running slower, but has anyone heard from teachers college columbia u or loyola university counseling. i feel like they've been unusually quiet

Has anyone heard anything from JMU? I just got an email saying that we should know by the end of Tuesday if we've received an invite, but I was wondering if anyone had already received one..

TC sent out invites about a week ago. Loyola Chicago? They already sent out Invites. As for another Loyola, I am not sure.

What about Seton Hall's counseling program. Anyone hear any word from them? I hate waiting and just want to be accepted somewhere already!!!!🙁

Officially waitlisted for an interview at Pacific University (Oregon) 🙁

At least I know they didn't lose my application 😳

I received an email today from the assitant director of graduate and professional programs. They say that the interview dates are on March 4th and 5th and that invitations can be extended up until the day before the interviews. That would be a little challenging for me however seeing as I live on the opposite side of the country 🙂

Oh well!

Anyone going to interviews at either Loyola MD PsyD next Friday or Immaculata PsyD next Wednesday?

Still waiting on Widener, Rutgers, and La Salle. My hopes are diminishing about the first two though 🙁

Hi! I am new to these forums. I received an interview invite this past week from UMKC's clinical program.

Hi everyone!

Thus far, I have received interviews from: SHSU Clinical, U of Colorado-Denver Clinical Health, U of North Carolina-Charlotte, Texas Tech Counseling, U of Misourri-Kansas City Clinical, and U of Iowa Counseling.

I have received rejections from: U of Nebraska and U of Kansas

I am most anxious to hear from Duke, George Mason U, Viginia Commonwealth, and U of Miami Counseling- Any word on these??

I think Duke conducted interviews last week.

I saw on Gradcafe that two people received rejections from OSU (Ohio State) on the website--where? I looked under the application status program, and it says my application is still in review. O_O

Mine is still in review too, and I still haven't heard anything from them...
